Why would you take an expensive "show car" to Earl for a paint job? I worked for Earl in 1981. We were ordered to paint over dirt, mud, rust and tire valve stems (which would quickly rot the rubber causing the tire to go flat). One of the guys I worked with would steal anything of value from your car. One of the painters was a wino. You get what you pay for. You, my friend, are about as sharp as a bowling ball.
its about $2000 for a decent paint job and about $3000+ for a great paint job. Do you have any idea of how much labor is involved with painting a vehicle? It is a real pain in the ass therefore it costs a lot of money.
Nothing like making a video to show the world what a moron you are. Earl Scheib gives you exactly what you are paying for. You chose to be cheap and get a cheap Scheib job. Scheib has always been cheap, they used to paint cars for $29.95! You know what? It looked like a 29.95 paint job. Well, factor in inflation and there you have it. IT IS STILL CHEAP. You bought a cheap job and expected an expensive one? You, sir, are an idiot, as well as a cheapskate and a sore loser.
I am getting my car sprayed at Earl Scheib but 1. i'm not getting the $200 special, and 2. i'm doing all of the prep work and sanding myself. If you take a car in as-is condition to Earl Scheib and get the cheapie job, it will be shit. However, if you do all the prep work yourself and do a good job, talk to them for a while and show them you're serious, and spend at least $700, you will get a good paint job. I have had several friends with amazing paint jobs by Earl Scheib.
@gtdrummerdude And if you read many of the comments below (and other complaints about Earl Scheib paint jobs), you'll find people complaining about the paint peeling and falling off as if "they didn't even sand it". If you would have talked to the guys at the paint shop for more than 3 minutes before you threw hundreds of dollars at them, they would have found out that their paint packages DO NOT include sanding and prepping, just masking the trim etc.
@gtdrummerdude So you would be correct, they didn't sand it, because YOU didn't talk them enough and read your contract enough to understand what you were paying for and what services would and would not be performed before you handed them the keys, which is an even bigger problem in America than crappy paint jobs. EARL SCEIB'S PAINT PACKAGES DO NOT INCLUDE SAND AND PREP WORK. They may not even do it for an additional fee. As far as I know, you are on your own with sand and prep work.
@gtdrummerdude Earl Scheib actually uses decent quality paint, skilled automotive painters, and has a clean and professional shop/paint booth. 95% of how good or bad a paint job turns out is prep work which, again, they don't do. You need to spend a solid (at least) 10 hours stripping the trim off the car and sanding in several stages and then thoroughly cleaning the car. At that point, your Earl Scheib paint job will look beautiful and last a lifetime.
OMG! I can't believe that someone actually made a video about their dissatisfaction with an ES paint job!!! Guys like you are always trying to get the cheapest price on every damn thing and then you wind up with what you pay for!
And to take a classic car like that there for a paint job? You should have have your balls kicked.
Blah blah blah. Did you say Earl Shobe? Did you say you paid $600.00? Quit crying because no one in this country really cares. All these morons below making statements about suing and contancting the attorney General are even bigger idiots than you. Anyone in this country will tell you that Earl Sheib sucks! Hit the net Abdul, your just singing to the choir.
Hell I was washing my car awhile after it was painted by them with a regular hose and a huge section of the front bumper's paint blew off...upon closer inspection turns out they didn't even sand it.
Needless to say that because of them and others like them I now do all my own bodywork and have my own cross draft spray booth (no room for downdraft). To this day whenever I work on the car that they did work on I still deal with their incompetence. Only go to these guys if you plan on selling the car B4 the warrenty that they give you ends since that is what you are buying.
I figured they're about the same as Macco. Had a car redone by them after another shop F'd up the bodywork and custom kit. Entire car repainted by them 4times and still wasn't right....so much orange peel that after the car was waxed in spots the orange peel would still be filled with wax. I knew they sucked but never new it was that bad
Don't know where you're at on this, but no need to get an attorney. All you have to do is send your pictures, a written statement of your problem, copies of receipts and warranties and forward it all to the California Attorney General's office and your own State's Attorney General's office. Believe me, you'll get your money back real quick. Or, tell the shop your plans on contacting the Attorney General's office and see what they say. They'll normally pucker and give in.
Experience or talking out of your ass? A friend of mine had his BMW done at Scheib two years ago for under a grand and it still looks damn good. Not perfect since one of the reasons they are cheaper is that they do not wet sand unless you pay like $500 extra, but damn good for the price and guaranteed for 6 years. A good deal for a car that is a daily driver. Sure, some of their shops may be crap but some are actually run by professionals that know what they are doing.
yes,Earl Scheib, they have been around for ever. My friends and I were always under the impression that this company was "always" regarded as low quality. The type of place that questionable used car dealers use to put a fast, lousy paint job on a wreck to sell to someone. You are best off finding a small private body/paint shop to do the work...even if they cost more. Finding a good body shop is like finding a good doctor or good hair stylist. You have to do some research.
