I'm from Ecuador a little country in south America.... and you playing a so good ska really i like it and some day , i hope ,to stay in one live show of you
Well can't really tell I started playing when I was 7 and I'm 18 now.. It took me quite a while to get on a decent level I must say, but I wasn't all that motivated. Your clarinet skills will definately be handy, I think the notes are pretty much the same (but don't really know, have never played a clarinet before). Just try it! And practice, practice, practice!
Saxophone fingerings through the written range are almost identical to clarinet fingerings in the clarion range (from middle B4 to C5). The embouchure transition is where you'll likely have the most difficulty. I struggled to get my lower notes to sound (you need to drop your jaw a good amount) and to keep my high notes from going sharp (just loosen up your lip pressure slightly), but actually fingering passages is pretty simple once you get started.
man this is a very cool ska band. the sax sounds so soothing. kudos to you guys. you can rarely hear people make this kind of stuff anymore. thanks for keeping ska alive man. much respect to you guys.
whats the difference betwen Tenorsax and altsax? what sax should I have if I want to play Ska? thinking of buying one but would like to know witch one I should get. greatful for answers :)
although this shouldnt realy affect your decision im going to have to point out that, although i love the sound of a tenor sax, they are fucking heavy and own your neck lol, but you get used to it (invest in a decent strap)
I'd love to learn the sax. Saw one recently in a second hand intrument shop for under 300 quid. A Bb tenor sax. Does the Bb make any difference. Would you reccomend any particular tuning for ska?
ska is the best thing ever people will try to explain it in many different words but ska can not be put into words
if you think about it ska isnt even a word its a sound but the guitar has upstrokes on the offbeat and like a clicking sound on the beat then usually there is a hrn section or organ or piano the bass is a walking bass alot of the time and it is somewhat like reggae but its not exactly the same its a branch off of it
Heresy!...Sorry just kidding. LOL. Actually Reggae is a branch of Ska. There are plenty of home brew videos about the history of Ska here on youtube. You just need to search for history of ska and a few will pop up.
ska can explain it has 3 waves you ar hearing the secon the third is the new one the mixture of ska u are hearing is 1950/60 jamaica ska with some english rock the third ska wave is punk rock with american style and jaimca ska all in
well if you want to explain the guitar part is easy ska has its own rythem in the chors you have to lift all of your fingers depending the time of the song, thats the explanation of the upstrokes on the offbeat you can play the same song in 3 diferent ways, laso as you notice, the bass is a walking bass cause is something caracteristic of this music gender hear this bands ska-p latin ska band very good goldfinger - superman, goldfinger american band and the song superman very good
well also the ska that is a branch form reggae is the 1950/60 jaimaca ska the original ska, well lamots forgot goldfinger is known by 99 red ballons from nena but u guy form youtube hear goldfinger - superman i know that u will like it...
damn, i don't know how you britains do it (are you?:) ) but you always seem to have that special (uhu, the specials) way of playing ska.
And on the saxophone (my instrument), you brighten this song with the nice and happy tunes. Not too difficult, but you found it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrreat, that's what I think!
right on! UK has alot of good ska, especially from the 2-tone movement. not to mention the Toasters (very good third wave ska) are fronted by Robert Hingley, who is British.
Skad for life. I play your track all the time. I would like to see more of your talents on youtube. Sadly you are based to far from where I live or I would come see you at your gigs.
I am chained to my computer regarding my business, so I love to listen to "Skad for life" It cheers me up and gets my foot tapping,it is a great stress buster .
Well done and give my regards to Sax player she is great !

It's funny you mentioned tapping your feet, because untill I read that I didn't even realize that I was subconsciously tapping my feet.

alto is smaller/higher. tenor is bigger/lower
specially alto is in key of Eb and tenor is in key of Bb. most ska bands use tenor's just because they have the more jazzy low sound

ok thanks for explaining that for me. I´ll buy or rent a Tenor then Peace
