This is what hip hop was - there's nothing like this now... Those that saw the birth if hip hop, electro, breakdance etc understand passion - those were the days.
I was there at the time of the release of this track, I lived life with this album as the soundtrack for a while. We had quite a few laughs, and this album was a great soundtrack to our lives at the time. We ran tings in our hood. UK hip hop, the sharp side of the cuttin edge my friends.
i have still the whole lyrics in my head and only now i can understand this because im german and with 14 years old i couldnt know the sense of the lyrics looool
Absolute classic of a TUNE!...These were the days of UK Hip Hop at its BEST..fuck all these dicks these days who think Task Force, Mud Fam are quality...they WILL NEVER have ANYTHING on late 80s - early 90s UK shit! NEVER!! ALL got that stupid twang bullshit wack shit goin on..haha lame arse PRICKS!! YA WACK!!!
er...where have you been mate?? Gunshot, london posse, caveman, silver bullet, overload-X, blade..no diss on Hijack, but there were plenty of 'other' hardcore uk hip-hop groups around the same time...check out some of my suggestions^
yeah, man i know u wasnt slagging em off, its just that u said "Hijack, uk`s first and only hardcore rap crew" when they werent, but your right, alot of todays MC's can take a leaf outta the ol' skool book...
Although i will take a bit of grime, over the american crap at the moment, anyday of the week ;)
@aphex187 I think maybe he means the sample source? Iron Butterfly were a American heavy rock group from the (I think) late 60's-early seventies...I think Nas used that "Inna-Gadda-Davida" record on something he did, I couldn't tell you what though, 'cause I stopped buying Nas' stuff after "It Was Written"....
@aphex187 it's wicked when you find like-minded people on youtube. I really buzz off it, instead of all these contentious wankers who just want to argue all the time! Anyway, glad I could jog your memory. All the best!
hijack??? the fucking boy!!! loved all the album...timeless and this tune just fuckin kills...you know say old school uk hip hop rocked...check hard/son of noise gunshot, and silver bullet... ;)
These men seem to be crosses between Chuck D vocally and Kool Moe Dee lyrically... now THAT makes for an unforgettably awesome combination. And it definitely makes these emcees a HELL of a lot of fun to listen to. Not to mention the way they work and feed off of each other, and make their individual rhymes come together so coherently. I KNEW I was in for a treat when I began to research British hip-hop, but I had absolutely NO idea that the quality would be THIS high!
Oh... wow! I had absolutely no idea! It is an absolute pleasure to speak to you. You and the rest of this group created some absolutely unforgettable classics... it's just such a shame that none of you are regularly acknowledged or appreciated by most other hip-hop fans, be they passersby or loyal, faithful and dedicated. Sorry about the troubles you and your fellow members have faced over the years. I'm just glad you all managed to pull through.
Also, IMHO, this song has the single greatest interpolation of "In A Gadda Da Vida" that I've ever heard on a hip-hop record. It's eargasmic just to listen to this incredible beat! I usually keep it on repeat when I'm uploading videos here to YouTube. Usually eliminates a LOT of my stress... but good rap music always tends to have an ethereal effect on my moods. Much like tracks by Eri Kawai or Ritsuko Okazaki (if you don't know who they are, feel free to check them out... you won't regret it).
everytime i hear my hair stands bring back hip hop none of this r+b rap and bullshit................ been down since day one and still banging old school hip hop
if im correct this album was dropped on ice t's label syndicate, when it came out there was nuff of a buzz about it and after all this time it still does the job..
