@acouragefann true it appealed to the adults in the same way as bugs bunny and spongebob do. I know I was pasted to every Muppet Show that came on when I was a kid though. I think shows like this are made popular by kids, but made legendary by the adults

@sarahp43085 Absolutely Metallica, first I'm not a rabid fan of Metallica, there are a few songs of theirs I totally love but not their whole catalog. One song of theirs that is probably one of their better covers in "Whiskey In The Jar" an old Irish drinking song that may have roots back as far as the 17th century. Give it a listen then come back to this song and imagine it with some teeth.

You're wrong. At the very least, it wasn't geared towards children. More like what would be called a "family show" in that children don't get most of the more risqué stuff anyway, while the adults don't mind the more innocent segments. FYI, one of the two muppet show pilot episodes was called "sex and violence".
