well sir. your experiences are a once in a life time deal. i am a cadet master corporal in canada and i hope to join the military in about 6 years. i have a great deal of respect for our veterans. thank you all for your service.
@trail624 HELLO! Listening to this video for the first time...my grandfather is the late Walter Chmara and am wondering if there is a relation! Do you have pic?
"Hi! It's me again!" Man I love everything about this guy. A true hero and inspiration. If I ever become half the man this guy was I think I'll be able to go my final resting place peacefully.
I was surprised to learn that some one as old as this man still lives. I know one other that is an actor, the man whom played for Alfred in Batman. Aside from age, I found it interesting to hear him speak and wondered if people could live for thousands of years. We would have our ancestors to tell us the truth about the past. It would interesting.
Yes I totally aree . Imagine the incredible tales we would hear . I could watch things like this 4ever . It motivates me . Matter of fact , ima go on a ruck hump now . Cyall later . - Always remember to strive to be great , even when greatness is not required - Robert L. Phillips

I know, most of the ww2 vets are dying, I wish I had a chance to talk to one. But I am glad that someone recorded this vet talking, talking about his experinces as a hero, god bless.
Men like this man and my grandfather were the strongest and greatest generation of people who have ever lived and will possibly ever live.
RIP to all the heroes of WWII who fought for a belief that our generation cannot even fathom. I only hope I can be in my 90's talking about my experiences.
This is a great video , i respect this man alot thank you for making the world safe agian , like i said before i cant stress enough that this man risked his life for me and u today thank you alot
Germany fought and lost because the whole world fought against them,man-man the germans had NO equal,i mean look at the stats they took all of europe, most of russia,a good deal of north africa single handedly!it took british empire, french empire, russian empire, and the USA to bring them down, they were awesome soldiers!
BUT there wasn't all Germans on the eastern front. There were in fact mostly men from occupied areas who had voulenteered for it, or had to. And besides, the soviets won the war. They managed to stand up for themselves and fight back the monsters that started it all.
r u mental? those ppl could not have formed more than 5%,most of the ppl on the eastern front were normal german soldiers
Anywayz i think my point is crystal clear, the soviets had 12 million soldiers killed fighting germany while for the whole war germany lost around 4.5(including the balkans western air sea),do the math numbskull!
You must have been blinded by Hitlers speaches even now you, nitt-twitt!
Can you explain Division Wiking? Was that 5% of the forces on the eastern front? No way! And how about Division Westland? Not all Germans there either. So I think that you should get a shrink, you modern Nazy-Errand-Boy!
PS: One more thing. In case you don't know, Hitler is dead! So stop being so goddamn blind! And do you honestly think that all those russians died in combat? Many died in prisoncamps! Bitch...
when did i say i liked hitler? i like only germany, germany is not equal to nazis, all german soldiers who fought were NOT nazis, what is the % of foreigners according to ur brilliant mind? 50%? provide me with some actual facts than just reeling out shit
Well, I haven't said that all Germans were nazis, I only say that YOU are. And reeling out shit? well, excuse me, but you can ask anybody here, who is the one reeling out shit! It must be you, you bloody scumbag! And yes, many German soldiers were actual heroes, but the leaders weren't! So, halt schnauze, du deine verdammte schweinehund!
ya know most of the german soldiers werent nazis... i cant remember the name but in ww1 at cristmas the british[i think] played soccer with the germans. the germans were quoted saying,'we dont want to fight with these men and not fight, we are just doin our duty of soldgiers.' that story might be rough around the edges but that is a true story... so realy the germans didnt want to... they had to
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Dickhead..If they were so unbeatable why didnt they try to cross that little bit of water called The English Channel and invade an island only defended by old men and boys! If you remember at that time no Americans, Russians or other nations were involved. Blitzkreig won against nations unprepared for war, they were a good army not superheroes!
i think its safe to say that we all apreciate you shareing your thoughts with us.. my grandad was born in 1916 and he is still going strong.. i always ask him about the past. he tells me when they saw the first car, and the first radio.. he also tells me about the germans when the germans invaded norway (where i live) and they were driving pazers and maching up the road were i live today. i find it quite amazing that we can go back in the past though the old generations still going strong
Hey!:D I come from Norway too=D My grandad weren't old enough to fight the war, but he did many things as a kid to the Germans. For example, he layed down nails along the road, and when the German motorbikes came along... :P Well, I let you do the thinking:D But nice to know other Norwegians find WW2 interesting:D Not very many do...
hehehe=D I wish I could do that when Adolf Hitler did his joyriding on MC;) (I know he most likely didn't, but DAMN it would have been awsome to see his reaction:D)
But the Germans lost the entire war, you smuck! And the Norwegian Royal Guard did some serious damage to the German elite forces at Midtskogen gaard where the Germans lost 14 soldiers and the Norwegian only got one man HURT, not killed. So, what do you think of THAT, Nazi-boy?
yeah right, germany lost cause the entire world ganged up against them,man-man germany was the best,i mean they conquered the whole of europe and most of russia and a good deal of north africa ALONE,it took the french, british, america and russian empire which basically includes the WORLD,in a war that invovlv
in a war invoving millions of soldiers it is easy to find a incident where the germans got slaughtered, but look at the casualty figs overall, the germans inflicted 6:! on the eastern front and 2.5:1 on the western front, even in norway the losses(total) were roughy equal

I personally strive to be like those who served and sacrificed themselves during this turbulent time. Thank you for your service. I unlike so many of those of MY generation am grateful for people like you. I doubt that there will ever be people that compare to the brave that fought and died for our rights that are being forfeited today under the guise of freedom
A REAL TREASURE!!! This is real history from a real American, you don't find this in books. I hope we see a lot more of these videos so the information will be available far into the future.
My father was born in 1900 and was only 16 when he joined the army in WWI! His syories were great and I need to get them on record for our three kids and soon to be 9 grandchildren! I could listen forever to these stories even though I have read very much & studied a great dealabout the war in college! THank you for shariong thes pearls!
wow this is very great... always great to hear about the past (my favorite era to learn about too) from someone who was in it first hand... a ton of respect towards you... thank you very much
People like you make me sick (Allenmurphy) People like you need smacked around a few times, respect the man, I know I do, he's my primary source on my project in U.S History... you got any stories like him? didn't think so.
This shit is amazing! Everyone over 80 should be on youtube preserving their life on video. The guy who owns the building that my office is in is 84 years old and fought in WWII. I'm going to coax him to put some of his experiences on video. Do the same with the elderly veteran you know.
Les, great videos. You mention 1919. I wonder if you could share with us any memories you have of the effects of the Spanish flu on your family and your town when you were a kid. How bad do you remember it being and where did you grow up?
My grandfather was a bomber pilot in the Pacific and a POW under the Japanese. Unfortunately, he died when I was little so I never got to know him or talk with him. Maybe now I can understand a little bit of what he experienced. You're videos are fantastic and I could listen to you talk all day about these things. Please keep them coming!
thanks Les, you're amazing- i'm going to watch all your videos
My grandfather was in the Pacific Arena, George Wiggins. He won't eat coconuts b/c they remind him of the smell of dead bodies. He won't talk about any of this, but I'm glad Les is. Everyone needs to understand our past.
@allenmurphy- i'd like to see some proof if you have any
This guy is a fake, hes not really 94 years old or whatever he says, hes actually an actor/ comedian. I jsut figured I'd tell everyone, but still what a great video
wow I'm glad you told us that, because at 17 years old you know so much already...I bet you wear your pants around your thighs and think it looks "cool" as well.
People like you make me sick... People like you need smacked around a few times, respect the man, I know I do, he's my primary source on my project in U.S History... you got any stories like him? didn't think so.
Thank you for sharing these stories will all of us. You help us realize how important our history is, and the people who make our history. Thank you Les.
I think I'll make a video of my grandfather. He was a p-38 and has many great stories. My favorite is when after seeing an opera in Italy He was flying back to base and Nazi pilot came up right beside him. My grandfather was to busy singing to notice until the Nazi was right there. The guy just saluted and then flew away off my gramp's wing into the distance. That pilot must have known he was on the wrong side.
This is what Youtube is about. Not tired old clips fromthe lame-stream media..but real works on real people. Great stuff. Only a few years left to record the views of every last Great Generation person. Keep it up.
PS: Youtube is going down the drain..they sensor so much now that it is nearly worthless. Now they want to have a deal with the ABC/CBS/NBC for content...Why? WE can see that junk on the real boob tube.
Agreed. But in today's world, youtube has to be profitable - so they make alliances with the "boob tube" groups. This way, they can keep it open for the rest of us to use for the good - like in this case.
I am 17 and always found it great to listen to an older person's life. You think they lived an average life and find out their real story. I hear another time and another way of life one that gave bitrth to my parents generation and eventuoly mine.
I love it when older folk embrace modern technology like this. Thank you for your generousity of spirit, seems to me everyone really appreciates the value of your experiences. Thanks
This was the greatest generation, god bless this brave soldier

Hello Gentlemen veterans!
Please could someone help in my search for a member from my family Chmara?
I do not know his name, just because I have the picture of him in the uniform of war at the time he was in Russia for three or four years.
He is the cousin of my late grandfather, Iwan Chmara born in 1907 in Ukraine, Zawyshen-Sokal.
Maybe, some detail of the uniform could provide some information on my search.
Sincerely,
Yuri Chmara

WE can see that junk on the real boob tube.
jack123456789034343 5 years ago
Agreed. But in today's world, youtube has to be profitable - so they make alliances with the "boob tube" groups. This way, they can keep it open for the rest of us to use for the good - like in this case.

The importance that these experiences not die with our veterans can't be stressed enough. Thank you so much for sharing with everyone.
