Well... whether or not Mayhem is "true black metal" is hardly relevant any longer, if it ever were. I have been a Mayhem fan since 1986 (when somebody handed me their demo tape) and I think that "Illuminate Eliminate" is their best album thus far. Many have more fancy sounds, tricksy guitar riffs and artsy attitudes - but when Mayhem cranks up the volume there's no doubt who's the boss in this genre.
I wish they would stop ruining the great image of what was Mayhem, and let it be. Stop touring, making CDs, etc. because it can not compare with Euronymous' Mayhem. No matter what a dick a lot of you lhink Euronymous was, even though most likely you DIDN'T know him, it's a bit obvious how the band went downhill after his murder.

I cannot believe what he says or anyone else who says anything about their relationship unless I was there, and I unfortunately was not. It sounds a bit black metal to me, and I'm just a Euronymous fan. He had some of the best taste in music. And Atilla Csihar is one of the best vocalist, I agree.
Saw mayhem last week in australia, hands down one of the best experiences/shows of my life. I have always thought mayhem were overhyped, and never given them enough credit. They fucking deliver, and the evolution in their sound is far better than many other bands, and personally i tend to like newer mayhem.

@MrAlucard222 not exactly. triggers are devices attached to the drums so that when they are struck (or "triggered") they produce a pre-programmed sound. this allows drummers to play faster, because they can hit the drum extremely lightly and still produce a full sound.
the problem with triggers is that USUALLY they sound like utter dogshit, and produce a notorious, artificial sounding "clicking" tone.... although hellhammer sounds great on this recording, so i dunno why this was brought up
@HammarHeart Yes, you can play hitting the drums very lightly, but it's not cheating, they are necessary at high speed... Plus HH in some bands doesn't trigger his drums, neither the double bass...
@HammarHeart triggers DOESN'T allow you to play faster... Even if you can hit the drum head with less effort (that depends of the sensitivity you put on the trigger, because triggers sensitivity can be graduated to it's more comfortable to your playing...) you have to develop the technique and keep it up in time the song, that's more difficult. In live shows triggers are used to help drummers to save some stamina, pulling a 1 and half hour show it can be demanding to extreme metal drummers.
@rapechristian Exactly, you centre the point, period... Try to play hyper fast double bass parts or blast beats for one hour or more, it's completely devastating for your stamina... Triggers are simply necessary for extreme drumming, but they absolutely don't make you faster or better than you really are, period... Hellhammer is god, triggers or not... Plus he has show to everybody what a monster god he is in Winds, Shining and Age Of Silence without triggers...

Saw mayhem last week in australia, hands down one of the best experiences/shows of my life. I have always thought mayhem were overhyped, and never given them enough credit. They fucking deliver, and the evolution in their sound is far better than many other bands, and personally i tend to like newer mayhem.

@MrAlucard222 not exactly. triggers are devices attached to the drums so that when they are struck (or "triggered") they produce a pre-programmed sound. this allows drummers to play faster, because they can hit the drum extremely lightly and still produce a full sound.
the problem with triggers is that USUALLY they sound like utter dogshit, and produce a notorious, artificial sounding "clicking" tone.... although hellhammer sounds great on this recording, so i dunno why this was brought up

@HammarHeart Yes, you can play hitting the drums very lightly, but it's not cheating, they are necessary at high speed... Plus HH in some bands doesn't trigger his drums, neither the double bass...

@HammarHeart triggers DOESN'T allow you to play faster... Even if you can hit the drum head with less effort (that depends of the sensitivity you put on the trigger, because triggers sensitivity can be graduated to it's more comfortable to your playing...) you have to develop the technique and keep it up in time the song, that's more difficult. In live shows triggers are used to help drummers to save some stamina, pulling a 1 and half hour show it can be demanding to extreme metal drummers.

@rapechristian Exactly, you centre the point, period... Try to play hyper fast double bass parts or blast beats for one hour or more, it's completely devastating for your stamina... Triggers are simply necessary for extreme drumming, but they absolutely don't make you faster or better than you really are, period... Hellhammer is god, triggers or not... Plus he has show to everybody what a monster god he is in Winds, Shining and Age Of Silence without triggers...

el mayhem de ahora esta buenisimo es de otra dimension.pero tendria que volver blasphemer por que componen temas que al ultimo cd que sacaron no lo hacen totalmente copado!!! tendrian que tomar las riendas de temas viejos y volver al tipico loco estilo pero igual este tema no se sale del estilo que los califica pero los otros temas como que dejan que desear! pero me gusta esta banda no la cambio por nada ! aguante MaYheM \m/
