It seems to me that strikeforce will become the UFC's reserve league, when guys loose 3 fights in a row they'll go straight in to strikeforce, its a pretty good system, you have to have different levels of competition, because not everyone can compete at the top level. Presumably the best fighters from strikeforce will eventually end up in the UFC, and the lesser fighters from UFC will replace them.

Zuffa wants money and a monopoly on MMA. They are worried about turning profits and eliminating competitors. The reason strikeforce had a following of fans is because they were not associated with Zuffa, the bureacracies of corporate agendas, and they provided competitive fights and fighters outside of UFC. But Dana puts his opinions into business and many good fighters, announces, referees and others will lose their job and fans will now have to pay more money to watch MMA. Fuck off dana!

Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin for example. Brock got paid 400,000 dollars which was announced. Carwin got 1/10th of that which was announced. Both fighting in a championship fight. A huge PPV fight that had a massive draw. And one guy gets paid 1/10th.

The issue is that there are "UFC" fans vs "MMA" fans. If you are a UFC fan, then this is a no brainer and is good for UFC. However this is not good news for "MMA". Dana claims he wants to put on the best fights, but only to grow & expand the UFC brand, and not nessesarily in the best interest of MMA. He can't help tripping over his own ego to do the best for the "Sport". Eventually you can see Strikeforce go the way of "Pride" ...It's a shame!

man, I remember when mma was a small niche sport. Almost nobody knew a damn thing about it. Ever since the The Ultimate Fighter, UFC (and with it, the sport) has exponentially grown through the years.

The issue is that there are "UFC" fans vs "MMA" fans. If you are a UFC fan, then this is a no brainer and is good for UFC. However this is not good news for "MMA". Dana claims he wants to put on the best fights, but only to grow & expand the UFC brand, and not nessesarily in the best interest of MMA. He can't help tripping over his own ego to do the best for the "Sport". Eventually you can see Strikeforce go the way of "Pride" ...It's a shame!

Listen, everyone wants to be at the top, if Zuffa wasn't running shit someone else would be doing it. It's human nature. And how is the UFC expansion bad for MMA? Pride died so Zuffa bought them out, WEC was virtually unnoticeable until Zuffa's financial help, and now SF.
Overeem himself said that this purchase is great for the sport, he's extremely excited just like many fighters. FINANCIALLY, this is great for the sport...assuming Zuffa plays their cards right.

I think it's great for MMA, UFC is doing great and Strikeforce was going into debt, it's better to keep the company going under a new reign than have it collapse under the old one. Also no more rigged fights in Strikeforce (putting shields against Hendo and only advertising Hendo).
