I love this version of this song plus me being Scottish this means so much to me, I have played this well over 50 times probably nearing 100. Well sung and beatifully played, I wish I had this on CD.
The composer of this song was John Cameron (1822-1898). He had disembarked from the Glasgow steamer near Ballachulish ferry and composed his song while walking towards his home (called White House) at Glencoe harbour. You can see the scene in Dunach1 on YouTube.
The tune to his song was played on the White House lawn by the Black Watch pipe band for President Kennedy a few days before his assassination.
Thanks for that information! I love this song, and I didn't know its background. I always enjoy learning interesting historical information about wonderful folk songs.
Lovely rendition of this beautiful old Scottish song. Has always been one of my favourites. I thought of posting it but I don't know if I would do it justice.
Thanks so much for your kind comments! The lyrics and sentiment of the song are so beautiful that I'm surprised it's usually played as a tune instead of sung.
I really like your voice and your version of this song. I sing this song in both English and Scottish Gaelic and recorded it on one of my CD's. I really love your arrangement. A pleasure listening to you Thanks, Leza in Dallas

I play the bagpipes, and I have to admit that this version is just as good as a bagpipe solo. Wornderful voice, best sung version there is.
