  • It's still a piece of crap

  • Thinking I'd see a commercial here for the Chrysler LeBaron, the New Yorker did seem like a pretty cool car for its day; my grandparents actually had one before I was born they were telling me about - getting an Oldsmobile Cutlass in 1988 when its lease came out, followed by a blue Buick sedan in 1991, a Mazda 626 in 1994, followed by an Acura, and eventually a Lexus.

  • Too bad this one didn't have rich Corinthian leather!

  • Zee Plane boss! Zee plane!

  • R.I.P. Ricardo Monteblan

  • No Corinthian leather?

  • Apparently not, but it has a "quiet, lux-yoooo-rious ride."

  • Did these cars really get 35 MPG highway? Eh, 30, maybe. They cut as much weight from these cars as they possibly could. The 2.2L turbo made perhaps 125 HP.

  • my 81 lebaron weighs 4895lbs curb and still gets 20 mpg. even with its slant. slants are awesome.

  • Your lebaron does not wiegh 4895lbs that would make it heavier than my 78 Tbird you would be getting 8 mpg.

  • Actually it does. It says so right on the little label inside the door. Do not speak on those things of which you know little, my friend.

  • Actually the heaviest 1981 LeBaron, the 5.2 V-8 station wagon only weighs 3,634 lbs.

What you are looking at is the gross vehicle weight rating - the maximum recommended driving weight of your LeBaron carrying 6 people, a full tank of gas, and a fully loaded trunk/cargo area.

  • No, they didn't. At some point in the '90's the EPA changed how they rated MPG and it reduced claims across the board. Of course, it's only been in the past two or three years that ratings have reappeared in car advertising.

  • no the 2.2l turbo had 150 hp

  • It was actually 146 hp. I owned an Ice Blue 1987 New Yorker turbo.

  • oh ok then my 1988 dodge 600 sedan with 2.2l turbo must have 146 hp then thanks do you still own your new yorker turbo???

  • I gave it away 2 years ago, the head gasket blew . I currently have a 1993 Imperial V6 with 78k on it.

  • nice imperials are really nice i like the ones from the 90s and one more thing why is this commercial listed at the top as a Chrysler lebaron commercial??? its not a lebaron its the 1984 chrysler new yorker lol

  • those 90's Imperials were so ugly

  • @somewhatlongdong I know right!! I was almost thinking of it the same way (it's like romans boring taxi in gta4). But just recently I've began seeing it in a new light, It's like the scion Xb. It's sooo ugly and boxy, that it starts crossing back over into looking interesting and cool.

  • @jakesaintsrow123 It was 146hp. My grandma had a 1987 Dodge 600 SE Turbo with the same engine.

  • I cum a little harder everytime I see a Ricardo Montalban car ad that I haven't seen before.

  • KHHHAAAAANNNNN!

    KHHHAAAAANNNNN!

  • My thoughts exactly. Captain Kirk in a Taurus, chasing down Khan in a LeBaron!

  • It might have been quite a weird approach (the look of a fullsize tank planted upon a compact 4-pot front driver) but Lee Iacocca, and the overall K-car program is what saved Chrysler from certain extinction!

  • Montalban then starts bragging on the cassette player in the car, and Bill Shatner walks up with a stack of tapes and says, "Well, Ricardo..we have Billy Joel, Air Supply, Genesis..."

    Montalban interrupts.."GEEVE ME GENESIS!!!".

  • Very funny :) But - it was Commander Kruge (Christopher Lloyd) who said "GEEVE ME GENESIS!!" in Star Trek 3, if I'm not mistaken!

  • No, Khan asks for it too. He should be selling the Reliant, since that's the name of the ship he hijacked.

  • Hey!!! Was Chaka Khan in that stack of tapes??

  • KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!

  • Right!

  • Watch AZp7uekTd20!

  • I just found one! It's all about the Cordoba! Ricardo works his magic, too. Should be right beside this video. Thanks!

  • Ultimate SLEEPER!!!

  • Any Cordoba ads with the reech Coreenthian leather?

  • But that is a Chrysler New Yorker =)

  • the K car convertible was nice. I have a 1986 and a 1984 Chrysler Lebaron conv and I love both! I kno what the other poster was saying about the 80's era shrunken Cadillacs as being somewhat tacky at first!

  • wow!! thank you!!

  • I love 80's era Chryslers (I own an '89 Lebaron), but I've always thought these small Lebaron sedans were really tacky. The only car manufacturers that seem to be able to make truly appealing small luxury cars are the Europeans. For whatever reason, Americans don't pull it off well. Remember the small late-80's Cadillacs? Tacky.
