  • Why not just build a small robot, to only go around the track?

  • has anyone else noticed that the robots have eyes. and they blink. does anyone else find that creepy?

  • OMG!!!!!!

In the audience front row, some of the fasces are real people!

  • GREAT COMPETITION!! does removing the opponent's trackball from the overpass consider a fault?

  • @samuelsn93 Nope - while the robot at 2:58 may be too big for the actual rules, it was shown legally removing an opponent's trackball.

  • @samuelsn93 no, but crossing the lane divider to do so as shown is illegal.

  • QUANTUM SAMURAI 1601 !!!!!

  • team 3219

  • TEAM 300

  • gooo team 2619

  • Good times ^_^ Yey 1712!

  • At 2:24 it says that robots can move track balls around the field by bumping or hurting them!!! how the hell do you hurt a ball?

  • he said "herding", not hurting.

  • that's what i thought at first, but it's bumping or herding them, lol

  • hehe you guys are so new im from 88

oh snap only double digits i bet that blows your mind

you guys are in the hundreds...ha...ha

  • I Bet You Feel So Proud Of Yourself... :D

  • i went to the fall classic...597!!

  • 330 :-)

  • yeah FIRST! :) I'm from 1923. I've been going to FIRST events since I was 3 months old, and I LOVE IT!

  • Team 1612...CNC machinist here =]

This was my first year on my schools robotics team...I loved it =]

Too bad this year I'm a senior and it's my last year =/

  • And as for you, aliensandufos, I think the reason people like you comment negatively about things like this is because you're just too thick skulled and just plain stupid to understand what some people can do.

    Robots are manning space travel.

Robots make the items you use everyday.

Robots make the things we ever will use.

And it's amazing how even middle-schoolers can start to learn and understand how programming and robotics works.

So, I'm sorry a middle-schooler is smarter than you.

  • Ouch looks like I hit a soft spot =P

I understood your comment. I replied to your comment and just changed it up. Let me rephrase it.

You just don't understand how much thought, time, and competitiveness went into this game. Yeah it looks boring, but figuring out how to get a 40" diameter ball that weighs a ton off the ground with a robot that has the size...What was it like 35x30"? It's more difficult than you'd imagine. Looks boring, but it's actually quite difficult and, yet fun.

  • Fun to you yes but not to everyone. Your just going to have to get use to that. The game itself was easy to come up with. The bots would be a little hard to design and build then the game.

  • lol I agree 100%

  • Why did you watch the video if all you were going to do is make fun of it?Your not funny in any way and you need to Get a life dude.

  • You replied to a comment that is 4 months old...LMFAO. Looks like your the one who needs to get a life. I didn't plan on making fun of it until I seen what they were using the bots for and how boring the sport is. I see now why more people build bots for battlebots, RFL and so on.

  • 4 months ago or not its still a comment. I dont appreciate negative people giving their opinion on something that might be to "complicated" for them.

  • Did you not read all my comments? I bet you didn't. This is not complicating it's boring. How many damn times do I have to say it? I see you find it complicated that not everyone finds this sport fun and would rather build bots for fighting competitions.

  • GO FIRST!!!!!!!

  • On kickoff they make you watch like an hour and a half of stuff just to see that.

  • this was such a funn competition... i was from team 1100

  • stupid!its imposible..

  • Go team 240, from Monroe/New Port, Michigan. I am not on the team, because I live in Teutopolis, Illinois, however, my cousin is. His name is A. W.(he wishes to be anomyous) He is on the build team. He is a junior at Jefferson High School, and has a twin sister. Her name is S. W. Their regional is the GreatLakes Regional held at Eastern Michigan University on 27, 28, and 29 of March. I will not be there because I live so far away, but I will be there in spirit, cheering them on to victory. Go 240

  • S.W. is driving the robot at the competion.

  • Go Team 1474 at BOSTON!

  • w00t to Team 547 1319 and 343 at the Peachtree Regional!

  • 488 are the true champs who were robbed of their victory.

  • can't wait till the competition :]

    -Team 53

  • Team 702 with the fastest robot check it out and good luck 2 all you teams out there

  • This is the power of us neards. Neards are cool, and I would rather (which I am) be a neard then a popular dimwit with a IQ of 0.

  • Hey, what's with the neagtive thread here?

Remember your GRACIOUS PROFESSIONALISM, my children.

  • Ugh, this is going to be one hell of a playing area to set up and break down. Perhaps I won't volunteer to do that this time around.

  • hey! why dont you immature team members shut up and get to work.

    -team 1793

  • TEAM 840!!! YEAH!!

Good luck to all of you this year

  • team 133! look for me @ the granite state regionals, ill be dressed as an eagle

  • thanks for posting this ive been looking

  • team 1517 rules!

  • team 702 this years winner bitches what you know bout that

  • team 2606

    first year

  • 854 keepin it real fo sho!

  • 854 is just keepn' it real

  • What strategy did the majority of you guys go with?

Our team decided to lift the ball over the rack using a grabbing mechanism.

Personally, I think that the most point-efficient method would be to just race around the track as fast as possible, without the ball.

    Discuss.

  • :' ( it makes me sad that no one cares to start a intellectual discussion about this lovely prompt. Instead, they are just saying how good their team is. I expected better from robotics students. Eh, I suppose it's just YouTube. Everyone seems to lose a couple IQ points while commenting videos.

  • Way to make your team (and your race. Show a little pride for God's sake. We are not Niggers) look good. If I was at a regional I would seriously consider not picking your team if they are as immature as you are.

  • I cannot wait to get to Atlanta. I know 1241 is going to be there and I am going to ask the mentors to find out who you are so you, I and your mentors can have a little pow wow about your attitude problem, kid.

  • ahahahahhahahahahhahahaha good for you i can't wait to meet you in person !

  • The feeling is mutual kid.

  • right about that. people should be more focused on their robots seeing we have not alot of time left til shipping.

  • Well I'm assuming you get 1 pt for each robot that crosses the finish line (since pushing the ball past it gets you 2) And since getting the ball over the rail gives you 8 pts and then setting the ball on the rail at the end gives you 12...it's probably a good ability for your robot to have =P but it depends on the capabilities of your alliance members too

  • 2 for a successful lap, 4 for getting the ball and the robot across the line, 8 for getting the ball over the rack. While the fact that getting the ball over the rack nets more points is a valid opinion, its still a good idea to consider that in the time it takes to get the ball around the field, many more laps could have been made.

  • team 177 is gonna dominate just like last year...

  • Team 1014 ftw...the ball is freaking huge, but programming team doesn't care!

  • yay team 1070!!!!!!! im kinda nervous bout this u guys....the ball is pretty slippery. oy vey- GOOD LUCK Y'ALL!!

  • 1619 Up-A-Creek Robotics Colorado Regional 2008!!!

  • team 69 is the shit

  • GO TEAM 662!

  • GO TEAM 2191

  • Nice!!!! Looks like a cool game this year.

  • 620! we are the team!!! wow~~!!!

  • please post on google video so i can download it to ipod format

  • it on the First website in all formats on the home page

  • notice at 1:52, the red robot is over 6 feet tall in the opponens home streatch, 10 point deduction!

  • is this true?

  • 204's gonna reek some havoc :3

  • Anybody know the weight/hardness of the trackballs?

    They're like large kickballs right?

  • they are 8-10 lbs and it is a big rubber ball coated in nylon material

  • 40 inches in diameter I believe.

  • 190 FTW

  • 423! Go SEC!

    good luck to everyone

  • 1516 is here to win it again!

  • Hi guys this is my first year at the competition and I have one question.

Are there any size/weight/structure restrictions to the robot?

  • 28" x 36" x 60" tall

    i believe.

check the Robot section of the manual.

the manual will be your bible for the next six weeks so invest in a stack of paper and a binder.

  • That applies to when the game starts. After the start, the robot may expand to fill an 80" diameter cylinder with unlimited height.

  • ok i will Thanks!

  • check the stie

  • 1747 from Lafayette, Indiana.

    Go HBR!!

  • 1756 here we're pumped for this years competition!

  • Norfolk VA, Team 1793 WOO!

    Good luck teams!

  • I think they could have come up with a better game then that.

  • There IS defensive strategy: for example, blocking a robot that is trying to get their ball over the top. This could waste enough time for your alliance member to go around more times, racking up points while the other alliance goes for the jackpot.

  • You can't intentionally block anyone, so there isn't defense...

  • Ah. I am not on the team this year so I'm not working with the compliance team. That simplifies things. :/

  • You can't block other robots. Robots can bump each other to signify that they want to pass, and if the bumped robot doesn't move within six seconds then they get penalized. I'm not sure how many points it is, but I know there's a penalty.

  • this year's game is quite different.

It sounds easy, but it's really not, especially if you really want to be way better than the other teams

  • There is no defense in this years compitition you cant cause obstruction they did this because last year the defense was brutal so no defnese

  • its pretty sick ya. im from team 620, James Madison HS.

we are are gonna rock you peeps. haha jp. good luck teams!!

  • I can't wait 2 c the manual...I mean, they didn't even give any dimensions or weight limit... What if my team decides to build a wide but VERY slow robot? HAHA...man...this is going 2 b great! GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE TEAMS OUT THERE!

    ~Team 928~Richmond Regional

  • there are dimensions and a weight limit

  • Where could I get a copy of the High Def video for this?

  • Never Mind I found it on NASA web.

  • you mind giving it to me

  • Haha nice. I saw this when it was broadcasted. Pretty wicked sick. But heyy pretty awesome.

Good luck to other teams. See you at Championships in Atlanta, GA.

Rack n Roll was just crazy field set upppp whoever when to Ruckus in Rochester, NY sweet. Hope to see you again.

Aim High was the first competition that got me involved in Robotics. Pretty awesome.

  • Nice, my friend is from High Tech High, they are gonna clean house like they always do.

  • dark hawk, you crazy!

    how is it complex?

aim high and rack n roll were much more intricate

for one thing, the field moves in a set direction

    there's no defensive strategy

and points are awarded for.... driving in a circle

i'm not saying it won't be intense, but in the end, this was a mediocre game compared to years past

  • was just thinking the same thing. Aim High killed my team, and Rack and Roll was crazy.

Rack n Roll had exponential scoring, and in this one, its just four points for crossing the line in hybrid mode, and then 2 points for pushing the ball over the finish line, then 8 for shooting it over the overpass.

very easy compared to years past...

  • In my opinion the games for FVC and FRC disappoint the people that have grown to love the challenge that FIRST brings to their competitions.

  • hey WhoIsToby, since it's so easy, maybe you and your team should make your bot run in autonomous the entire match... I think that's kinda what Dean Kamen might've been hinting at...

  • hey this is probaply the most complex game yet... it should be fun to see what people come up with.

    GO TEAMS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it's gonna be interesting, but honestly, it's going to be chaos imo... i'm not all that fond of it to be honest.....

Team 1551 -- The Grapes of Wrath, Naples NY

  • This was wierd when I first saw it. I helped inflate the ball today and it was massive. Our team even tried playing soccer with it just for laughs.

  • feel free to send me ideas BRO

    loll

    ;-)

  • lol, well, what ideas do you guys have?

  • ... when was this!!!!!

  • I kinda like this years game. I thought it was boring at first, but now that me and my team have an idea, I'm really excited about it. Hope to see some teams in atlanta.

  • agreed yo

ihmo - it's the most uninventive game yet

no 10 foot high chin up bars, no ball shooting cannons, no stacking tetras

it's like nascar when a fan drops a beach ball on the track

    just driving and pushing shit

  • im figuring out some electronics stuff but noone is replying on chief delphi !!!!!

  • waddup mike!

    way to steal my sig.

    lol

  • i dont like this years game too much

  • Well, it's a pretty interesting game this year, it'll be really hard to menuever that large ball arround. Thanks for the video

  • haha! YAY! it's going to be fun!! good luck to your team!!

  • Took me 20 minutes to download from NASA due to obvious high traffic

Just lending a hand to all those who couldn't be at kickoff, myself included

GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS! SEE YOU IN ATLANTA!
