I'm wondering, what is the purpose behind the Bear Complex, aside from combing all those exercises into one? I've tried them, and it definitely taxes your strength and endurance/heart rate very quickly. But is there a specific benefit from doing the Bear Complex as far as athletics/sports performance goes? Is it a good exercise for someone training for Boxing to do?
@Chuchen It's a combination strength and conditioning exercise. It can be used either lightly for aerobic exercise, or gone heavy to build strength with the heavy weight. It translates relatively well to any sport in which the standard lifts do.
@EndlersaurusRex I'm sorry man but I don't agree. Bear complex or the man maker or similar WODs like king kong or godzilla, yeah they spike your heart rate but I think you do them cause you can do them and they are super cool. NO ONE SHOULD ATTEMPT to do these for "aerobic" exercise...
@RayAir1 why does hard work immediately gives you the impression , that illegal steroids would be involved? wheres your video, of you, doing this exercise flawlessly? even if YOU used steroids , you wouldnt be able to achieve this, hater.
@RayAir1 Lyle Alzado was a piece of shit who caused decades of damage to sports medicine because his dumb ass decided to claim he was the only human being in history to get a brain tumor from hormonal injections and everyone believed him.
rob your my crossfit hero. well you and speal. you for strength. i watched every second of the california road trip on the journal and i just love all these crazy strength vids you post. im 16 and a xfitter. hope one day i make it to the games and mayber meet some of you guys.
Got damn! Had to watch this again. It's not so much the weight. It's how much you control that weight every step of the way. It glides like it's on rails. That takes tremendous strength. Just when I thought I was gonna start takin' her easy I see this and have a new goal. Cheers!
I just started doing these for conditioning and they are very effective. I am keeping the weights light right now just so I can learn the movement, but I really like them.

@abhijeet1989 Not with proper and controlled form you won't.

this is correct. This movement is a bear complex, not a manmaker. A manmaker is an up-down with a renegade row and a clean and press.

This isnt man maker, man maker is on the ground with pushups and dumbells

that is not a "man-maker". that is "I'm trying to look manly, but am going to injure myself".

Whoever posted this video is incorrect on the title, this is the Bear Complex. Manmakers are a routine involving push-ups and Burpees...
skspartan117 1 year ago
This is not a man-maker. This is Rob doing the Bear Complex.

@djswizz naw....the bear complex would have him do a front squat right before the first push-press.
nchun 5 months ago
@djswizz The Bear Complex has a FS in it after the clean. I'm sure Rob could do them, but he didn't here.
He's ridiculous though!

Sweet Jesus, that's amazing. We called that one 'The Bear', but we don't use straps.
gaucoin13 3 years ago
It's not a Bear exactly... A Bear Complex is
Power clean + front squat + shoulder press/push press + back squat + shoulder press/push press

when i say man-maker i usually think of a push-up + two renegade rows=1 rep.
125riptide 3 years ago
A man-makers is a burpee with two renegade rows after finish the push-up + power clean + push press, I think
ivanppolaino 3 years ago
Never seen that before, how long have you been training for?

I've been working out since middle school but I've been TRAINING for the past 14 years. Thanks for watching the vid.

Nice work. Great catch on the clean!
TheAscendant 3 years ago
Thanks. When I used to do these every week I would put up some decent poundages. Now I'm out of practice but hopefully I'll be back in form shortly.
