Both ceremonies were wondrous!.. Athens 1997,and Athens 2004!...I don't like to compare those two ceremonies !..Greek culture has so much to show,.One ceremony it's not enough to show the wonder that is Greece! ..Even if we have 10-20 more ceremonies,still we will see different and amazing things!...Greece has so much to offer !

I agree with you that they should use Vangelis again for the Athens Olympic Ceremony.

Journalists and specialists from all over the world described the Athens 2004 Opening Ceremony as the best ever and one that can not be surpassed.

To me, it was just a very well made history presentation. In contrast I saw Vangelis ceremony as pure art.

He mixed ancient music, dances and costumes together with his own music and sounds from the future and dressed everything in latest visual technology. And all looked so natural and beautiful. He created an atmosphere that for more than an hour traveled me back in time, to the land of my ancestors. I thank him eternally for that emotion.

The Athens 2004 ceremony definitely achieved to present in a beautiful and stylish manner, Greek history and humanism. Unfortunately, nothing more than that.

I do respect Papaionannous work in making the Olympic ceremony of 2004 and I do see it as one of the best Olympic Opening Ceremony ever made. But I think that the goal of an Olympic Ceremony is different than what Vangelis had in mind.

Papaionannou, as an avant-garde choreographer he is used to work within constraints.

Vangelis on the other hand is an artist, a creator of dreams that is used to work with no constraints or boundaries.

I think this fact made the difference.
