i can say the same for the americans... but as one, i know they arn't more normal.
stanford prison experiment anyone?
they wern't 'mad', they were using old battle tactics. out of date, perhaps, but far from the stark raving insanity of the district of collumbia.
... normal? you mean defeated, depressed, or stupid? probably a little, but they havn't lost the Japanese spirit of trying to do something well... at least not yet.
@askjiir Look - im a realist, being Greek i loved the valiant struggle the Greeks put up against Italy - then formed one of the greatest resistance movements in Europe ( some real Inglorious Basterds stuff ) but then they turned and fought each other ... typical Greek bravado and macho bullshit.
Then we had a nice dictator after the collaborators... History is never one sided.
@askjiir so it should just be let go and forgotten, because it lesser?if two men were a murder suspects,1 of them killed 1,000 men, while the other killed 100,should the judge give the lesser killer a lesser sentence, since he killed lesser people?
They were fanatics in regard to the significance of their emperor. Technologically advanced for a East Asian country at the time, but mentally still living in the middle ages.

personally i hope more countries act the way the germans and japanese did in world war two we need more acts of complete savagry maybe people will start to understand human life is actually worthless and why would you care if another dies the only life/lives you should worry about are you own and your family thats all that matters
Like many here I watched this in my distant youth. I never forgot how good it was but on re-watching eps here, I realise how much it has shaped my language preferences and my taste for documentaries. For better or worse they don't them like this anymore.
well this is all good but to get the full picture you all should watch the Chinese documentaries as well..the Brits didn't do all this by themselves

The war in Burma was an example of unparalleled savagery and brutallity. A conflict of cultures and political short-sightness.

The cruelty and brainless fanaticism of the Japanese during this war, never ceases to amaze me.
Madmen, that is what they were.
I wonder what caused them to be like this in the first place.
I hope that they have become more normal now.
