It is easy to determine bad meat on the carcass once it is cleaned out. If the intestines were broken inside it will need to be washed out with water. Don't butcher it on the back of a pickup truck. Hang the deer up by the legs. If it is bad clotted meat cut it out. Even with deer that were hit pretty hard, I have always gotten more than 50% of the meat.

Another recipe is to make a curry out of it. Indians can take the strangest meat and make a thick curried spicy gravy, which drowns out all the gamey taste. Cut it in small pieces so it won't be so tough, and add some hot pepper into it and serve it over rice, with naans and chutney, and Chana masala!
