I have a hard on for the metric system. Besides the United States, only for Burma and Liberia have not adopted the metric system. I usually don't care what the rest of the world does. But the metric system is a no brainer.

I finally figured out why so many chicos refuse to speak English. It is because many of them can't read or write Spanish. So reading and writing English is out of the question for them. Immigrants who are economically successful don't need to be convinced to speak English. If I moved to a foreign country I would make every effort to learn their language. And I sure as hell would not think they are obligated to use my language.

Learning a language is a process which entails time and effort. Some have more time or aptitude than others. I know only English and have no problem trying to communicate with anyone who doesn't speak English..just the same as I don't mind trying to communicate with a deaf/mute person. The stubborn and ignorant refusal of immigrants (mostly spanish-speaking ones) to learn English is indeed only one PART of the problem. It is indicative of their wish to forsake integrating into American society and culture. THAT refusal incorporates refusal to learn or speak English. Our nation will not survive if it is "every culture for itself" no matter what country they came from.
