  • This is my song......I love this SONG always have and when my life ends this is the song that will played at my funeral.....Route 101

  • simply amazing how great this guy is at playing smooth jazz/music.

  • I used this for a video I did. It was two guys going on a road trip somewhere. It turned out well.

  • God people..chill out!! Just enjoy the music and stop the bickering...this music should calm the savage beast.

  • @1961beethoven You are a fucking troll. Get a life. Who cares what he is? Just enjoy the music. Don't be judgmental.

  • Man, I was in the 2nd grade when this came out!

  • I was lucky and honored enough to get Herb Alpert autograph. I've liked him since I was in grade school and have all of his albums.

  • la mejor cancion instrumental del mundo extraordinario

  • I used to dance to this record when I was a little girl, thanks for posting!!!! Brought out so many good memories!!!!

  • es una excelente cancion.

  • I can't get enough of this song.

  • EXTREME SPEED!!!

  • liked this song and didnt know who did it, until i got an old american top 40 from 7/31/82 and it was number 40. had no idea it was herb albert. great song..

  • Thanks for posting this! I've been looking for this one since it came out (I was 5 years old by then). I'm glad to see that a long search is finally over... and I must thank the band "Double" for having Mr. Alpert in their song "Devils Ball"... a real genius!

  • yup...I almost forgot

  • Herb hit #37 in Billboard, 8-14-82. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Shalom, Herb!

  • Love Love Love

  • Such a great album, and yet very sad it does not appear to be able on CD anywhere.

  • 7 people that crashed on the route 101. Hey, learn how to drive and how to listen to good music!

  • I fell in love with Herb Alpert as a teenager. Nice to know others like him as well. Did you know he is not Hispanic?

  • @sharondurgincampbell Yes, he's Jewish.

  • @wannawatchu66 Yes, he's a Jew; Rafael Mendez, the best trumpet player of the world for many years, never got all the propaganda that only the Jews give to each other. I always like Herb Alpert Very much, but I trully resent the fact that others don't get the same benefits the Jews Get from the Jewish media. Herb Alpert got a lot of publicity from the Mexican Media, here and there in Mexico, but Mendez did not get any of the attention he deserved. Yet he's still regarded as one of the best ever

  • @Opusdei1951 just shut up and listen to the music..

  • @MrsClippit Just listen to the music and stop reading all of the crap opinions by all of the time-wasters on youtube

  • @1961beethoven oh, hmmm why dont YOU listen to the music and stop leaving stupid hateful comments... whatever LOL LOL LOL!!!

  • @wannawatchu66 Yes he's Jewish; and you are giving him unnecesary/doubtful credit for it. There is nothing special about being a jew; the jews have been persecuted through history, not for nothing; please stop your reverse psychology, it won't work on me. There must be something wrong with a group of people when the whole world hate them...

  • @1961beethoven What a hate monger you are.. I feel sorry for you. There was nothing WRONG with us! God used our people to bring Messiah to the world that you might be saved. But your hate and ignorance has consumed your heart. Goodbye

  • @wannawatchu66 I believe he's also homosexual; do you also want to give him credit for that? When you tell only part of the story, you are actually propagandizing; which is common practice for the Jews; not for nothing Hitler, the Inquisition and a thousand more have tried to exterminate those guys. Let's just say that he is/was a good trumpet player that got inspired in Tijuana Mexico in 1962.

  • @1961beethoven Had that chip on your shoulder long? When I said Alpert was Jewish, I was only responding to someone who said he's not Hispanic, so don't put words in my mouth and read things into my previous posts. Who cares that you believe he's gay? As for "the crap opinions by...the time-wasters on YouTube," the SIX COMMENTS IN A ROW below are YOURS. So how about taking your own advice, quit acting like a troll, and quit trying to start pissing contests?

  • OMG, I've been trying to figure out the title of this song for YEARS!!!! THANK YOU!

  • waw q buen grupo gracias quin los subio esto es musica

  • waw q buen grupo gracias quin los subio

  • Why did Herb Alpert and TJB break up? Sad... Would rather see them back together on tour...

  • @MrsClippit Do you want to bring them back from the grave? Herb himself is around 77 years old; most of the other guys were EVEN OLDER!

  • Reminescent of those days shopping at Farmer Jack's Grocery store back in the early 1980's. Cereal aisle 5...

  • @Downriver73 farmer jack was lovley remember hearing chuck mangione while shoppin on a friday afternoon with my mother and sister

  • nice compilation

  • Driving around the Vegas Interstates with this song blaring...life IS beautiful!

  • Just wonderful. Memories of my childhood riding the subway in Mexico City and go to the Latino American tower near Downtown Mexico City in the early 70s. Thank you so much for posting. Realmente una joya de melodía. Muchísimas gracias por haberla puesto mi buen amigo. Sans mots!!! merci!!!

  • about 40 years ago I had his songs on vinyl records, at 1:17 the way he bends backwards, he is in full passion, ecstasy and mastery over his art !

  • exelente, exotico

  • Loved this from the first time I heard it. I agree w/ poster who said the song is beautiful for its slight melancholy as well as the up feel. Reminds me of the feeling of stepping off a plane in the tropics when you've travelled from 10 degrees- but you know you eventually have to return... : [

  • Classical song of 80's . I remenber some comercials of products with this song.

Herp and Juan Carlos Calderon are a genius.

  • A few times in the 80s this was used as background music for showcases on The Price Is Right

  • i first heard this on SCTV in 1981, from the 'towering inferno' episode.

  • 6 para triunfar!!!

  • The definition of smoooooth.....

  • This is when I started driving 18 wheelers that year, and now 29 years later I'm still driving, thank you Herb Albert you rock forever..!!

  • and add to his talent, the man is fine as all get out...those dimples that come out his cheeks are adorable!

  • Herb Alpert;; a genius.

  • Poot justin bieber on that and shit it will stink

  • My favorite Herb Alpert song, since I used to live on Route 101 in New Hampshire!

  • @sallygoroundtheroses Its actually about Route US 101 in California that runs from L.A thru Oregon up to the Olympic peninsula in Wash. state. You must have a state route with the same number

  • @MrJacMac1986 Being Herb a native of Los Angeles; the instrumental piece probably refers to FREEWAY 101; but "Route 101" sounds better than "Freeway101"...

  • Amazing music to fill you with energy!!!!

  • Amazing song go Herb Alpert!

  • Takes me back to grocery shopping at Farmer Jack's grocery store back in the early 1980's. Good times, good times...

  • SOY ADICTO A ESTA MELODÍA... me trae buenos recuerdos de niñez

  • A great Musician from all the times!!

  • Wish there was a way to say how much I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! I've actually driven Rt 101 and this song captures something of how I felt driving it in my Austin Healy...top down, cool fog in the low places, bright sun in the high spots!!!! Brings back such wonderful memories!!!!1

  • @geniekri Did you really have an Austin Healy or was it a Jensen Healy? In either case, driving around with your top down in either one of those cars, and listening to this song is just a great feeling.

  • @kptrojans sorry this is late but, yes, it was an Austin Healy...the last imported to the US. And man, I miss those days! Hair in the wind....some cute guy in the passenger seat....the California sun....ho, how I wish I could go back to just those moments!!!! You have no idea how much those memories mean to me!!!!

  • @geniekri "WOW", you nailed it, especially the part about the Austin Healy! And mine would be the cute girl in the passenger seat. Either way, picture perfect driving the California coastline with the top down, and Herb and George playing the cruising music. Not to must better than that.

  • @kptrojans Amen..... You know, I sometimes really long for those days. I know I would have made better choices and headed in another direction. But riding in my Healy, hair blowing, radio blaring, and the California sun ... man, I just ache for those times some days. Hate getting older and those days gone forever!

  • Good song that didn't reach the top 10 like it should have. Another gem from a class act.

  • CUNTY have you seen this one?

First heard it BBQing on Deseo. Good times!

    - Grada (you know who the F this is !!)

  • OMG!!! I finally found this beautiful song after so long!!! Thank you very much for uploading!!!

  • Nice! I love Herb Albert & The Tijuana Brass...

  • Next to George Benson "Breezin", there is nothing like driving the PCH in the middle July or Aug, with your on top down playing both Breezin or Route 101. Without a doubt (at least in my opinion), these two song optimize the drive along the California coast line... pure beauty and greatness.

  • @kptrojans and when the sun sets: quincy jones - velas

  • @ronrabia28 "Good call on that"

  • @kptrojans Agree completely! About 2 weeks ago I bought two Herb albums, as well as George Benson's "Breezin'" and "Weekend in L.A." albums. They made my drive from Massachusetts to Michigan last week go very, very fast :)

  • @kptrojans How about "Ride like the wind" with Christopher Cross?

  • Congratulations for the video love Herb and Tijuana Brass hear his songs from childhood exelentes musicians, I have had the pleasure to know them personally but anyway thanks for this magnificent memory.

  • BEUTIFUL IS SONG

  • Great song havent heard it in years.Couldnt remember the name of the song.Went to see a mariachi band at a mexican restaurant last night and made me think of this song from the fall of 1982.Takes me back to the 8th grade

  • Unless I'm mistaken, I think I saw the Baja Marimba Band, another group who recorded on Herb's label, A & M Records.

  • Absolutely awesome!!!!

  • Fabulous musician...Thanks for posting the video ! I agree with essexlph's comment - that's what this song makes me think of as well. Also ' Rise' and 'Rotation'.

  • Thank you, Mr. Alpert!

  • exelente bonitos recuerdos un magnifico trompetista

  • one of the best instrumental songs

    Herb Alpert forever!

    Your friend,

    Val Staccato

  • I was absolutely impressed with the song. Herb Alpert's "Route 101" song from 1982 contained the right balance of jazz and the right balance of spontaneity. I loved that song. An Amazing 16!!

  • de lo mejor aki en mexico para siempre recordarlo

  • Super clásico de clasicos aquí en México!

    Gracias!

  • What happened to those years, man i miss them.......does anybody have a time machine?

  • love this song and rise

  • Herb Alpert is the epitomy of cool jazz, hearing "ROUTE 101" stirs my soul, hope I can pick it up on my trip next month while driving the PCH from LA to San Francisco.

  • Esta canciòn sonò muchìsimo al comienzo de los 80's en Perù, gracias por compartirla!!

This song was a hit at the beginning of the 80's in Peru; thanks for sharing!!

  • Gracias por esos buenos momentos de ese grandioso artista!

  • I love all music by Herb Alpert but this is my favorite of all time. It is such a soothing relaxing song!

  • Herb Alpert still tops in my book...no matter what other opinions are shared. One of the best instrumentals ever!

  • @hadoenough ..im behind you on that thought..this song could last 40 days ..he is such a suave player..

  • This music is pure '80's escapism. It sounds so regal at the crux of the song. PCH here I come, and it's all because of Herb, + it's my weekend.

  • Dangit! It's 9:50p in Oakland, Calif., & I feel like getting in the Vette, popping the targa off (which takes some effort), & and heading to Ocean Beach. Thanx for posting. and thanx Herb.

  • capo di tutti capi. Herb!!!

  • LOVE THIS!!!! thanks so much for posting it!!!

  • So early 80's....it sounds even better today!!!!1

  • @centralparocker Especially compared to the pure crap that's so prevalent today. I think of eras as soundtracks, the people who lived at that time as the music as the soundtrack to their lives....we've devolved from things like classical, swing, Sinatra, most jazz and a lot of the pre-1980 popular music to....Kesha? Justin Timberlake? Dear God, we've gone backwards!

  • lo mejor de los clasicos chevereeeee ,,,, exitos majestuosos

  • Muy bueno

  • Hit #4 AC, #37 pop in Billboard. God bless!

  • Uhhh.. jeebus kripes, that's a lot of Chaplins!!!

  • Finally, I have found this video i love it.

  • @tavo051 I love this music too.

  • this is a great video.

  • This song is awesome. I do have one question, is the Trumbonist at :55-:59 Kramer from Seinfeld? Thanks for posting this, the radio doesn't play it anymore.

  • @clineshaunt

LOL... no, but I see what you mean.

  • @clineshaunt The trombonist is Bob Edmondson, one of the great session men. He played on a lot of film and television scoring sessions. He met Herb Alpert while in high school, and when the demand came for a TJB tour, Edmonson was one of the first guys Alpert asked to join the band. He also played on a number of A&M records, later producing some himself. Edmonson worked with everyone from Diz to Harry James to Shelley Manne before he retired about 20 years ago.

  • @jimraw1 Thanks's for the info. I've always like Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. I've been down Route 101 before and this song matches that road perfectly. I watched a couple youtube videos with Shelley Manne. That man was a beast.

  • I grew up listening to this music. My dad would play his music all the time. What great memories. Wish times have not changed so much. Thank you for posting this - certainly many of us remember better times!

  • This is another song I've tried to find, listen for on the radio, and have never been able to learn what it is or who did it. Thank you so much for putting this up for us!

  • rickw1100, what the hell are you talking about saying Herb's gay? That would come as quite a shock to Lani Hall (his wife). And what the hell does it have to do with anything, anyway?

  • I'M READY FOR ROUTE 101!!! get out town down the road feeling every time I hear this. GOTA LOVE HIM..

  • Not only is this man a brilliant musician but also a genius businessman. Starting A & M Records with Jerry Moss. I've been a fan of Herb Alpert since I was 6yrs. old. No man ever looked better in a black tux than Herb! He is soo HOT!!!!!!!

  • Not only is this man a brilliant musician but a genius businessman starting A&M Records with Jerry Moss. I have been a Herb Alpert fan since I was 6yrs. old. No man has ever looked better in a black tux than Herb! He is soo HOT!!!!!!!

  • What an incredible gift this man has been to Music!! U gotta Luv him!!

  • Ohhh, can I just tell you good people just how special and good this music makes me feel??!! To say this song brings back memories is just a total understatement!!

  • Nice music!! :D

  • Aww this melody...wonderful...Herbert is nuthing but the best!!!

  • It is a shame that the wooden bullring in this video was torn down recently.

  • ooooo....Herb Alpert is such a gorgeous beastie

  • This is drunk people's music! LOL! XD

I love this song. I first heard it when I was 7 years old and I loved it then.

  • @twistedbabydoll85 I'll drink to that!

  • first time heard this song. could not believe this mens talent. this men is like a platinum surfer. only with a musical instrument. wow. way to go herb.

  • for years my mom to me this song was chuck mangione and about 6-7 months ago i found out it was alpert...always was a fan of his but didnt know it was him ..now that i know its him ia love the song even more

  • Late 1970's-early 1980's: HERB ALPERT AT HIS VERY BEST!

  • This song is wonderful, I like it since I was a child, this guy It's awesome....

  • This kind of music is Timeless. I feel so good when I listen to this song. Its so optimistic that you forget all the troubles away. The video is really good, I didnt know it.

  • Count me in as another big fan. We had several TJB albums when I was a kid. Herb Alpert was may favorite. Still love his music!

  • Beautiful, beautiful song!

Brings excellent memories to my mind!!

  • Happy times come from this tune...

  • one of my fav'ss from herb alpert sooo upbeat and fresh make'ss you wonna go outside and injoy the day

  • ...notes from his horn are like liquid velvet

    ...what a beautiful soul

  • still awesome to this day!

  • The part where all the people are trying to fit inside the car, reminds me of when me and my family would take long road trips.

  • @borrow32 Oh yeah? I bet that part inspired a few scenes in the TV movie adaptation of, "Good Old Boy: A Delta Boyhood."

  • How truly heartwarming it is to see comments from so many of Herb's and the Tijuana Brass's fans. I consider myself one of his/their biggest. Herb was a BIG inspiration to me as a kid when I took up the trumpet in the mid 70s. My parents had his Greatest Hits 8-track. This was years before "Route 101" came out. As jimraw1 implied, by '79 he was far from done. Let's not forget "Bullish" (Summer '84). Then the hits he had with Lisa Keith and Janet Jackson in the mid and late 80s.

  • Most definitely the best driving song, especially along a coast road with the top down. Day or night makes no difference, this song is #1. Thanks for posting it.

  • @essexlph ...yeah know what you mean...just seems to sound good when you're out cruising in the car...

  • @essexlph I Agree

  • @essexlph You are so damn right.

  • @essexlph amen to that brother!

  • got to give it up to herb alpert this was made when I was born and I luv it great way to show cali some love to naming a route after 101.

  • Definately my favourite Herb Alpert song!

  • @tonyf734atl I like this song, too!

  • I read that this song is made as the 20th anniversary of his first video from 1962, it features the path of his music carrier during this period.

  • I don't think a lot of people remember all of Herb Alpert and TJB's television specials that were on in the 1960s and early 70s. Each special would feature a "video" of Herb and the Brass having fun to one of their many hits (and boy did they have a ton of hits in those days). When Rise came out most people had given up on Albert as ever having another hit, but that album popped like crazy.

  • maravilloso e inolvidable, pero donde esta la de tequila? no la encuentro

  • FAVORITE by this genious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the ultimate traveling song.

  • I used this for an art school project. it was well received.

  • Como sou contrabaixista e levando-se em consideração os recursos tecnológicos da época, a condução, o groove do contrabaixo é fantástica. Claro que estou me referindo á música, ao áudio e não ao vídeo em si.

  • Herbs the trumpet BEAST.. no one else can get a warmer tone out of the instrument.

  • 100% Agreement! Tijuana Brass records were the first records my parents got for me. A&M Records 45's of this kind of music. Herb Alpert will always rule in my book!
