  • Umm, fail... I guess. I'm not quite sure what you were trying to do so... Good job, maybee..?

  • Yea, like the modum in War Games.

  • wait isn't that the theme of CGRundertow!

  • did he died?

  • it has a 8bit pu ithink

  • I had this console in the early 80s and i couldn´t remember either as i watched this.

  • You actually had me talking to my computer. For three minutes I was saying to my screen, "I think you're supposed to press a number....press 1....no, press 1....come on press it...It's gotta be the number buttons....come on!!!!" LOL.

  • I must admit that the complete and total confusion that the keyboard causes him is very funny and very entertaining, haha.

  • I have one that my Aunt had since we were kids. It is amazing we only needed odd shaped circles eating dots to entertain us. One of her game cartridges was titled computer intro and I guessing that is what the keyboard is for. She also had a Ventrex. I am going to try and hook it up to my TV and I think I can hook that Co-Axle thing up to the TV. It has been ages since I have done anything like this. Thanks for video. Can use all the help I can get.

  • The K.C. Munchkin game cartridge said press 1 through 3 to start a game.

  • Lol this is funny because I'd be doing the same thing in trying to get it to work...

  • sooo pac man was a rip off of kc munckin

  • @9000pivot, actually it's the other way around. Pac-Man was released in 1980. K.C. Munchkin was released in 1981.

  • @9000pivot I am not sure who ripped off who, but most video game systems had a dot eating game back then the Ventrex called it MoneyBags. Some of the games were really funny.

  • @FuLuShouXi It's the "Vectrex" And it's called Clean Sweep.

  • Haha thanks for this, I couldn't figure out how to SELECT GAME either :-)

  • Hmm I'm sure I tried the number buttons but it didn't work. I think the keyboard is broken on my G7000.

  • I have an Odyssey 2 with everything but the AC adapter. Any ideas on where I can get a replacement AC adapter? I want to play K.C. Munchkin badly!

  • @zolo1243 eBay?

  • @campervan25

Not a loose AC adapter. I'd have to buy the whole set, which would cost a fortune.

  • @zolo1243

It uses the same adapter as the NES and Sega Genesis. So if you have either of those, you can swap with those consoles. From personal experience I'm using my genesis (model 1) adapter and it works fine, and nes one I think would work too.

  • @jcrowley1985

Way, way too late to tell me that. I already threw it out sometime last year.

  • great review

  • i must admit thats rather f-ed up?

this thing has a giant keyboard? UH

  • KFC munchkin lol

  • 0:56

  • Numbers select the games. Level, mode, etc

  • the epic music makes this for me.

  • I am very sad...my Ody2 broke...

  • at least it still works

  • we just dug mine out of the shed. It's been stored forever. Have tons of games with all the manuals but can't get it to work. don't know what is wrong with it

  • try to clean your games with windexs and q-tips.

  • Those joysticks were actually the second version of the original silver ones. The silver ones were also built into the console but had no 8-way dividers - just a square box you'd move the joystick around in.

We actually had to send the console back to E. Orange, NJ to replace the joysticks after two solid years of beating the hell out of them! It was a long wait, but when it came back, we actually got a newer console with the third version of the black/red sticks and these had PLUGS! :)

  • @Chordonblue The non-divider controllers actually sound better in that respect. Aren't the dividers awkward?

  • @Tryzon: It depended on the game. I think the later games actually played a LOT better without the dividers!

  • when you say clear it sounds like queer

  • CGRHD plz revew the Magnavox Odyssey 1 !!!

  • AVGN did an odyssey 1 review

  • I've seen the avgn one and it's hilarious. I'd love to see CGR do one too.

  • he might not have an odyssey 1 and its hard to find one

  • I found one of these in someones garbage last summer, in the box! Looks like it's in good shape but for some reason I never got around to checking it out to see if it works, I hope it does. No games with it though, for the price I can't complain.

    Good video!

  • Read the sticker on the cartridge... It tells you what game to select.

  • freedom fighters! is the best game for the system imo! i play the hell out of it daily!

  • "It's probably not the dividing symbol..."

  • I got my Odyssey on the second.

    ;I love it.

    Plays like a real beauty.

  • So let's see, you press the reset button in the case that the SELECT GAME lettering does not appear on the screen.

ENTER button to enter a game when SELECT GAME is displayed on the screen, then press 1 to start the game from the {Insert Game Title Here} menu.

  • I think I understand now.

  • i had this system a few years back!

    good old times :)

    but than it broke :(

  • ebay has them...:)

  • I found one of these at a yard sale once. I paid 5 bucks for it. Sold it later for 20 bucks but didn't have any games with it.

  • I had one of those about 30 years ago. What I remember most was (I believe) that the joysticks had too much play in them.

  • I had one of those that my dad got from a Thrift Store, and it was completely non-functional. Thanks for this vid, now I get to see how it works! 5 stars

  • Yeah I like the beginning where Mark is trying to figure out how to start it up. I've been in similiar situations before.

  • I want a boxed console, I miss the feeling of opening one.

  • i dont know if you know this or not but on the game cartridges in says press 1. most say press 1 but in the case of KC munchkin and other games it says press 1-4 1-5 ect ect to select different difficulties or on some cartridges, different games. Also the keyboard and function keys are used for educational/math games and some fun games. i have a multi-game cartridge. one game is a game where you type a word and it scrambles it and another player needs to guess the word and it counts their mistak

  • "It's probably not the dividing symbol..."

    Much funnyness.

  • you sound a wee bit like Arnold Schwarzenegger sometimes.

  • I saw some odyssey 2 SEALED games in a video game store where I lived (but now game consoles) I was surprised..sealed wow..I may get a odyssey now for kc munchkin and others. =D. Great funny review.

  • i just found one of these in my attic haha, hopw much they worth?

  • eh 20-100 depending on the condition

  • COOL

  • OMG, I had this 'console' back in the days, (i'm only 31) but it rocked!!! Math o magic made math so fun! The keyboard was really only used for the learning games...when all elese fails, just push all the buttons!! Invaders from Hyperspace is friggin' addicting!!! Love it! *Memories*

  • had one , loved it, fave games were volleyball, showdown 2100 ad, alpine skiing, invaders from hyperspace.

  • wow it must be fun starting a game lol the greatest RPG ever starting a magnavox odesy game T_T lol

  • The keyboard was supposed to be for educational games. Anyways, great video..

  • Please I need the name of the RCA adapter!! please I need the name!! Please!!!

  • i still own one of these things from back in 1982, about 30 games. Games like Take the Money and Run, War of Nerves, and I've Got Your Number have some pretty interesting glitches. Push each other through the walls or into the box with contains your score!

  • this stuff was pretty exciting.,

  • im bidding at this very time on a particular auction site(you know the one)for a Magnavox system with about fourteen games all boxed, wish me luck everybody, BTW CGR what video camera do you use for the bulk of the vids you do? As I am looking for recomendations on an all round mid range camera to start uploading my own vids & I was impressed by the quality of the close up on the coaxial adapter ,Cheers..

  • I used to have that system. There were several games that i liked. Pick axe pete, war of the worlds, kc munchkins crazy chase, UFO... and others that slip my mind. Great memories.

  • I have a video of my Atari 2600 staring up after 26 years.

  • young padawan,

    that alone is why you,

can not be a retro gamer

  • Damn right. Some kids just don't get it.

  • Cool, being 21 years old is still referred to as being a kid? Sweet!

Anyways, shut the fuck up. Please. I enjoy these videos nonetheless, so stop the circle-jerking before I vomit.

  • lulz, brother's gay account ftw.

  • It was just a joke man, calm down. I'm sorry if I affended you.

  • mranderson, easy.. game play, not graphics. Its in the eye of the beholder.

  • The point is that he doesn't choose two consoles to compare based on technical capabilities, but because of other similarities. For example, the PS2 and Atari 2600 were both the most popular consoles of their time. I imagine that the Dreamcast and the O2 are being compared because they were both consoles with tremendous potential which never had a chance to shine because they were overshadowed by the competition.

  • Thanks for showing decency and just explaining it unlike the other people that thought ridiculing me was better than an explanation.

Like I said, either way, I enjoy these videos.

  • I think that the dreamcast is better than the odyssey 2. Not because of the graphics and stuff, the dreamcast just rulez. ^^

  • Way to bring back another wave of the past, great job Mark!

how does Stella feel about the O2?

  • Looks awesome. Now I want one.

  • wow! the graphics on this thing blow the a2600 out of the water!!

  • I was yelling the whole video 'push the numbers! the numbers!'

  • You and me both.

  • STILL EPIC

  • Yes.....yes..yes -breaks the Odyssey 2-

  • After watching this video I can SCARCELY imagine why Magnavox didn't become a video game empire.

  • How does Edit-Station feel about the Odyssey 2? Jealous?

  • CONFUZED

  • computer says 'no'.

    *cough*

    *cough*

  • lmao

  • how come u uploaded it in 2 parts?first part was 10 minutes +/- second is 5:04,u uploaded vids longer than 16 minutes :S

  • Mark did I teach you nothing about the O2. I thought that as a fan of the Atari 2600 you would have kown to look on the cart for the game selection lol. Good stuff man, now for the game reviews.

  • Damn, i wish most game reviewers were like this, where they upload part 2 in 10 minutes!! lol

  • the first odyssey was hilarius

  • I just was angry having to wait for Part II but you upload faster than I can spell f...!
