Dude, I love your playing so goddamn much. Been watching your videos. I'm a drummer too and I hate to admit it, but I can hardly comprehend most of your licks. Most of it sounds like chaos, but you always hit the beats. I have never studied this type of drumming (seen some videos though), so I don't really know if you're just letting loose without time in mind but play while playing close attention the track, or if the stuff you're doing is technically on beat. Please let me know. Thanks man!
u sound a lot like mark guliana, kinda look like him...r u mark>?! hah jk, but dude ur playing is unbelievable! check out my vids if u like bro im 17, tryin to be as good as u, congrats
Ok man I love ur playing always have!! Actually one of my favorites!! I can tell who your influences are!! But come on man 2 vidz no shirt WTF.!! Leave Thomas P.. On that shit!!!!!!
You know I'm not even sure. It's my old college's set, but I want to say an old Slingerland? It is surprisingly a very nice kit in my opinion. Has some nice tones. I think Ed Shaughnessy used to use this very kit.
In a former comment of mine, I said it was a 5/4 - 13/8 groove, and it is true to a certain point of view, because I guess it would be easier to count it that way. On paper thought I would write it : 5/8 - 5/8 / 5/8 - 5/8 - 3/8. That said, that guy is one of my 2 favorite drummers. When do you play with Dave Holland, cool man ?...
i was wondering that too. i'm in the process of getting a gretsch set in these drum sizes (the catalina club jazz) but the catalina club has maple rims on the bass drum. so i have no idea what this is =(
It is not only 5/4, but 5/4 - 13/8 alternated. I really like the bass line, and moreover I think you are a very talented drummer. Your language is very developped, and your drumming is very precise. Love it, hope to hear you soon with some great musicians playing great music.
This is very nice what you do! Yet I don't think that's 5 time, yet I don't get the time... it sounds more like 9/8... but Im not sure... :P Very nice, though! Keep it up, man. Regards from Mexico.
I think those are doubles, I've been practicing it because of a GREAT 7/8 time groove played by Gabriel Puentes (I'll upload it, I guess). What I do is to practice paradiddles with cross-stick on the snare and the floor tom, it's terribly tyring, yet it's worth. Regards from Mexico.
Play the cross stick (LH) then keep the stick against the rim and play another stroke (RH) by hitting the stick on top with the other stick then kick drum. Play triplets L-R-F and 4's L-R-K-K let me know if this helps or you need me to post a vid.
Man...this is serious stuff! Your sound is great, your ideas are fresh, you rock in a very funky and crisp style...bravo! I couldn't probably do that...:-(
I love how you're not just all crazy fills, but you have a great groove and feel. And your playing is so dynamic and musical. I hope I could meet you some day and I can only hope to learn a Reese's Pieces size of what you do.
Place the left hand ghost notes on the Snare. Move your right hand between hat, toms, ride snare, whatever. Try adding a second kick with the right hand on the 1, this will give you two fast kick strokes. Play these as 16th, 16th triplets, and 32nd notes.

Sounds like 5/4 to me with the 3/4, but I wouldn't have been able to figure that out by listening--the 3/4 would have thrown me.
