Lots of hate here. Obviously one man cannot be representative of an entire martial art, and obviously the best martial artists in the world have better things to do than be on shows like this. But that doesn't mean this can't be both interesting and informative.
what i am saying is there is no scaling (they compare the 2 as if they were equal)and if you can't understand that a 215 lb man throws a heavier punch then a 150 lb man then there's no helping you
To me, a kick is an attack using any part of the leg below the knee (shin, instep, heel, ball of foot). A Muay Thai knee strike is not a kick in my view. A better measure of Muay Thai's kicking power is a kick to the rips or quads, kicks that Muay Thai guys are known for. In legit kicking, edge goes to TKD. I am no martial artist, just my opinion, so please correct me if I am wrong in my view.
hmm, first of all, don't go taking fight science too seriously. as far as their testing goes, many scientists, martial artists, and viewers have criticized how they have conducted these tests.
one of the criticisms was the size of the punchers. one physicist suggested including a weight to force ratio.
another was the selection of martial arts being biased towards asian and american arts and ignoring the european ones...
...but the biggest fault, in my opinion, is that they highlight signature kicks in each style that mislead the audience by encouraging stereotypes. for example, most of the kicks shown here, will be taught by EACH art. muah thai will teach back kicks, and karate will teach knees. not only are they selecting different sized people, but judging kicks that aren't meant to be compared to each other.
Love this show. However, with this episode I see some glaring issues. First off, the punch test was not fair. The biggest guy was the boxer and the smallest guy was the kung fu artist. Naturally the bigger you are, the harder you will punch. Would have been more accurate if all the fighters were similar height and weight. Second, the kicking test. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I don't consider a knee strike to be a kick. Two different attacks in my opinion.
@AllenM23 true but knee is in the leg.. lol.. but i dont know.. kick to me is different than knee.. like muay thay and taikuando!! you know what im saying?
@wngo70 I believe you missunderstood part of it... these guys are some of the best at what they do, size is just a fraction of the art. as seen with the ninja's death blow. im a very logical person aswell, but in such a real world irrelavant entertaining test as this, i think they did better by letting some of those variables slide and favored technique
even still. measurement of the damage is different with those variables because the amount of power would vary among size. the amount of damage caused by a kick or a punch should be measured by two of same physique at least. otherwise it's just common physicx that a bigger person will hit harder.
Exactly what I was discussing with my instructor. Relative mass and build for each style would be the best way to dictate superiority, if there is such a thing. Every fight is different but in a controlled setting one might get a general idea of which style or technique is most effective for a particular situation.
When a person does the gyaku seiken sukui(reverse punch) the koshi(hip) will rotate and amplify the force of impact the shoulders and arms work with this waza(technique) not by themselves, in the video the karateka did not rotate his koshi at all. That would lessen the force that could be generated since the kihon(foundation/basics) was not correct the force was less. Osu
i totally agree the show is so BULLSHIT saying that they are the best in the arts, my ass these are nobodies. u can take any traditional kyokushin practitioner and traditional i mean those years of hard body/bare knuckle conditioning not these meat heads and they can deliver a way more powerful punch
@PureBreadFighter622 Obiviously they wouldnt be able to find the strongest and fastest even people that arent pro can be its just an estimation..that small gap will probley always be there
Yeah me too!! I wanna learn how to control my body and unleash a fury of dragon punches like in STREET FIGHTER!!And...I wanna look really good in a bath robe while fighting my girlfriends parents!!Haha!!
Ng should make a game from what they have shown on this show no life like in mortal kombat but instead right hits right kill one stab can be the end and you can train ur warrior to have skills health and what kind of fighting art in short words the ultimate real effect real time fighting game all realno magicpowers and have a replay after that should show the movment and damage done by body or weapon like how they show the muscles or the inside like ribs muscles for example thats all
there is more to a knock-out, namely the person being hit. I have hit some men hard enough to break bones in both their face an my hand, they stayed up but woozy. A few others i have hit somewhat softer and dropped them.
Thats simply because of the person. Not everyone is a conditioned Martial Artist, now are they? The average joe would take one hit with like, say 100lb or so of force, and be knocked out.
@DeishanWright that was my point, they keep saying whether or not it would knock out "a person." There is a wide variety of training and ability among people, toughness is a huge part.
Hate to say it but their experiment is flawed. They need to compare different martial artists within the same style to get real data. Otherwise it could just be that perticular one fighter who's putting out the outstanding data and not the style, which is what they're trying to explore.
I agree. This was entertaining but it was bad as a "judging" experiment. Of corse the big guy is going to hit harder that the little KungFu guy. He has more weight to throw around. Plus that old "breaking bricks" thing is retarded. Why is there space between the bricks? So there is leverage. Try stacking those things without space between them...you would have broken arms and skulls. I used to do that stuff at my dojo....its not really impressive.
yep also don't u remember they use "special" wooden boards right i remember they had that my dojo. about the bricks breaking if you put enough force on the top couple layer the force from the top will break the bottom that is why break bricks need to be accurate and precise
Y Tia? IU know thats spelled wrong just not know hows its spelled. But isn't that modern day MMA in this country or is there a difference? Whatever the sport is at 13 mins is in Thialand
ive been in enough fights ive done all but drunken boxing and the ninjas ways in full, i havnt lost too many fights but now i have seen why i have lost the few fights i have lost.
Really Good!! This is a demystification of what goes on in martial arts.
