  • Good job!

  • Honestly, I can't play this on my G101 without the Staccato tab being on. Gets too muddy for my taste.

Nice Piano Bass too. I can't afford one, so Im stuck using the black and grey keys for my bass lines. Just isn't the same.

  • wrong !!!!!!!!!! my god.............

  • I have two questions on the Lowrey/Gibson G101 organ:

    1. On the left hand side of the keyboard, it had black keys with white smaller keys, then grey keys with smaller white keys, then the keys were the regular configuration (white keys with black smaller keys). Any reason?

    2. Was this the type of organ that Ray Manzarek played on The Doors' only Ed Sullivan appearance? It looked different than the VOX organs he usually played.

  • my god........... WROOONG

  • Trying to get my hands on a piano bass ASAP. What's one usually cost? I don't have any particular model in mind, but I'm shooting for the cheapest possible. Having a real hard time finding one ANYWHERE. Can anyone help?

  • @CrazeeTori9 : Check on ebay, I regularly see them for selll around 600-800 depend of the condition

  • Awesome jam dude! I was actually going to buy a Kalamazoo, but I decided to get the Jaguar. I honestly think the gibson gave a good live version of Light My Fire. :D

  • This is pretty good! But, if you don't mind telling, where did you get this organ? Do you know where someone else could find one/how much it would cost?

  • @Dmagnetic17 There are few times for sale on ebay for around $ 800-2000 depending on the state. Be vigilant.

  • awwww i wanted to hear more!

  • how much did the gibson run ya?

  • DOORS BEST BAND EVER :D

  • Hi, im interested in buying a combo organ, and im pretty limited on a budget, but im not sure as where to start in finding a make or model that will give me the vintage tone, would you happen to know of any?

  • @stuckinthepast or of any keyboards that would be able to emulate the sound of a combo organ

  • Great! Both Manzarek's keyboards and a perfect solo! =)

    But...

Light My Fire was played on a Vox Continental, wasn't it?

  • @andrewcgs Yes it was a Vox Continental on the official Album, but the Gibson g101 organ was used by for about 80% of all the concert of the doors

  • @RayManzarek28

    I know ;) However, a beautiful exhibition =)

  • wow nice!

  • are you ray ?

  • omg!!!!! thats on the MONEY!!! gave me chills!!

  • where's the rest of it? i was getting excited!

  • my digital camera can record only a few minutes :( when ill get another one ill recorded it entirely :)

  • @RayManzarek28 Please do!!!!!!!! Want to hear the rest so bad I can hardly stand it!!!

  • Nice man! GREAT set of keyboards there! I'm JEALOUS!!

  • NICE!

  • Fantastic performance! Ever since ten years ago when I started trying to [feed the illusion that I can] play keyboards, I've had a good deal of respect for the discipline needed to play bass lines in the left hand and chords/melodies/solos with the right.

I love those instruments, but I may only ever use synthesizers to simulate/substitute the organ and piano bass.

  • Right man! The strain and practice it takes on your brain to learn left and right hands takes a LOT of work!

  • ma dai sbagliataaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Enjoyed your playing! I just unearthed a Gibson G101 in great condition! Glad to see one being used. The one I have has been in the house for decades. It was my brother's who was in a band back in the day.

  • molto bravo, complimenti!

  • nice video, does anyone know which e-piano was used in riders of the storm ?

  • It was for sure A Wurlitzer 200a, i have both Rhodes and Wurlitzer and for the mid note, both of em sound similar, but when you listen the solo, the higher note is clearly the Wurly metalic sound

  • Hey man, you should make the entire version, not end it like this, you,re playing is very good !

  • It's pretty well documented that it was a Fender Rhodes. They did use a Wurly on Queen of the Highway though.

  • Nah it was a Fender Rhodes Piano, Ray says it on a Vid here called "Ray Manzarek Talks" By DoorsFanFabi, When he was about to play it he said "Not easy to play on a Vox Continental!"

  • I can vouch for both Peacefrog35 and RayManzarekGod. It was for sure a Fender Rhodes Piano. But the Wurly is one epic keyboard though!

  • @RayManzarek28 Are you sure? I think thaht it's a Rhodes, Manzarek had never play on a wurlitzer

  • @RayManzarek28 He used it on Queen of the Highway, but it's wel documented that Riders ot Storm was a Rhodes.

  • Sounds very good. Love your playing and keyboards.

  • man I love this tune, I love the doors, and I love the g101. the connie was great too. great playing, keep up the good work!

  • Great playing!! you're very lucky for having the original gear!!

  • Thx a lot, it took years to search and get those beast, rare to find , specially here in Canada :P

  • Awesome playing! Though the tabs need to be changed on this tune. Run all white tabs down only, with mixture and brilliance. That's Manzarek's setting.

  • Yeah but it's nice to hear another sound out of the G 101, some should demonstrate the harpsichord and piano settings too, not JUST Doors stuff

  • Actually he didn't have the brilliance on full very often...hardly ever. He would use it on Whisy Bar and on Love Me Two Times. If you look at Ed Sullivan Light My Fire Performance, you can see all yellow all white tabs and Mixture down.

  • Wow,learn something new everyday. Though I am told Ray switched to the G-101 not long before Sullivan in '67 and was experimenting with it still. Then again, Ray never played the same tune exactly the same way everytime. I had all ways thought he had some weird setting on the Vox drawbars, though in an interview years back he ran them all the way out except for the two center ones pushed in just slightly. Love your playing man! Nice to know your into the vintage stuff! TC, Ray

  • Hey Ray, thank you for the compliments. I am only a beginner though. Yes, Ray played (and when he ever plays one now) a Vox, pulls the drawbars out all the way.

On the Gibson, if you only use the white tabs, the sound is very thin...he almost always had all voice tabs down and mixture... I have most of the live CDs and the sound is always very full.

Again thanks for your kind words. Sounds as though we have similar taste in music. Feel free to keep in touch!

  • Certainly will. By the way, I just replaced all the caps in the filter supply. Should you ever need replacements on yours, I'll point you in the right direction as the original style dual gang caps are no longer avail. That irritating hum is history.

  • Excellent.. thanks for the information. Great! Hey.. you should post yours up. I'd love to see some pics of it!. I can't get enough of these old beasts!

  • awesome

  • Balèze respect .

  • you're wrong man...

  • ?? :P

  • no baby......good error...

  • I tried it in My Leslie 825 to, interesting sound. I play all my organ in a Peavy KB100 and my Piano Bass in a Rhodes Sattellite (slave unit) sound pretty close to the Bassman. Ill try to add more samples

  • ive got a G101 as well, i run it thru a 145 leslie with a preamp! great rig man.

  • what are you going to do more vidoes with the gibson g 101

  • exelent

  • C'est "Gonz'" du forum A Crystal Ship. Nice keyboard!
