Classic Al Wilson... One of the three best Northern Soul tracks ever :-) Its a pity the missus ent on the dance floor (Wiganite) she still has the moves & I have the Talc, lol :-) ktf
im 49 and was brought up with this stuff, my brother was a dj at the twisted wheel , had a fantastic collection of stuff. by the way this dancing is tame compared to how they used to do it in the 60s!!! i remember my brother attempting to teach me how to do the back drops and spins when i was a kid!!! never mastered it but then again he was a gymnast too . wow now he could dance.
some blazin moves on that floor , top shuffle'in everywhere you look n hectic aswell as is always the way with CLASSIC northern, pure fkn class mint post ktf , v1
I remember being at Wigan that first week it was played and it was an instant floor filler. One of the lads from Peterborough got an EMI of it. Cant remember what else was on it. But we took it up the Carousel on the tuesday night and everyone freaked.Of course SOMEBODY had a couple of hundred copies and the next week they were all over the place for a fiver.
Wirelad, not only your Grandad dances like this. There are thousands of us.
Watch the vids and try to do it yourself, the older ones when we were younger especially. You do the moves, your body will get fitter, you will dance more effectively. Notice that I didn't say better. That's down to how your head translates the music down to your feet.
I hope that one day you can dance as good as Grandad.

Where was this video done? I think i'm the bloke in the muscle vest in the foreground doing the spins, but I normally move my feet more than that, and pop in a few more back-drops and splits.
I can remember when I was younger my uncle would just cover the kitchen floor in talc and make me dance across the floor. Im only 20 and I love Northern Soul!
I remember like it was yesterday coming back to Peterborough with this the week they played it, we knew then it would be big, the next week there was EMIs of it everywhere lol
My granddad dances like this - well tries too. he's 50 now and every wedding or family doo. He'll be up there.... Keeps shouting " put a bit of northern on, come on! slap up me bitch..." Nana tries sometimes but says her knees want hold her up any more. old folk hey.
;-0 50 "Old folk" ? Don't let your Grandad hear you say that ! I'm 53 got "kid's" of 33 and 30 and kids of 10 and 8, still up to all sorts and definitely not "OLD" by a long way, 50 is middle aged, and good on your Grandad tell him to "Keep the faith" and ask him to teach you the basics like the box step and a bit of jumpstyle (Lambrini style)
try the Hi Fi club.. Keep ur eye open for Mod/ Scooter do s.. Few pure Northern soul things done really.. Look forward to running into you.. Irish Tony
Two completely different styles of dancing ! please dont say things that relate mods with neds because you clearly dont knw what your talking about !!
i'd believe you if jumpstyle was actually anything like this.
Some of the moves in this video though are more like a variation of jumpstyle called Tekstyle and also similar to break dancing.
However the dance itself is not, and it only looks like break cos they lean on their hands, and tekstyle because all tekstyle moves are made up and not part of a sequence like proper Jumpstyle. everyone has their own moves.
Just to depress everyone.....my neighbour who is in her mid 30's told me they now do a dance to "The Snake" at her Aerobics Class - and they call it. Wait for it, wait for it...........The LAMBRINI!!!! (groan) They actually dance like the girls in the advert - why didn't they just do it right?????
Well guys. Bloody ACE
