You are so correct! We need to know more about our universe. We live on Earth. We need to know what's outside our solar system. Also we even might eventually live one of those new Earths that Kepler found. Space is so pretty and they are so huge. We humans are so small compared to the rest of the universe. Space is amazing to see.
yeah why worry about a NASA price tag when you are $12 trillion in debt and your economy is on the verge of complete collapse.
Yeah, come on brainiac, enlighten me on what good a Kepler photos does when the average human is starving their ass off.
Come I dare ya. Gimme 3 benefits of the Kepler that keep kids in 3rd world countries from starving to death as you sit and post idiotic pro-NASA bull shit.
@powmadeak47 you may be right your own way. but you also have to understand that we have to evolve as a species and nothing can stop that. things that might seem worthless now may be vital in the near future, yes maybe not for our generation. just think about every discovery from the past (the first time they used electricity people like you said it's useless), or the steam engine, or the telegraph, or the telephone.
It's more likely that Betelgeuse will supernova, killing us all, before we even discover and means to travel at a decent speed in space. Unless we find a way to travel at the speed of light within the next thousand or ten thousand years? We're all going to be wiped off the face of the galaxy.
I have no point with that previous comment, by the way. Other than the fact that I wouldn't be worrying about a price tag, when it comes to space exploration. Especially when it's for a greater cause than you could possibly understand. The Betelgeuse thing could also slightly be a myth. Yet it is possible, and it's a very scary thought.
nasa has alot of problems but we spend $340 million a day in iraq.... i say give the troops a couple of days off and let nasa have more toys... once we learn to colonise space or harvest minerals from another planet, then we can have all the wars we want, maybe even with another species...
THE BIBLE AND SCIENCE ARE 100 percent compatible. JESUS LOVES YOU but god will not intervene to make life perfect. he wants your faith, his holy spirit suffers when you suffer, he loves you more than you could ever imagine. what have you got to lose? I believe in evolution....yea so what? it makes sense. and i believe in other life forms. who the fuck knows what gods got goin on man... Give it a chance. read it with your heart and you will feel the holy spirit flowing through you. good energy

The aliens are able too see and here our electronic tranmissions for almost a century now. When they land they will say " Dittos ! Take us too your leader " Rush Limbaugh "
Because if we find another earth-like planet, and further study it, and either discover somewhere we could one day go, or other life, it would hopefully allow the people of our world to see past their petty differences and desires. Sometimes food on a table is not enough, our history has taught us that for our species, it never seems to be.
600 million $ is not a bad deal to get alook at plantes they might be just like earth but lots n lots of light years away...o yea and btw religion does suk...and how come jesus never shaves or gets out of them pj's? wat is he a stoner??
Science and christianity is 100 percent compatible. The bible is God INSPIRED and must be interpreted with your heart, not your mind. I am very excited about this project. Mabye god made more beings. Who knows. Crazy man crazy, think about it. LEGALIZE!!!
Religion has always been a set of blinders for humanity. It's sole purpose is to control the masses. Every major entity within our world one time or another has lied to us, what makes religion so special. First Religion told us we are in a geocentric universe. Wrong.
Then religion told us we are the only life in the universe and that is about to be proven wrong.
Next evolution turned into creationism also proven wrong. Universe is >10 000 years old sorry! religion = lowest of the low!
who the fuck is this dude? a waste? yea it uses up a lot of money, but so does nuclear weapons. If u dont want to find another habitable planet and possibly some life form, intelligent or not, thts ur look out, but respect the hard work of scientists and their curiosity which pushes them to do so.
Hey Majorvoltage. Yes I have a whole website devoted to nukes'. Nice try. Grade = D-.
And, if you are dumb enough to think that finding aliens will bring humanity togather, just go look at the international space staion. Reagan said that would bring us all together. $60 billion for nothin.
And if you want more money to be available for humanitarian efforts, why don't you complain about the stockpile of nuclear weapons which cost a hell of a lot more than Kepler and certainly do a let less for humanity than space exploration.
Kepler is a waste. Who cares if there is life out there. I assume there is. I hope we don't attract some intelligent beings that want to take over earth.
I care, and so do a lot of other people. Any intelligent species will likely have evolved that intelligence the same way we did, through socialization. Other intelligent species, such as chimpanzees and whales are also social. If this is the case, they will likely have the same feelings of empathy that we do.
I suspect that the discovery of life on another world, whether or not it is benign, will force people to see beyond our own petty differences and unite humanity like nothing has in the history of our planet.
Maybe in this way Kepler can help save us from ourselves.
IM optimistic this 'find' will occur3 and half years from now and will be as real as a moon landin. Way better holigram sequences by then. Mybe even have em flash by and write Hi in the Sky!

the speed of light and the enormous distances will keep us safe :)
who knows, developing these types of technologies might help us develop space weapons in the future to defend ourselves from these intelligent civilizations
And your description is wrong. Kepler isn't looking into deep space. On the contrary, it's looking at a section of our local stellar neighborhood. Hubble was designed for looking into deep space.
How is Kepler a waste? I don't see anything in this video that demonstrates that. This is very promising research. If you think it's just a redundant Hubble, you're totally wrong. Kepler is designed specifically for finding earth-like planets. It has a wide field of view and sensitive photometer allowing it to simultaneously observe 100,000 main sequence stars.
waste?......I think you meant to say uses money didn't you, you just spelled uses wrong that's all.....finding other life in the universe is probably the most important thing we as a human race could achieve
@lanthandiatoms No I am not a "religious nutjob."
We are however bankrupt, and Keplar does NOTHING for our economy.
Enjoy losing your job when the economy collapses because our govt. wastes money on crap like Keplar.
