@GreenFrankenstein yes. and Brady had a much better cast when he won those superbowls in the early 2000s than he has now. The point I was trying to make is that teams win superbowls, not quarterbacks alone.
Yo soy quarterback en Mexico algun dia me gustaria ser como Dan Marino :D saben si exista algun video donde Dan Marino de consejos a los quarterbacks?
@rygu79 Agreed,No one could throw the ball like dan marino. The greatest passer and probably a once in a life time type of talent. To say the best ever is a toughy though.
when nfl network was doing the best 100 players and they had brady ahead of marino even rod woodson said he played against both and there was no comparison because marino was so much better and if dan had some of the rules they have now to help the passing game he would have gone even more crazy against defenses.
Any Quarterback who throws 3 int is asking to lose... most of the time its not as you say bounces off the receiver.. THAT IS THE ONLY TIME its not the QB's fault. If a QB misread the coverage it is HIS FAULT, if a quarterback threw to a receiver running the wrong route its HIS FAULT dont throw there. Marino can't blame his D, if teams have been able to win with a Bad D, Marino's greatness should have pulled through at the end... if he was really that great... just separates the good from the bes
@missionbears OMG- please learn more about what recievers do in the NFL. If a reciever for example sprints 15 yards down the field then cuts left and the QB/off cordinator called for a deep pass and he releases the ball deep and gets a INT you would blame the QB!?!?! Recievers play a huge roll in the INT department. Sometimes they help by deflecting an ugly pass too. QB's are to look off the D to hold the safties, then return for a pass anticipating where the reciever is to be.
@AmazingQB It is always the QBs fault because he should understand that the receiver was not running the right route. Look nobody told the QB to throw to that direction, it is ALWAYS the qbs fault. Again who initially threw the ball? u cant reason your way out of this... the QB throws the int his fault for choosing to throw there. QB job is to call the play, and to make sure everybody knows their assignments, as the leader they are solely to blame. WE HAVE LEADERS for a reason.
@missionbears I soooo disagree with you- but that is ok. If you have been watching Peyton Manning these past few weeks, you'll see what happens when you have recievers running incorrect routs. He's had like a billion int's recently. His regular play makers are gone. The timing routs are differn't. Manning has to pay attention more where the reicevers are going now- and that allows the D to read him more. You just don't seem to get it. Why do you think QB's get made at recievers?
@AmazingQB receivers get mad at quarterbacks too, it shouldn't matter if manning had no play makers be quick with your decisions. Tom Brady has no play makers, he has no deep threats and he is on track to win MVP. His best weapon is Wes Welker right now. Compared to Reggie Wayne Peyton shouldnt be complaining. It is his fault for throwing 9int in like the last 3 games. Peyton is so good he should be able to play with moderate talent like brady is.
@missionbears Wow! Really!?! What Peyton does vs Brady is entirely differn't. The colts off is very specialized as a no huddle offense with audiables more than anymore. If his team hasn't worked with him for awhile, they will not understand him. You must not be watching many Colts games lately. But hey- I think we have said what needs to be said. I love the NFL. So enjoy whatever it is and blame whoever you want. We couldn't disagree with each other more. lol.
@illman300 You would rather have Wes Welker over Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Greg Jennings, Larry Fitzgerald, Roddy White? Wes Welker is in no possible way the best WR in the NFL, just cause he has big numbers doesn't mean anything, Brandon Lloyd had a HUGE year last year and NOBODY considered him the best wide receiver in the NFL. Welker is small, slow, and he has decent hands but not great hands. You really think Welker would be successful the way he is in another system?! dreaming
@missionbears lol its not his only big season...fitzgerald and calvin johnson are the only people on the list better than him. and it doesnt matter if he wouldnt succed in another system, which you cant know if he would, facts are what matter, and fact is hes top 5 easily...brady does make more of less than manning but dont underrate welker and ride bradys dick like he can make nobody into an all pro...manning is the better qb overall but hes a choker so id rather have brady on my team
@AmazingQB Manning's problems have never been receivers not running the routes - he and Marino consistently blew their reads when they started to freeze up. Marino also would openly point fingers at the O-line instead of take responsibility for blowing the read.
Football is a team game. If you watched any of those games and I followed Marino for his entire career. He had sub-par receivers later in his career and the Defenses were like revolving doors to a hotel. He had to out score teams week in and week out, yet every year they had a shot because of him. You put Elway, Favre or Montana on any of his teams and they would not make the playoffs let alone be over 500 at the end of the year. All of the supposed "Great" quarterbacks had a great cast.
@Inspekta6 Well, Idk if the QBs you mentioned would've finished under 500 there.
I think they would've had the same success as Marino, which was playoffs, but nothing more really. I'm not trying to downgrade Marino, just trying to give Favre, Montana, and Elway deserve as well.
I do agree that unless that outside of some good route runners and an amazing offensive line, Marino did not have anything to work with during his early tenure with the Dolphins, and afterwards had less.
@Inspekta6 The lies to defend Marino should have been banned.
FACT - Marino would begin freezing up in truly big games - especially the playoffs.
FACT - Marino would blow his reads and throw to the wrong spot.
FACT - Marino would point fingers at teammates for HIS mistakes.
FACT - Marino had more than adequate receivers, line support, and defense to win titles - he never won a title because he was the one blowing the game.
You have never played football then even at a highschool level. If you have pressure then as a QB you should know where your one on one matchups are before u hit the line PERIOD. Thats where you go if there is heat on you. Brady knows this outs cause he works with slots WR, and peyton works with his X AND Y wrs, 2 different styles each effective in his own. To Blame everything on the QBS is moronic. Look at ELI last season, the first 6 ints were off his WRs hands!!!
@missionbears how many teams with bad defenses have won superbowls? Also, consider Marino's placement on the NFL top 100; he rated far higher than Troy Aikman (3 superbowls), Terry Bradshaw (4 superbowls), and Steve Young (1 superbowl). THis list was compiled in large part by players. Shouldn't players have the most clout in saying who is elite and who is not?
@MrJack83124 This list was complied by hall of fame voters, and most of the hall of fame voters are sports writers. Marino is this high because his numbers and his wins, Marino held alot of records in his career. The Colts won without a mediocre defense, The St Louis Rams had a bad defense, The Denver Broncos
@missionbears I wouldn't say Denver had a bad defense...and the Colt's defense was good when actually defending against the pass. They just had a poor rushing defense; that defense was built specifically to maintain leads. THe point is, most teams who end up winning the superbowl have strong defenses. Consider Tom Brady. He won 3 superbowls early in his career, and he hasn't won since. Would you say that his skills have declined? If anything, I'd say he's gotten better.
@MrJack83124 Tom Brady doesnt throw 3 interceptions in the superbowl or a playoff game... That is the point I want to exaggerate, Marino threw 3 interceptions in his first superbowl appearance, how is that any part the defense's fault? And Colts did have a poor defense, they couldn't stop the run at all which would be considered not strong. Rams are still the premier example of a team not needing a defense
@missionbears Marino only threw two interceptions in that game plus he threw the ball 50 times..which makes it all the more likely you'll turn the ball over. Thats all the dolphins could ever do is throw the ball, there was no running game, no defense. So all opposing defenses had to do was shut down the passing game and that eqauted to a win. Put brady on that dolphin team and brady isn't the legend he is today. IMO
The greatest quarterback I've ever seen.I know people say Montana,Elway, and Favre accomplished more, but I still would take Marino anytime I needed a quick score.
Defense wins SuperBowls not QB's. I did some research to prove my point. Since 1970 we have had 40 SB wins. For Defense, 24 were in the top 5, 33 were in top 10 and only 5 out of 40 had a bad D. For you conspiracy nuts, the 9/11 "Patriots" and the "feel bad for New Orleans" teams had the worst Ds of the SB winners since 1970. (ranked 24 and 25). As a fan of NFL QB's these stats are hard to argue. Great QB's don't win SBs.
@AmazingQB those rankings are done by yards allowed though... the patriots first victory their defense allowed the fewest points and the saints led in takeaways.
@missionbears I know I simplified it. But it is interesting just looking at yards allowed. As for leading in takeaways, shouldn't that team for the most part allow less yards?
@AmazingQB No, a team that leads in takeaways does not necessarily mean less yards. Like if a team drives 90 yards on them on every drive but at the red zone they get a redzone. If that happens really frequently then the team by the NFL ranking system be ranked like 25th
@missionbears True, but for an entire season, I think it should still help the D in allowing less yards since the D is giving the ball back to the O. Again, yards allowed isn't the be all end all of D stats, but it is interesting to note that teams that win the SB always seem to lead in the category.
@AmazingQB what determines a good defense is points allowed in my opinion that should be the only thing that matters for a defense. If they wanted to really rank defenses they should onyl do by points allowed. That speaking patriots first superbowl they had a great defense
@missionbears I'm curious if someone did the reasearch for the past 40 plus superbowls how those teams ranked in points allowed? Again, I find it interesting that of the past 40 SB champions, 33 were in the top 10 and over half were top 5. QB's such as Dan Marino never really had a team with a great D.
@AmazingQB that is no excuse... a good offense should overcome a good defense. If your offense was good enough to get you to the superbowl it should have been enough to win it. The fact of the matter is the best teams are not the ones that goes to the superbowl every year. Since the playoff system is 1 game elimination one bad call or one bad day can cost the best team the shot at the superbowl. Dan Marino has nobody to blame. In his first superbowl he threw 3 picks he is to blame
@AmazingQB Dan Marino a man praised as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time would throw 3 interceptions in a superbowl? I dont care how superior 49ers D was, Marino should have been able to power through it. It is not entirely Marino's fault but he should as the leader and playmaker should take like 70% of the blame. HE threw those interceptions nobody else
@missionbears Crazy... I mean really- it's a team sport. Are you saying that QB's that have been on teams that won a SB are better than Marino?! Really!?! Are you saying the QB is the be all end all of team wins?! Really!?! Int's can be because of a lot of things. 49ers had a better team than the Dolphins did.
@AmazingQB I am saying in every superbowl we say its a team sport but more than half the time the QB wins the superbowl MVP. Why do we have a superbowl MVP it its a team sport? I am saying if a Quarterback throws 3 interceptions in one game, you are asking alot from your defense to stop the opposing offense from scoring off YOUR turnovers. The better team does not always win... Giants vs Patriots, patriots vs rams, Giants vs Buffalo, Marino had a chance he threw 3 picks its his fault they lost
@missionbears I understand- MVP is still just one player. It's a team sport period. Even the offense isn't all QB. O-line, Running game, recievers blocking, running correct routs. I mean it's hard to say a INT is the QB's fault. A Defense could disrupt a passing route. All I'm saying is that teams win SB's and it's seems the teams who allow less yards throughout a season win the big one. We could sit and argue more specifics and both be right. I still believe D is more important than QB.
@AmazingQB INT is ALWAYS the QBs fault dont ever confuse that. Who threw the ball? The defense is important, but a strong O should beat a good D. Your yards statistic is nice and all but what's wrong with it is, if that was true every team with the top defense should be in the superbowl and they arent. Kurt Warner and the Greatest show of turf won with a bad D. In fact the idea that "defense wins championships" is one of the NFL's top ten Myths
@missionbears INT is not ALWAYS the QB's fault. Are you kidding me? really? OMG!!! Recievers run wrong routs, recievers have balls bounce off them etc. Bad O or better D line will put pressure on the QB. Crazy to blame the QB for every INT! And Kurt Warner SB champs had a top 10 D. Again, total yards isn't the be all end all of stats- but it does seem interesting- to me, that 33 of 40 SB's had a top 10 D.
@missionbears The Marino rumpswabs want to stay in denial. They don't want to accept that Marino would freeze up in the playoffs, blow his reads, force the ball, and then start pointing fingers when things went wrong.
@AmazingQB Let me ask you this do you think its Rich Gannon's fault that Oakland lost the superbowl? He did throw like 4-5 interceptions. Any defense that just watches the offense throw away the ball to the opposing defense hurts your mentality hurts your effectiveness and belief in your team. if a quarterback throws 3 ints dont matter how good a team is your likely to lose the game, unless your defense is like the early BEARS. As the LEADER the QB needs to hold more blame then any other player
@missionbears QB and coach will take most credit and blame. But teams on the NFL have soooo many players. Special teams, D, O, play calling, it's crazy. I love it. And yes, a QB can ruin your day with a INT, just like a fumble. But so many things put QB's in situations. No running game and/or gread run D can make the QB predictable. To me, Marino was one of the greatest QB's ever. Being on a team that didn't win the SB isn't telling of his ability.
That shootout between Marino and O'Brien on 9/21/86 will always leave an indelible mark in the Jets fans' minds. For at least one day, Kenny would outgun Danny in the NFL history records book. If you take a closer look at the precise bullet O'Brien aimed at Walker, it actually passed through at least 2 Dolphins DBs in the air before reaching Wesley's hands for a slide-in TD. I don't know how many great QBs would be capable of doing it. Marvelous competition!
Show the entire "mechanics" from "heart of a champoin" that would be fantastic! I remember the Jets Miami the afc was the best ever I dont care if they won superbowls are not!
The afc did have all the best qbs in the 80s and early 90s.Like the top 8
and trent dilfer has more super bowls than this guy. what a shame

Again, total yards isn't the be all end all of stats- but it does seem interesting- to me, that 33 of 40 SB's had a top 10 D.

@AmazingQB Correction- the Kurt Warner Rams team was one of the 7 teams that didn't have a top 10 D.

@AmazingQB simple solutions...
Do not throw to a wide receiver who appears to be running wrong route there are 3 other options
Bad o line than throw the ball away, the O-line is not going to break down every single play... go to quick throws if they are blitzing.
stop looking at yards... even defenses dont worry about yards... its all about the points allowed
By your logic the team with the Best D should make the superbowl every year, but it dosent happen. THE QB threw the ball...

@gsw88888 Ken O'Brien and Dan Marino were some the NFL's best passers of all time. 9/21/86. NFL record 927! passing yards and 10 TDs in one game!
