  • I LOVE IT! AWESOME!ENCORE! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • This is a very "macabre" video. =p

  • @giftbasketer2

Lay off the 'herbs', Bubba. Smoking funny cigarettes does that to some people.

  • @likekinds Hmm...let's see now: "macabre" = gruesome, ghastly, lurid, horrible, grisly, terrible, suggesting the horror of death and decay, suggesting something that is very strange and unpleasant because it is connected with death or violence. Did I just watch the video above?? Seriously now,.......Eileen

  • Like a lot of people, I get quite sentimental listening to great Bert Kaempfert songs like this. I grew up in the late 60s and 70s listening to BK records my dad played on the stereo, and to this day never tire of listening to them.

  • We slow danced the night away in junior high at the local dances. Great memories of a simpler time.

  • That cup muted Trumpet always gets me.

  • @TheTrumpetStudent

    Nice, ain't it?

  • This was the theme song for my Junior/Senior Prom in 1961, my junior year. I will never tire of hearing it...so beautiful

  • Thank you Mr. Thomas Edison.

  • Is this Manfried ( sp? ) Moch on trumpet?

  • @Nabokov50

    Hope this helps:

    DECCA (45 RPM Label> 9-31141>(DGG 24 086) A>WONDERLAND BY NIGHT>Instrumental Trumpet Solo By Charly Tabor

    BERT KAEMPFERT AND HIS ORCHESTRA

Recorded In Europe By Deutsche Gramaphone/Polydor ® Series

    Released 1960

  • @Nabokov50 No, it's Charlie Tabor. I've been listening to this song for 50 years and just now found out who the soloist is. I always knew that Bert wasn't the trumpet player on this cut.

  • @rodrigozuniga45

You are right. It's Charlie Tabor. However, on the (45 rpm) label of this particular recording, his first name was misspelled as 'Charly'.

  • this song peaked at # 5 on the R&B charts in 1961( #1pop).nice instrumental.

  • Without a doubt one of the best instrumentals of all time. Certainly a very favorite of mine.

  • my last name is burkemper. i always thought the barenaked ladies song said "burkempers got the mad hits....".

  • Magnificent!! Nothing like to listen to a Masterpiece.

  • It's a classic for certain.

  • I love the way BK arranged for the human voice - just wonderful.

    Thank you for posting.

  • A fantastic instrumental, no doubt about that. It is pure delight to listen to. So beautiful. Thank you for this post.

  • @0917gva

    Thanks, Gayle

  • I was a young kid in Mannheim Germany when this was big. At the time I wanted to be an American. I became a USA citizen Feb25, 2011. This song has special meaning to me.

  • @MrHansglueck

I hope you have a wonderful life as an American citizen.

    Thank you

  • @likekinds Interesting...I grew up in America(USA) and can't wait to become an ex-patriot in Latin America. Of course I'll be bringing all of my Bert Kaempfert LPs with me!

  • @HunterMann

I grew up on Earth. There's nowhere else i can go..... at least for now.

Smart move, taking Bert's music with you.

  • ZOEJANINAH, I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER, I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL I'M 66 AND I REMEMBER THOSE BASEMENT PARTIES WITH OUR LITTLE GROWD, COKE FOR THE DRINK, CHIPS, PRETZELS, AND OTHER SNACKS, SO LAY BACK, GIRLS AND GUYS AND YEA EACH WAITING FOR THE FIRST TO DANCE, THEN WE DIDN'T GET OFF THE FLOOR..GREAT MEMORIESM WHERE DID THEY GO ZOE...JIM DILKS DELAWARE dilks-james@comcast.net

  • @body0guard Thanks for your comment....Those memories will be with us for ever, as long as we keep young at heart and want to feel again as we felt when we were teenagers.... and relive once and once more what takes us back in time to make us feel new, untouched by the wrongs in life, and hopeful that our lives will be better if we try....

  • Hauntingly beautiful, delightful in it's inate simplicity. So smooth and easy, it brings a lump to the throat.

    Thanks Bert!

  • やさしい夜遊びのエンディング曲これだったんだ!

    めちゃめちゃいい曲!!!!!

  • @sas1978arinamo

  • We grew with this,, My Uncle talked about seeing him play in a POW camp in Germany, He was with the Greman Navy, What a fine man, all he wanted to do is write and play his music. Bless you Bert Kaempfert Your music will live forever

  • This unforgettable music touches my heart and my soul and took me straight to my adolescent years, when we would make little parties at home, and danced to recorded wonderful music such as this one, had coke for refreshments, and corn chips, potatoe chips, french onion dip and finger sandwiches . The girls were on one side of the living room and the boys on the other side, pretending to be too busy, so as not to show how nervous they were to ask us "would you dance with me"?

  • @zoejaninah .

First you made me hungry. Then you made me wish I could relive some of the days gone by. Thanks for sharing your very nice memories with us.

  • As a kid growing up in NYC I remember my dad playing a lot of Bert Kaempfert's music. I have very fond memories of Wonderland By Night, Afrikaan Beat, and other instrumentals by Bert. Good stuff.

  • @peretz48 .

    I've collected a lot of Bert's music. You're right. It's good stuff.

    Thank you.

  • Wonderful music ..

  • @australianfan .

    I agree.

  • My parents used to play this LP on their gramophone player which smelled of dust and polished wood. That smell comes straight back to me as I listen to this.

  • @ab37z .

You're comment is very interesting. Thank you.

  • @ab37z

I hear you on that, ab37z. Fond memories from long ago.

  • How great it must be to be able to create music like this.

  • @KnightVow

Absolutely. Germany and the whole world loves Bert's music

  • My Uncle was with the 29th inf Div, He saw and heard Bert Kaempfert who at the time was a POW. He said all the troops loved him and his music. these were passed down to us, Thank you for posting this and may God bless Bert Kaempfert.

  • @brad04970

Thank you for sharing your story with us.

  • Muted horns have never been played better than in this piece.

  • Muito linda essa musica. Me faz voltar na infãncia.

  • @danielcecilio21

    Thank you, Daniel!

  • Bien qu'il existe des mots à cette chanson la plus belle, je serai toujours le préfère comme il est: obsédante, mélodique, et merveilleux!

  • My mom used to sing to us this song as our lullaby music, Now I did to my own kids too!

  • I guess I was a nerd. This was my favorite song in 1959/60. I played the trumpet and my friend across the street played trombone in the junior high school band. It would have been so cool if we could play with/for Bert.

  • @Bozos77

It's fun to look back and think 'what if'. I'm sure you and Bert would have had a lot of fun together.

    Thanks

  • this song make you want to dance cheek to cheek with your woman then cuddle and kiss!!

  • Beautiful song. I heard it last summer at a park/zoo in St. Louis owned by Anheuser-Busch. I'd forgotten just how great this song sounded.

  • i remember my Uncle playing his records around the house. Mr Kampfert was a POW durning WW11. He would play for the Americans. Somebody was able to help. Before long he was turning out records in the USA but he never forgot Germany. My uncles 29th Inf div and the 86th blackhawk Inf div sat one night and heard this mans music.. I was sad to hear Bert passed at such a young age..

i feel his music will live on forever,

  • Wunderbares Video mit einer wunderbaren Musik! Grüße aus Köln

  • @MrMprinz

    Danke, mein Freund!

    Grüße aus North Carolina

That is very nice to know. Thank you.

  • Mein Gott - war dieser Bert Kämpfert gut!!!! Unbeschreiblich gut!!!

  • @MrMprinz

    Danke schön!

  • Five people voted this down. I guess you need to be alive to really like it.

  • @Tigermoon1950

I guess 5 out of 117,934 ain't so bad. I make a variety of videos, and I don't expect everyone to like all of them. But, I truly can't imagine why anyone would not like this music, even if they didn't like the pictures.

    Thanks, Tiger!

  • lovely tune, brings back memories

  • just beautiful music....thank you

  • @pladahitz

    You're welcome.

  • I heard this this morning on the car radio (WMTR 1250 in NJ) and went to their web site later to check the title. Then to YT for a video. The music is great and your photo accompaniment is very fitting. Just wondering: how many of the photos are yours?

  • @kennykenny5

Thank you for your compliment. None of the pictures were taken by me.

  • Beautiful!

  • Wonderland by night wird mich immer an unser Wasserballett erinnern. Es war unser Erkennungssong.

  • FLASHED BACK MEMORIES WITH MY DAD . DAD I KNOW YOU'RE WATCHING ME I LOVE YOU I KNOW YOU'RE HAPPY AND PEACE WITH THE LORD I MISS YOU A LOT.

  • @johnlhudson

    Thank you, John.....and you're welcome.

  • @chkjns KOY 1230 AM also plays this song.

  • This is such a wonderful tune that everybody would love to listen! I first heard in 1959 and never stop to enjoy the wonderness for so many wonderful nights! There is no word to describe how subtle it is! I sent it to everyone I know and they all love it very very much! What a great piece of music!

  • I could listen to this all day long. Such a timeless and beautiful song!

  • Bill Justis did it a little better on the Alley Cat/Green Onions album. I even have another record where the lyrics are sung.

  • its ok its calming and nice to listen to

  • Back in the 60's, my parents listened to this beautiful song. Now I am doing the same.

  • I hear this song on radio stations in Tucson, Arizona. It is good clean entertainment

  • only wonderfullllllllllllll.

  • Wow I can recall back to the mid-60s on a Saturday nite the old man would be sitting in his chair having a few brown bottle cocktails playing this album on the old Sears record player over and over.

  • The most incredibly beautiful instrumental

of all time in my opinion. I never get tired of

listening to it. Thank you ever so much for putting it on here. WendyKS93

  • Love Bert Kaempfert's music! Still do

  • Great memories -- even as a teenager! Terrific recording, such a fine tune. Thanks Likekinds.

  • Great "wonderland" photos!!

  • Thanks!

  • First heard this about 15 years ago in 1994 on 1300 WJDA in Quincy,MASS.Like it very much

  • Hello

This was one of my Dads Favorite Songs thanks for the music and the video to

    Don

  • Your Dad had good taste. Thanks to you, too.

  • You did a wonderful job on this. My Mom used to play this over and over when I was a child. It certainly makes me think of her when I hear it and wish she were still here to play it for me again.

  • I enjoy making these videos for several reasons. However, I get the most pleasure from knowing that I have caused someone to recall precious memories.

Thanks, Max. I miss my Mama, too.

  • @likekinds My God, every Sunday afternoon my dad would play this album, read the paper whistle to the songs right before we sat down to Sunday dinner, then he would put on Sinatra and Dean...Wow, I miss those days so much!!!!! I wuld give anything for on more Sunday like that.....

  • The new Conroy refers to this song, beautiful!

  • What made this song effective was the female background high note singing. Also the bridge of this song is great.

  • Don't discount the 'knack' bass style of guitarist Ladi Geisler. This was the hallmark sound of the Kaempfert Orchestra.

This was the first big hit for BK in early 1961. I have nearly 40 of his songs playlisted, along with 3000 others in lists by artist, or by the year they first appeared, over 220 playlists in all.

  • Thanks for the info, Chuck,

After taking a peek at your channel, I was wondering if you've considered changing your Utube handle to 'Music Man'? That's quite an impressive list you have there.

    PS

The new channel design is the pits and can be of an advantage only to Google. I just wonder what that advantage is.

  • Wat wordt er tegenwoordig toch een rotzooi gemaakt, dat ook nog muziek genoemd wordt.

Zeker als je een nummer als dit, nog eens hoort !!

Today there,s a lot of trash made that they say music to.

Hear this wonderfull music of Bert Keampfert again, give so much joy!!

  • RalphDodge1,

    Your words are very true.

    Thank you!

  • thanks to BEAUTIFULmusic73 for sharing this. it takes one back to a different time. lovely melody. thank you

  • If you live west of the mighty mississippi, this song is for u! I heard this song on the oldies channel then googled it and now this vid is my fav. hug and kiss.

  • I have always loved this song. It reminds me of being in the living room in my step-grandparents house, where we would listen to it on the "hi-fi." Absolutely beautiful then; even better now.

  • This is great...I haven't heard this one for a long time but I always thought it was beautiful.

    Thanks BEAUTIFULmusic73 for the share.

  • Thank you, too.

  • Great tune...Love Bert Kaemfert...

  • wow groovy xxlove this so much!!!!

    babsie ,,,super x

  • my granny used to listen to this...it brings back so many memories. im only 15, but i LOVE bert kaempfurts songs. <3

  • Your Granny had good taste. Thanks, Hailey!

  • Love these old 1950s and 1960s instrumentals

  • Yep. Nice.

  • Starting at 1:38 is the solemn and tough love portion of the song.

  • I was 11years old when this song came out in late 1960. It didn't make a big impression on me then, but as I got into my mid to late 30"s, it really started to grow on me. I am now 60 and it feels strange to be one of Bert Kaempferts younger fansat my creaky old age.

  • This song is timeless.

  • @MrTsarnicholas I second that....

  • Takes you back into the wonderland of great music.

  • Well, at 41, I have no memories for this, as I only discovered Bert about 10 years ago --- but I will say that the music is so good that it will create memories where there are none! ...no easy feat I tell ya .... Superb.

  • This song is by far one of the most sensual and romantic pop songs of the early 1960s. I have it on a 45rpm single - Decca #9-31141. Some trivia: The original German name is "Wunderland bei nacht", writing credits to Claus Gunter-Beumann, and it was first recorded in Europe by Deutsche Grammerphon/Polydor. The trumpet soloist is Charley Tabor.

  • I love this song. And even though I'm not a musician, I could "sing" every note. Thanks, man!

  • Sing all you want, it's good for you.

    And thank you, too!

  • Beautiful, could help a romantic night.

  • Beautiful.

This song brought back my interest in listening to and performing jazz.

  • Now. that's the kind of compliment that really makes me feel good.

    I wish you the BEST!

  • Thank you.

I won't let the tradition of real jazz music fade away!

  • bloody oat this is wunderbar allright

  • Bert te transporta hacia aquella época en la cual nos traé bellos recuerdos y nostalgias superadas, se congela el tiempo al escuchar esta bella música

  • Su comentario es muy poético. Gracias

  • Just beautiful...all of it. Thanks so much.

  • Thank you!

  • Diese Musik hatte in Deutschland einen sehr schweren Stand, da der dazugehörige Film im Kiezmilieu spielt.

Das kam damals nicht so an.

"Die Sünderin" war wohl auch noch nicht so lange her.

  • I must add about in 1938 Mr Glahe...

  • This title was the first No. One hit in America by a German Artist after World War 2.

Perhaps a Mr Will Glahe peaked No 1 in USA with the "Bohemian Beer Barrel Polka" - well Known as "Rosamunde" in Germany.

The Marx Brothers played that song too in their parody of "Casablanca".

  • When my wife and I dated all thru high school, this was 'our song'. Many, many pleasant memories comes with listening to this beautiful arrangement. I ordered a CD of it yesterday. Still have my original 45 RPM record but no longer have anything that will play 45's.

  • Wunderbar! Dunke sehr.

  • This piece takes you down memory lane.

  • My uncle recently passed away, and they played this song at the funeral, i had never heard it before but now it will always hold a special place in my heart. They played it because my Aunt and Uncle met to this song at a thing called "The Wonderland Ball".

It's such a beautiful song, when they played it everyone was so peaceful and quiet, even my cousins children, 5, 3 and 2 years old were all quiet and peaceful during this song.

Thank you, this song really means allot to me.

  • Very beautiful...

  • There was a time when my cousin Tony lived with us. He came from a troubled situation. One evening my parents decided to treat us to ice cream, but it was somewhat late in the evening. Tony thought we had to flee and started yelling "get ready" as he slipped on his shoes. I remember once in the car, this song came on and a calm came over Tony. My sisters and I never forgot him, but especially remember him whenever we hear this song. It has been years now, but Tony remains special to us.

  • Thank you for sharing that beautiful little story with us

  • Absolutely WUNDERBAR! Excellent music, set to an excellent video!

Many thanks! This song haunted me for years...I never knew the name of the title/artist until today.

Great! Thanks for posting! Added as a favorite!

  • My grandfather was a big Bert Kaempfert

fan.... He recently passed away this past February.... This particular song makes me think about him, and all the good times I had w/ him while hearing this song.... Thanks for sharing this w/ us...

  • 素晴らしい曲ですね~~~

    有難う御座います、

  • Absolutely fabulous.

  • Thanks for your comment and thanks for favoriting the video

  • Thanks for the nice compliment!

  • Just a great video, I was going to college in 1960 when this made the hit parade. I had a new for then transistor radio and played this all the time. Great, great visuals. Thanks

  • This is great!!!! Beautifully arranged.

  • Thank you

  • wonderful music, and great video too, including some pics. of pre-columbian sites !

    excellent

  • Thank you.

  • I remember playing this in high school. We sight read it. I did fine, until the modulation screwed me up. That was embarrassing, but it was only the first time. I love this song. The trumpet has such a great tone!

  • And so is your compliment.

    Thank you!

  • Beautiful!

  • 1961 was a banner year for instrumentals, of which this was the the most popular, spending the first three weeks of that year at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Calcutta", "Exodus", "Take Five", "Wheels", and "Last Night" were some other great ones that year.

I love this collection of nighttime images from around the world you've put together. They complement this song perfectly! Thanks for putting this on for us, and Peace to you too!

  • iswc27 - you are so right...jim..nyc

  • This music is timeless, if this does not take you into wonderland, nothing will.

  • I agree!

  • one of the greatest instermentals ever made, and the lyrics that go with it are good also.

  • This is one of the first numbers I played on trumpet ages ago! My playing is not so good as Tabor's playing, that's for sure. I particularly like the way he plays with his mute at 1:40. I'M a mute maniac :)

  • Yeah, I gotta agree. The mute is great.

  • Beautiful! Always loved both sides of the 45. Flip; (Dreaming The Blues)

  • Thank you for favoriting this video. You might like Wonderland By Night 2

    Same tune, different pictures.

  • I was a sophmore in high school when this song was released and I wore out several 45's playing it night and day.

Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories.

  • Great video!

  • This is indeed Mr Bert Kaempfert's version of "Wonderland By Night", featuring Charly Tabor on trumpet ... merely the most beautiful solo for trumpet I've ever heard.

"Wonderland By Night" & "Exodus" by Ferrante & Teicher were to my five year old ears 1961 when I first heard each - and remain to this day - my favorite instrumentals ever.

They don't make music like this anymore...

  • Thank you for the comment. I am not familiar with Ferrante & Teciher's 'Exodus', but I will certainly check it out.

  • Type in Ferrante and Teicher 'Exodus' on search box above on youtube and then choose the second version down from the top (the studio version - which is better than the others) & you can hear 'Exodus.'

  • Thanks!

  • If my information is correct, Louis Prima recorded Wonderland By Night on the Dot label in 1960-61(?) (DLP3352, DLP25352) and Bert Kaempfert recorded it on the Decca label in 1960 (DL-74117)

    This is Bert's version.

  • Correction: The issue # for Bert's version is

    DL-74101
