Try and picture a piano laid out differently..

Order of sounds:

1) Up chromatically through all 8 octaves

2) Up though the octaves of each note, one note at a time

3) Plays the same note in every octave, notes in succession

4) All notes in one octave (dissonant), through each octave.

5) Up in fifths, one note at a time moving into a....

6) Canon in fifths, same note in each octave (fading off)

7) Finally.. Down chromatically
