Shooting test cards is nice and all but how about some REAL test footage? Not even 90 seconds?!?! C'mon Videomaker!! Love the camera, disappointed in your test footage.
If Canon can figure out how to offer a DSLR with HDSDI out, they might be able to keep up with the FS100 and AF100. As it is, H264 is just not ready for serious shooters. Check out the Zacuto great camera shootout 2011. They test everything from the Arri Alexa to the Red MX and F3 to several Canons and a Nikon D7000. The results speak for themselves. I'd certainly never shoot a paying gig on a DSLR - even with CP 2's
It's a magnificent camera - I have the PMW-F3, and regularly record to a KiPro Mini on CF cards. (4:2:2 sampling) - very nice. Just sent the purchase order in for the S-Log update, dual HDSDI 4:4:4 option. From early tests, this makes the F3 nearly as good as a Red MX for half the price. Some say equal, but I'm not sure. It certainly looks quite good.
What about color correcting? Most HD footage looks great if lit well, but falls apart in post. GH2's 8-bit 4:2:0 AVCHD.bites big time if you try to push it in post with any color correction or gamma boost. Gets all splotchy. I'd like to see how this camera handles green screen shots and some medium color grading, both of which are must-haves for today's shoots. That'll tell me if it's worth $6k or $600.
@pbohush If you are capturing footage from a Direct Capture Device with this camera such as a NanoFlash through HDMI, you can record a 4:2:2 color subsample.
What about a rolling shutter test and shooting at varied DB to check for lighting capability at low lux. Interesting for for 6k I would seriously look else where for now unless Sony convinces me that this cam is going to perform along with HPX 370 or PMW EX3 PMW F3 etc Anyone needing a wide performace capability with a cam will have to really do some research on this. I like this concept and shape
Does anyone have any tips on how to get that kind of image from 0:16-0:21. I've been trying for a long time to get my videos to have that kind of style.
I realize that you wont get that exact image without spending $6000 dollars for a camera like this, and that it will depend upon the situation you are filming in. i just want to know what frame rate was used etc...
@ipodtouchrocks They used a slider, basically the camera is mounted on tracks and slid towards the right. This gives it a smooth scrolling appearance.. there are tons of diy on youtube.
@ipodtouchrocks It's a dolly shot... you mount the tripod on a plate which is then placed on rails; you can then achieve really smooth motion in any direction you place the rails (in this case the camera moves sideways). JogBird mentioned 'slider' which is a similar device where the rails go on top of the tripod. It's kind of presumptuous to assume they used a slider, as they've been widely adapted by amateurs online, but not really by professionals.
Do you know what frame rate and resolution the smooth slow motion record mode records at? Looks good quality from the video clip, would be great if its better quality and/or frame rate than the Z5's smooth slow record mode
@MGVProductionsTV The frame rate is 120 fps, and the resolution I believe is 1080i. It records in 5 second bursts to memory, and after buffering, writes the file for playback. Hope that helps!
@northernrob99 It was still processing I guess? It says your comment was from 1 second ago but I'm able to view it in 1080p. You should too. Rewatch it and it should be in 1080.

what song is this?
Dennycrumbubble 11 months ago
@Dennycrumbubble The song is a live recording of James Blackshaw at the WFMU. You can find his music free on the Free Music Archive website

$6,000 isn't a bad price for what you get, but it's still 2-6 times as much as you'll pay for a DSLR; it's not a DSLR killer.

I really like how even with the aperture settings high the image sensors still create crisp blacks and the colors pop.
