i will tell you this, yes the test isn't 100% accurate which is why it isn't administered in every state, but it is pretty accurate and only those who have studied how to fool it usually are capable of doing so. In most cases they are calm sadists whose emotions aren't stirred under the pressure of the test. While the test is not 100% accurate it still is GENERALLY a good indicator of if a person is telling the truth or not.
I don't really care for psychology, I'm more into neuroscience when it comes to understanding the brain. You know, actually scanning the brain and seeing it through x-rays, analyzing the synaptic patterns and the size of certain areas of the brain which could cause certain behavior etc. That is REAL science and is more reliable. In fact Neuroscience has led to brain surgery that can cure EXTREME cases of OCD for example, which psychologists have failed to do numerous times.

O'Reilly is a moron. Polygraphs are worthless. They're not admissible as evidence in a vast majority of jurisdictions, they're notoriously unreliable, and police frequently use them to convince a suspect to waive their Miranda rights and answer questions they wouldn't otherwise answer. That attorney was completely correct in advising Duckett not to submit to a polygraph.

They are highly ineffective and saying that it looks like she is desperate to hide the truth as a result of not taking it is just a statement made from your ignorance. Learn about the subject you're preaching on before you speak. At that moment her emotions were so unstable and unpredictable no accurate reading could have been taken. I have kids and I understand completely why she was acting the way she was.

by arousal i assume you mean nervousness, and yes it does. However, the polygraph works by measuring more than just heart rate, pores opening, and sweat, it also takes into account the state of mind. That woman wasn't sobbing CONSTANTLY, there had to have been times when she was calm enough to take the test properly. You may have kids, but you don't understand because you've never killed one of them. I suggest YOU read up more on the mechanics behind polygraphs and educate yourself.

No by arousal I mean excitement from lying. You know like if a person becomes sexually aroused. I am educated. I've taken numerous psychology courses and my wife has a B.S. in Psychology. The test is fundamentally flawed because other emotions can throw off the ability to measure this aroused state. If it was as precise as you think it should be it would be admissible in every state. Most cases that use this tool end up being repealed anyway. I think you're the one who needs educated.

i will tell you this, yes the test isn't 100% accurate which is why it isn't administered in every state, but it is pretty accurate and only those who have studied how to fool it usually are capable of doing so. In most cases they are calm sadists whose emotions aren't stirred under the pressure of the test. While the test is not 100% accurate it still is GENERALLY a good indicator of if a person is telling the truth or not.

I don't really care for psychology, I'm more into neuroscience when it comes to understanding the brain. You know, actually scanning the brain and seeing it through x-rays, analyzing the synaptic patterns and the size of certain areas of the brain which could cause certain behavior etc. That is REAL science and is more reliable. In fact Neuroscience has led to brain surgery that can cure EXTREME cases of OCD for example, which psychologists have failed to do numerous times.

No I'm saying in her brain it would have required her to produce the same type of nerve impulse and reflex that sexual arousal would for a lie detector to be able to accurately detect it. Since the average normal person and even most fucked up people don't feel that way when they lie, that is why that test is flawed. It has been shown in studies that the lie detector test can be as low as 37% in accuracy. Why don't you find a study that says its close to 100% and show us that.

No it wouldn't, nervousness due to fear of being caught and sexual arousal are two different impulses, they sometimes combine to enhance sexual pleasure, like when a naughty couple does it in public for example, the nervousness acts as a boost to their arousal, but the two are still separately detectable. I know enough to confidently tell you that it's based on nothing but theories and controlled experiments that almost always have different outcomes every time; I'm not even going to get into the methods of testing.
