love it! My brother and I used to listen to the radio years ago. all the things he talked about in the song is real. takes me back to a simpler times.
I love this song! I grew up listening to AM and shortwave on an old Zenith floor model radio when I was growing up in the 1960's. I now hold both commercial and amateur radio licenses stemming from my youthful fascination listening to the old Zenith. Thanks for posting this! 73, de AA3RT
Who's the moron that dislikes this, folks would it not make sense if someone don't like a song why click dislike and comment about how ya don't like the song, and just watch what ya do like. Am I right or am I right..lol
This is one of my grandfathers favorite songs. We were listening to it eariler to dad reminds him of growing up in the 40s and 50s just the artists would be different then the 60s ones. Also he use to listen to the Dodgers and the Yankees at night.
I have not heard this song since childhood, I can't find it on I Tunes. The funny thing is when the power went out briefly, This song came on my Dad's radio.
He did a song with a video (maybe 1990-1991) that I believe the title was something like "Going Home With My Angel Tonight". I have been unable to locate it. It was my niece's favorite song when she was little. She was killed in a car accident in 1994 and I would like to find a cd or record with this song. Any suggestions??
@DaveWollenberg We had the privilege of seeing Lionel at our once in a lifetime visit to beautiful Nashville. He was doing a live taping for HeeHaw in 1990, and we got to see a LOT of takes (and took a lot of great pix) of Lionel doing this song. What a sweet person. He took it very, very hard when his Dad passed. I was a memer of his fan club at the time and got the info. No surprise that he became a pastor. Thank you for the update!
Hey, US99 Listeners. Remember when Trish Biondo used to open her 'Nashville Hotline' segment with a snippet of this? Lionel hit #8 in Billboard, 5-26-90. God bless!
I miss laying in bed when I was a kid listening to my transister radio. Like he sang, it brought a whole new world to me. It's a shame kids don't have the chance today.
@hellooldfriend617 I know how that feels, when I was 10 I had a shortwave radio by my bed and when I could not sleep I was literally tuning in the world. This was back in 1998 however so I am fairly young.
The tragedy is that music like this won't sell today because people want songs that glorify drinking, infidelity, and living life to simply "party". I used to love country music, but I can only tolerate about 10% of it these days. Of course, there is no shortage of garbage in country music's history. :)
I havent heard this song in forever. I loved this song, I think alot of us can agree back when we were growing up not everyone had a tv in their bedrooms at night. So we listened to the radio. I miss this kind of country!
This one reminds me so much of how I was when I was a kid... hiding and listening to the whole world on a little hand held radio. Times were so much simpler then,
@teddereem I think he did a good job capturing the magic of radio as well in this song. Listening to AM and shortwave gives a strong sense of community as does operating on the HF amateur radio bands. With just 100 watts your transmissions can hop continents covering a significant portion of the world. Just going out and getting your ticket is quite an experience which I myself am glad I got to have. 73 de KD7YUF/9
This song came out when I was about 9 or 10. Brings back fond memories of staying up late on weekends, playing Nintendo, and listening to the radio. LOL. They don't make country music like this anymore.
I used to love this song when I was a kid, and I've been searching for this song for years and years. I'm so glad I found it at last, it's a real gem.
@Darthbelal I too have been looking for this for years. Some how I thought it was by Paul Overstreet, thus I could never find it. Finally remember more of the lyrics and did a lyrics search on Google. Success!! A GREAT song.
In the Top 3 of best songs ever about listening to the radio - the other 2 - Home Town Radio/Curtis Wright & Turn Your Radio On/Albert Brumley. Great work Lionel & Don Schlitz 5 Big *

This sounds very similar to Wierd Al's "The Night Santa Went Crazy", didn't know he parodied country. Cool.

It's funny how Lionel sang about a preacher, since he's now a pastor himself. God bless ya, brother Lionel!

I always loved to hear a ball game on the radio. They could paint a picture you'd see in your mind. Better than TV.
