  • I like the drumsolo.

  • I just saw the quintet two days ago, and all I gotta say is BRING BACK BILLY!

  • 強者達と渡り歩いたデイヴ・ホランド、自己のBIGBANDで安らぎが!~~ドラムは強力ビリー・キルソン #jazzm

  • hi is an great drummer. musically..antonio sanchez is 10 to the 5th power better.as well as gavin harrison and vinnie....

  • He just tore 34,078 people a new one. And that's not counting the people in the room with him at the time. Thanks, Billy K.

  • i love this guy!

  • billy is a beast. such a great entertainer! loving the left foot lead.

  • This dude is bad to the bone!!!!

  • there seems to be quite a list of fantastic drummers out there, but i cant think of any that put on a show quite like Billy.

  • Colorburned, just be more extra careful with what you are saying next time, Buddy. Keep making music and all the best. God Bless You all.

  • I'm convinced there are not many (or maybe no) drummers that can do what he is doing.

There's several types of players outthere.

Technical can also mean boring, because it has no guts, no feel.

What Billy does is technically strong and has lots of feel. See Dave Holland smiling at him all the time.

Actions speak louder than words !

And haha, u wish you could play like that !

It sure ain't you sitting upthere,

because if you were able to,

    you wouldn't even bother commenting...

  • what the hell! guys maybe you're not listening to what the bass does under his solo, try to listen in he way he uses time with the melody, listen to the cd version also to see how he works (overtime by dave holland) Billy is amazing, if you don't understand what he does it means you have a lot of work to do!!! completely agree with Gman. peace.

  • Good point;-)

  • @Gman4MF although i have played with kilson and you haven't most probably :P I just don't have the time to do it full time to be up 'there' all the time.

  • You cannot argue with the groove from 3:41 - barri entrance

  • Sounds like you haven't invested any real time in examining the cd this performance is from.

    Your third comment extreme hyperbole.

Your fourth is just sort of irrelevant.

Your fifth and sixth comments are just factually incorrect.

One wonders if you're just a plumber who plays a drummer on the internet.

  • Well,,,, For Someone who has played for Thirty Years, you should have alot of experience. I have a question though? Why havent you made a name for yourself, the way billy Kilson has?.. People always talk about how good they are but when someone far better than them shows/cuts/destroys anything and everything they have tried to accomplish in their Entire lifetime or Career (in your case 30 years), they get cocky and start "talking shit." He is wayyyy better than YOU bro!!!! =)

  • But this is what that kind of music is about! Not to think too much! I mean ... listen to the solo, you can't denie, it really grooves! If you only think, that you must show everything you can do technically and this idea and the other idea ... then it is nothing but sports, and no music!

  • @Colorburned I'm not a fan of Kilson, but I have to admit that his style here works good

  • Kilson is ON FIRE!!! I love his mix of precision and reckless abandon in this solo.

  • 3.10 killer!!!

  • fucking great, dave holland and billy killson!!! yeah

  • You have just heard the Bruce Lee of percussion! There may be some cats out there better than Billy, but I'm still waiting for them to show up!

  • radical. I loved it

  • Wow

Thw MAN wit "that East Coast style of playing".

  • Yeeeeaaaahh man.

  • billy kilson is a fuckin genius

  • hahahhaa.., thats funny kage..

  • dewd i no ;)

  • When I saw him with Larry Carlton at the Blue Note he kept knocking over his high hat. It is a great show watching him work the cymbals, not to mention everything else. Larry called him a drummer with "that East Coast style of playing". I think he was irritated because Billy got as much attention as he did. I thought it wonderful to experience them both. What a treat.

  • That's what i'm talking about!

    Great!!!

    p,

  • Love that solo!

Just wanted to say he looks a bit like Kobe Bryant.

    Haha.

  • THANK YOU FOR MR. BILLY KILSON

  • billy would make Gene Krupa take up the oboe if they were in the same era. Best I have ever seen or heard, and I am 75 years, listening to jazz since I was 9.

  • in those early days, Lionel Hampton sounded like Steve Nelson...same stuff....

    mah !!

  • BILLY!!!

  • billy Kilson is WICKED ON THE SET!!!

  • I havent seen a drum solo this creative in a while!

  • Jeez, that was fantastic!

  • i agree, i wish billy still laid it down with dave. but then again i did see them live with nate and that guy is nuts. adhd meets a drum set.... dave's band is for sure in the top two of my favorite big bands along with jaco pastorius big band. you all should check out billy's group BK Groove if you haven't already.

  • Haha ! :-))

    "ADHD meets a drumset"

BK Groove ? I will check 'em out!

    Thnx 4 the tip!

    Here on YouTube?

  • THE DRUMMER...with THE BIG BAND. I wish Billy was still with Dave. I love Nate and all, but BIlly just is the drummer for this group

  • Yeah,Billy is awesome.

Saw Dave Holland Quintet last NSJ2007 again, and i can understand why Nate Smith IS the drummer for Dave...

It was another "kicksass" performance of the highest quality jazz that is there 2day. For young AND old...

  • Wunderbar! That solo killed!

  • this is a ecm release, live at birdland, the best cd I ever bought...

  • Thnx for explaining, will try 2 find one...

grtz from Holland (Europe), were iw ill see Dave Holland live in about 2 months

    :-)

  • we kunnen nederlands praten. Dave Holland zit in het NorthSea pakket?

  • Yep zondag in Hudson !Wordt weer dringen (of in slaapzak voor de deur, haha) SSya there ?

  • like! Buy DH Extended Play!!!

  • What u mean with extended play?

  • Dave Holland Quitet's Live CD called "Extended Play".

  • dude... music is music. let it be. genres suck.

  • i guess RUFFQOOK meant the groove Billy starts playing at 1:12. doesn't matter how you call it,it sounds killer!

  • Some hiphop, some funk, some rock and lot of jazz... Whatever ! This solo is "tha bomb"

But plz explain hiphop flavor part, i'm curious !

  • ruffgook...do you even play an instrument? do you know what hip hop flavor is?

  • lol.... im saying he's dropping a bit of hiphop loops when he is at it, and he's known for that shit... if u can't hear that you just got noob ears. go flame elsewhere k kid? thx

  • hahahaha, ok mr. super ears why dont you tell us all then which specific passage in the solo would be described as "hip hip flavor" dont forget to mention the minutes while your at it so we know just when the flavor hits us. all of us rythmically retarded listeners would love to know, and hear it just as you do.

  • nice.... one of my favorite drummers, love the way he adds hiphop flavor

  • it's not hip hop...it's FUNK! do you even listen to hip hop?? lol....nuff said do your homework before you talk about billy k...k?
