  • This demo vid sold me on buying one that I found locally for $200. Kind of a poor man's PPG (has a couple of waves from those wavetables - most notably #14 and the same filter chips), and this is coming from an owner of two Wave 2.2s. Try one if you can find one - and make sure to get a K3m as a polyphony expander. Very simple to program and surprisingly versatile for "digi-log" sounds. Just don't expect the same brightness or sharp envelopes of those German beasts - can be very warm though.

  • Jesus, you fuckin blow.

  • I have never seen a Kawai K3, however, I had a Akai AX80 back in 1986. This Kawai K3 very much reminds me of the Akai Ax80. Were these two fairly simular ? By the looks of the interface, it even looks a ( Little ) simular to the AX80.

  • I love your Videos. I own a K3m and its one of my favorit Synths.

    Keep it up!

  • I've got one in the corner of my room covered in 3 years of dust and this demo is why.

  • I have one sitting behind me as I type this. Its still reliable and great sounds.

  • Great demo of this synth. I have had a K3 for 5 years now and will never sell it. It's built like a tank and weighs a tonne. I use it in about 75% of my music recordings. See Autumn Rain on My Channel its all K3

  • @xj900man Oh apart from some guitar :)

  • sounds beautiful

  • Fantastisc demo, just bought a K3M because of this hahaha.

  • amazing vid man, totally convinced me to buy the k3. much thanks, i love it! seriously, best demo i've watched - you really show what this thing can do.

  • Yeah, its sounds like a JX-8p a bit.... Better though than the JX-10. Fucking Rad Demo!

  • beautiful machine. Amazing VID

  • This thing is capable of making the most haunting string pads. I have both the keyboard K3 and the rackmount K3M, I midi them together to get a 12-voice polysynth in 'overflow' mode. Every bit as good as a Roland Super JX or MKS70.

@brofjw - You can get the modwheel effect by going into edit mode, selecting LFO/osc and then turning the alpha dial. Would have been nice if they included a mod wheel, but oh well, you can't have it all.

  • best vids on youtube

  • How do you get the effect of a modwheel on a K3? I don't see one. Is it some separate Kawai-explicit control?

  • 5:28 is a great patch!

  • hey guys i have had this keyboard for a while and for the life of me i cant figure out this memory unit business. So if someone could please help me, it would be much appreciated.

  • I love mine even though it has smashed keys from the braindead bastard who shipped it to me. I need to replace some capacitors inside it though, there's a bit too much power supply hum.

  • Looking forward to receiving mine next week. Super cool video, skills + production value = excellence!

  • The refresh rate of the video versus that of the LED display on the K3 is mesmerizing.

  • 8:46 is the eerie string sound from Halloween then it turns into something beautiful. Great demo as always.

  • by far,the best demos on youtube!!thank you very much for posting!

  • 6:23 is epic! You make the best synth demo vids :)

  • i just got mine. its a really dope keyboard. easy to program. I wish it had a mod wheel though. why is the korg z1 the only keyboard with x-y pad? so lame. thats the dopes t feature ever. every synth should have one!

  • @kekenalii Roland V-Synth has an XY pad. Although it's dual purpose on the V-Synth. More controllers than you need.

  • i just bought one...sweet.

  • congratulations man, brilliant performance

  • I'm a big fan of Kawai. Almost always underrated. In a way that's good because Kawai gear can be found cheap. I have a K5M. K4r and a K3M. All have their own distinct characteristics. The K3 is very easy to program and a hell of a synth in it's time.

  • Is that a picture of the Krakow city square in the intro?

  • The K3 is one of the most underated synths on the planet;it can do beautiful pads, weird boards of canada drones and leads, sfx's really gritty dirty bass(I have shook the tiny window in my vocal booth with the bass this produces). If you see one of these for sale grab it immediatley because one day they are going to be desireable.

If this had mood on it it would go for a fortune;Great synth trust me get one.

  • I need the name of track, that starts at 04:48

  • fuckin shit

  • this video is CRAZY good. damn. i mean really. long live Poland and its geniuses!

  • Is it true that the VCF chips in the K3 are SSM2040's?

  • It's SSM2044. Opened mine just now to check :) The oscillators in this thing sucks at low frequencies, but it can do some nice stuff, and it was dirt cheap.

  • i got one of these for 30$s today. everything works! really fun synth

  • 30 dollars...good deal man

  • I got you beat, a colleague of mine at work gave me one for FREE last year... along with around 7 other old synths, all free! I was amazed. Apparently a fellow he used to work with passed away and this fellow's wife asked my friend to come pick up all of his old midi equipment. He never ended up using it and never had the time to get into it. So he gave it all to me. Among them was a TX-7 and D-110 rackmount, all in almost perfect condition.

By the way, nice demo Jexus, very tasteful.

  • niiice! im still waiting for one of those days B)

  • i hate you

  • 2:10 -"Trans-X - Living on Video"..;-D

  • masterpiece..

    ..respect

  • I really like what you do with "forgotten" machines. Shows that we don't need a Moog or Jupiter8 to make good sounds.

  • Hey man,

First of all, this video got me to buy the k3. really awesome synth.

I got one quick question, do you know the dimensions of the synth, as i would like to build a flightcase for it.

    thanks a bunch

  • huge jexus fan here.what the HELL is that rift at 8:18 ????? I just got to know what that rift is.

  • Dude love your music .......i play a lot like you do .......you must be a person with huge creativity. This type of music comes mostly from nowhere and thats what i loke about it. It is very bad that it sounds outdated tho. xcellent by me.

  • The K3 is an amzing synth its is so underated.I use it for making strange background textures for my music.

Yes I learned the hard way when I picked the synth up to move it and put too much pressure on the keys....SNAP!!!!one of the keys snapped I was gutted.

    Great synth and great vid.

  • Don't get carried away with the aftertouch when drunk on the keys... they crack off. I learned the hard way.

    Love your videos as always.

    JUGEL from VSE. banned.

  • demo is great, vid too -- thanks!

  • the k3 is a strange beautiful synth... IMO the best features of this machine are 1)the lfo (7 waveform, and the 'chromatic random' waveform, i.e. sample & hold, is fantastic); 2)the filter; 3)the built in chorus (very good, but only presets...); 4)the additive user waveform (did you succeed in creating some cool waveform? it's really hard)... btw, good work jexus

  • I have a K3 for sale if anyone is interested.

  • how do you get a sample and hold on it????

p.s. how is the lcd fading in and out??? thats sick

  • The LED aren't fading, the "scan rate" in the synth is about 25 Hz, close to recording frame rate, so when frame refresh matches LED refresh they look blank.

  • haha thats weird

btw know how to do sample and hold??

  • the chromatic random waveform in the lfo -> 'sample & hold' effect

  • How do you get that 80s effect for your videos?

Is it the camera or your video editing?

  • Haw haw, Rambo: First Blood and Adamski's Killer. This guy is too fucking cool.

  • Very good Jexus, AGAIN!!!

but what is that strange chip thing in the synth??

  • If you are talking about the small silver square in the upper left, that is the external RAM cartridge. It provides storage for an additional 50 patches, I believe.

  • there are not usely curtis filter chips, but the rare ssm 2044,i mean you find them too in korg polysix and poly 61.

  • the only thing I don't like is the absence of mod wheel but good sound for an 1986 wavetable Synth.

  • Another good video from Jexus. Even on a machine, with only 1 knob, he manages to make it sing. I would love to see him rip on a Prophet 5.

  • Jexus rocks, plain and simple.

  • chwila nieuwagi a mógł być mój. piepszyć allegro... wszystko piepszyć.

  • I've seen good reviews of this synth, but this demo kills them. One of the worst synths I've heard jexus demoed thus far.

  • I have one of these, and I dont know why I've never sold it. In my opinion the synth is just really lifeless.

  • ok if your going to tread into full on digital territory id love to see what youd do with a JV-1080. i cant be alone on this one can i?

  • "Living on Video" @ 2:15 :D

  • I've been unsuccessfully trying to get a mint K3 for the past 2 months. But I recently got a Microwave XT so I dont feel too bad. Wavetable synthesis is untouchable.

  • haha the living in a video part was fantastic :>

  • Very GOOD!

  • amazing

  • Incredible. Inspiring.

  • very nice, thanks

  • Keep em' coming!

  • killer!

  • wow, this is unique from all the other synths you demo Eg. Korg, Roland ect.

i like how you always pick the strangest synths and demo them...and the random explosions and helicopters were cool as well.

    well done Jexus.

  • Hey Dave! Didn't know you were a big fan of Jexus aswell hehe. All the videos are ace, I enjoy them alot. This one is no exception. Love the riffs and sounds combined with the synth classics.

  • heheh don't be so happy .... somebody of us was here before U ..so keep your eyes open next time :-)))

  • #1 fan, #1 comment. ACES!
