  • lol i bought this album from hmv for 10 bucks yesterday

  • wow imagine if nas died with biggie and pac and only had the illmatic album out he would be legend

  • @caterpillars1tounge Just being the artist who released Illmatic is more than enough to make Nas a legend. He's not recognized by everyone as that, the way Pac and Biggie are, but in the eyes of true hip hop fans Nas is one of the best ever.

  • @TheLastRealOne : I totally agree with u, Nas is a legend and should be recognized as great as PAC and BIGGIE, he is on that level, Noooo freakin doubt.

  • @caterpillars1tounge im glad he is still alive and has released so many albums.

  • Nigga Nas got some ill waves

  • a combination of the best producers of all time with the greatest lyricists of all time = illmatic.

  • my 1st album had no famous guest appearances...the outcome...???

i'm crowned the best lyricist...- Nas

  • the man at 4:29 was absolutely

  • Classic! The info for this video should also mention that Ralph McDaniels is the dude who put this press kit together for Nas back then AND shot Nas' first video ever for Halftime!

  • rofl@the kid at 5:04

  • I was fortunate enough to buy a used Illmatic album (CD) back in the mid 90s. Not going to tell you where but I bought a hip-hop classic for such as cheap price!

  • they should make illmatic 2 with the same producers.

  • @ec660 No, they shouldn't. Nas is always moving forward. Listen to the Stillmatic intro. Listen to his new shit, new flow is mad!

  • Best album nas ever made..

  • 2 people ate a dick while watching this video.

  • Never Take A Day Off - Phage, Royale & Prince D

Phage & Royal - The Poison

    LYRICAL Rappers. :)

  • Everything they said....... Word. It turned out to be the best hip hop album ever made.

  • This is the kind of album on which EVERY joint is HOT i recomend you to buy this if your a true hip hop fan and got some like 20 bucks, its allways good to show rappers that real hip hop sells ! peace !

  • Dude Primo looks so young haha

  • yea this better be hella new. shit is WAY TOO IMPORTANT to only have 6,000 views

  • Illmatic is a classic no doubt. However, I think his "untitled" album was one of the most underrated and most prolific rap albums in the last 10 years.

  • @bobbybenjamin cuz it was wack

  • @killlilwayne

Unless your a follower you should know millions of views does not = good

  • @LiveOpinion thers like 2 good songs

  • fuck what i wouldve given to have been in that studio

  • Comment removed

  • yo yo this album here is a def classic. i mean come some of the best producers halped make these masterpiece. shit is just illmatic, and if in a life or death situation where i could only take 5 things, this album would be #1 in my list jaja Real Talk!! album done changed my life, i still have the original album actually 2 of them and i still bump this hoe!! Awready!!

  • This album changed my life.

  • Yes, we know what you are saying!

  • Oh, man. Look at the gear they be rockin'. Truly '90s!

  • clearly poetry!

  • ummmmm, to come out on your first joint with a producer line up like that, was just , sillly!!! wow. dopest mc

  • they left life's a bitch off that track list!

i guess they forgot one time 4 your mind too but thats prob the one forgettable track on the album

  • Is that Ja Rule at 2:05?

  • Illmatic is in the top 5 for sure.

  • illmatic is the second best hip hop album after death certificate. dont get it twisted.

  • @FunkResin GET DA FUCK OUTTTA HERE!!!

  • best buy i may ever made ...didnt even know who he was when i bought it i just read the track names on the back & knew i had 2 have that ...world is yours, has a profound meaning 4 me, i say it everyday!

  • Illmatic is the real deal.

  • I love the "Human Nature" sample.

  • Such a killer album - mad to see this promo.

  • Thanks for this!!

  • 1 up

  • I still got 2 copies on vinyl......"This theme of HipHop's got me stuck like a crack pipe"

  • clearly tells you why illmatic was so good and why Nas blew up. A Young Nas with his freshest rhymes, An All-Star Production Cast (Large Professor, Q-tip, Pete Rock, DJ Premier), and of course the 90's hip hop scene when back then if music was good, people bought it. Thanks for posting Vintage.

  • One love is a true story eh ?

  • One Love!

  • Thanks for posting!! ill

  • SCIENCE.. PURE SCIENCE!

  • When the West Coast was in control of the rap scene, Wu Tang was first with Enter The 36 Chambers, then Nas dropped this Hip Hop Masterpiece, then when Biggie dropped Ready To Die...NY rap was back where it belongs. I hope that NY can have another period like this soon because I'm tired of this bullshit we hear on the radio and watch on TV today.

  • @geronjenkins18 I hear ya. Grew up in NY during the 90s. WuTang 36 Chambers laid it out. Miss that music. Now its all underground. All it is today is Lil Jon, Lil Wayne, TI and shit like that. No brain rap.

  • @geronjenkins18 Then u had Jeru the Damaja with Sun Rises Out The East ,Method Man WITH Tical, AZ with Doe or Die , Big L with Lifestylez ov the Poor and Dangerous, Raekwon with Only Built For Cuban Linx, Gza with Liquid Swords, Mobb Deep with The Infamous, Fugees with The Score, Busta Rhymes with The Coming and so on

  • @2KILLAVILLE Very True!!!

  • REPRESENT, REPRESENT!!!

  • Clearly one of the greatest rap albums ever recorded. No ifs, ands, or buts. Nas revolutionized rap music like Michael Jordan did professional basketball. Raspy voice, poetical delivery, and dope beats. That's all he needed.

  • nice back story

  • Nas is good but Illmatic was great coz of the masterminds behind it like Pete Rock , Dj Premier , Q-tip ect.

  • half man half amazing!!

  • Illmatic was the greatest!

  • is the greatest!

  • He is a Poet !

  • kid @ 4:53 is thoro

  • Illmatic is one of the greatest albums of the 90's but not the greatest. I would put Enter the Wu-Tang 36 Chambers above it, The infamous above it (Even tho Nas as an artist is better than Mobb Deep), Word Life by O.C., Da Shinin by Smiff N Wesson above it but its still one of the best.

  • classic

  • illa ghee:)

  • ghetto monk

  • *walking down memory lane*

  • @NYVAboy I dont even think he says walking once in that song?

  • @eldiablo9604 I really meant by me but true

  • @NYVAboy Oh haha sorry about that

  • thanks soooo much for the upload. on my fav Hiphop artist. :) A+

  • No matter what people say Illmatic is and will be the greatest rap album.

  • @jgcfc58 HELLL NO! its great but it isnt da greatest ....... capital punishment kills that so does life after death

    ready to die

    straight outta compton

    and many more........

  • @AntonielEllis2010 Nahh man, Illmatic is better than those albums, there was only about 4 songs i liked on Capital Punishment. My favorite album from the Mid 90's era would either be "Lifestylez ov the poor and dangerous by Big L" or "Word.... Life by O.C."

  • @AntonielEllis2010 life after death? gtfoh

  • @AntonielEllis2010 one might argue that, after Illmatics release, many of the greatest east coast albums (and most hip hop albums i.e. Pac admittedly got the idea of "Girlfriend" from Nas' "Power" ) do not exist without Illmatic, the playability of Illmatic vs, other great albums is a matter of opinion, but the way it shifted the culture and raised the bar is undeniable. Illmatic belongs in the debate of the greatest hiphop albums.ever

  • @jgcfc58 absolutely

  • amen! Also, preach.

  • @jgcfc58 I have to say NO. N.W.A Straight outta Compton is the absolute best RAP/HIP HOP album ever and I don't see how it can ever be surpassed. Most the Rap out these days wouldn't be here if it wasn't for N.W.A. They deserve way more respect, where ever you're from.

  • @scumgod13 sorry B, IllMatic is the GREATEST hip-hop album of all time..NWA was dope, however (besides Ice Cube) they were a manufactured marketing ploy...shock value for record sales, the marketing of a 50 yr old jewish cat, again NWA did make great music, but it wasnt authentic..ILLMactic changed the course of an entire generation for east coast hip-hop, nothing was manufactured

  • @Knowie0782 How can you say besides Ice Cube he was my favorite next Easy. But you're right about the old jewish manager he put the Money up but those lyrics were written straight from the street. Everyone has their fave, I also like O.C.U. out of Chicago and Too Short.Maybe that stuff hit me harder cause it was the first rap I head that was that RAW! I dig NAS, I wasn't coming down on the album.I like Immortal Technique these days cause no one touches his music but him!

  • @scumgod13 ocu came thru with one of the DOPEST albums

  • @reygisperado Yea! I wish I had that now. Don't give a Bitch an Inch!Ha.

  • epic

  • fuckin ill

  • The hip-hop bible, one of my favorite hip-hop albums of all time.

If you like underground/golden age era hip-hop check out my uploads

  • Hit play and foget bout it...

  • a piece of history

  • one of the best mc's ever...nice promo

  • LOL that little kid

  • Thank you for uploading this! So glad I got too see this!

  • One word: sold.

  • Classic shit right here.

One of, if not the best album ever made.

  • he should make a illmatic2 with the same producers

  • @locosbarbas OMG YES

  • @locosbarbas That would kick new schools ass

  • @locosbarbas There was an attempt with Stillmatic, but it's hard getting the same producers involved. Label politics has a lot to do with it. Even in 2011 he could attempt to do that and come up with the same magical blueprint for a dope album. But Nas has moved on, and that's what artists of his status do.

  • @locosbarbas

they gonna do that for 2014

    20year ana-verse-a-ree

  • @locosbarbas Premo and Pete have already said they will and are waiting for the call.

  • @locosbarbas illmatic is something you dont recreate. just leave it alone. its a classic. this is nas's magnum opus.

  • @locosbarbas It was called Stillmatic

  • @locosbarbas he is searched it up

  • @locosbarbas i think stillmatic is the closest he can get to illmatic

plus why ruin something by trying to make it again

  • @newyorkshardest3

    I liked Stillmatic better.

  • @newyorkshardest3 illmatic was great but he had to shiw people he was still that elite eemce

  • @locosbarbas That's all he needs.. We need..

  • @locosbarbas it wouldnt be that good dude, nas is in a different place now

  • @jerzy862 it would be something perfect man illmatic 2: from rags to riches

  • @locosbarbas i think you'd just get disapointed dude, nas isnt hungry anymore. look at how Eminem tried his Slim Shady persona on Relapse, shit was terrible.

Nas, Jay, Em, they're not really hungry anymore and they're getting up there in age. they're probably gonna be retiring in a couple years (especially Jay) and a new school of rappers is gonna take their place.

  • @jerzy862 It aint only about 'hungry' tho. You can really duplicate a state of mind. Dudes are not in the same space they were when they came in the game, so you wont really get that same exact vibe from them no matter how hard they may try to duplicate an earlier style. Shit will 99% of the time sound unnatural and/or forced.

  • @locosbarbas Stillmatic is as close to a part 2 you will get..( never backwards stupid here's another classic..) not directed to you I justthink how nas think..

  • Bring back that golden era dunny!!

  • @JayeP1976 word is born.
