I care, and so do a lot of other people. Any intelligent species will likely have evolved that intelligence the same way we did, through socialization. Other intelligent species, such as chimpanzees and whales are also social. If this is the case, they will likely have the same feelings of empathy that we do.

And your description is wrong. Kepler isn't looking into deep space. On the contrary, it's looking at a section of our local stellar neighborhood. Hubble was designed for looking into deep space.

How is Kepler a waste? I don't see anything in this video that demonstrates that. This is very promising research. If you think it's just a redundant Hubble, you're totally wrong. Kepler is designed specifically for finding earth-like planets. It has a wide field of view and sensitive photometer allowing it to simultaneously observe 100,000 main sequence stars.
