@ribenariver It is called creativity! The 80's were known for that. The videos seem random because they invite to logical thought or abstract constructs in a fun, non-complicated manner. The idea was for us to watch it and interpret the video in the manner in which our young thoughts dictated (at the time).

many of duran duran's videos were directed by russell mulcahy, a filmmaker. he may have been the first to come up with the concept for shooting music videos on location, as the early trend was to shoot them on a set. he said no one would fund him to shoot full-length films, so he used the four-minute music video platform for his creativity. the d.d. videos are indeed fabulous.
