When the West Coast was in control of the rap scene, Wu Tang was first with Enter The 36 Chambers, then Nas dropped this Hip Hop Masterpiece, then when Biggie dropped Ready To Die...NY rap was back where it belongs. Illmatic is one of the greatest albums of the 90's but not the greatest. I would put Enter the Wu-Tang 36 Chambers above it, The infamous above it (Even tho Nas as an artist is better than Mobb Deep), Word Life by O.C., Da Shinin by Smiff N Wesson above it but its still one of the best.

Illmatic belongs in the debate of the greatest hiphop albums.ever

Even in 2011 he could attempt to do that and come up with the same magical blueprint for a dope album. But Nas has moved on, and that's what artists of his status do.
