this movie looks pretty fun, based on evolution vs. creation, I like the fact that just 2 brothers made the entire thing, called EVOLUTION CREEK, look it up!
@obiwanobiwan13 People have, people have tried to ban Huckleberry Finn, they even printed a new version where every N-word has been changed to slave, can you believe that?
@Tanzanite800 Yeah really. Man when I was in school if you didn't like reading a book you had NO CHOICE, you had to read it and answer questions about it on the test, no exceptions.
I think with his limited power to express his feelings what he meant was it portraying them in a negative light. The irony that they were tools for a totalitarian state was lost on him apparently. My favorite was "dirty talk" what the heck is that?
@Crazydog7 And if you look, that copy is not Fahrenheit 451 regular, it's Fahrenheit 451 and Related Readings, I have this book, and you can check the page numbers against what he's complaining about. Now, if memory serves, the 'dirty talk' in question is just hells and damns and stuff like that, but I'd have to go over it again to see. But look at his complaints, mentions of cigarettes and beer, drinking, he has a problem with this? His problems expand far past a book.
@AetheismRules I really don't get what his complaint about the firemen is because the firemen in Fahrenheit 451 are not our firemen. These are not the men who put out fires and help old ladies, these firemen set books on fire in a world where reading is outlawed. The two are not the same at all and we hope they never are.
@Crazydog7 Okay I got my copy out, dirty talk on pages 75 and 76, Montag saying damnedest snake, and Jesus God when he's talking about so many damn bombers, how the hell did they get up there every hour? And on page 76 he says the books might stop them from making the same damned mistakes and says he doesn't hear those bastards in the parlor talking about it. That's it, that's all the 'dirty talk' there is on those pages.
CONTINUED I have learned that either you can fight evil or you can just gather the flocks of those who will listen to you. Let God fight evil, didn't he say, "Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord, I will repay"? Yes he did. So give him the fight, you just gather. If someone doesn't want to go, let them alone they are exercising their free will. March forward and don't look back. I am not afraid of rejection for it is not I whom people reject, but God only. It's just people's opinion that God doesn't exist, so i fear nothing when someone doubts. That is just the way things are. I do believe in God and have proof that satisfies me and if it doesn't satisfy anyone else, well, then I don't fear that either. I'll say it proclaim it just the same. This video was done 6 years ago, anybody else wondering what it's like for that girl now that she's grown? I hate to think what it'll be like when she has kids if they'd ever get issued Fahrenheit 451 as a school assignment.
People seriously need to rethink what they put their energy into. This whole ordeal should've stopped at the point where the girl got an alternative reading assignment. Done. Problem solved. But these Christians (not all, of course) push to ban classic books... now that's just ignorant!
Ban a profane, blasphemous book? Never! Better to shove it down the throats of our impressionable teens, turning them into rebellious, God-hating delinquents. After all, isn't that the goal of our godless public school system?
All good-hearted people please vote this comment to the top.
@GlorifiedTruth It's a classic book with a good message. Have you read the book, yourself? You're overreacting by a long shot. I read it last year for school; and I assure you, no one went around condemning God, religion, ANYTHING. The POINT of keeping religion out of school is that schools are diverse, full of all religions and backgrounds. Putting religion into school is just WRONG. A classic novel that has little to do with religion isn't anything to be concerned about, seriously.
@GlorifiedTruth - Let's get the Bible out of there too. I don't want my kids reading Ezekiel 23:20.
But just between us, it's attitudes like the one you just voiced that make it easy for young people to reject religion. And if reading a book can make someone hate God, that sounds like a manufacturer's defect, not something you'll likely be able to repair with censorship.
This is terrifying. Farenheit 451 was written for the express purpose of preventing this exact situation: people denying education in favor of their own misconceptions, their happiness. Ignoring the truth in favor of a pleasant lie. I fear for our future if this is the state of those who control it.
So what happened in the end? Was the book banned at that school? Or was it permitted to remain. Kind of reminds me of Germany when they burned books. Sad, sad thing.
Banning Fahrenheit 451 is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. The point Ray Bradbury was trying to make is that book banning/burning is much more harmful than beneficial. He was showing us what society would be like if this were to continue, and by banning this book you are putting us one step closer to the future he envisioned.
@ThatWeirdo04 that is precisely the crazy christian's agenda!!! Ban the book that talks about "book banning" ensures the Crazy Christians their continued progress toward a Theocracy in America. I left America for a sane, truly freedom loving place, Europe (Germany). America is doomed if the religious fanatics are allowed to keep their inquisition going!!!
@ThatWeirdo04 Have you read Ray Bradbury's book A Pleasure to Burn? It's a bunch of short stories that he wrote prior to Fahrenheit 451 that really are a precursor to it, all talk about the great book fire in the year 2150 or something. One great story a guy creates his own House of Usher, and nobody knows what it is because they burnt Poe's books 200 years ago along with Lovecraft, Bierce, banned Halloween, anything to do with death or ghosts, cont...
@ThatWeirdo04 And then, the guy invites the people from the Society of Prevention of Fantasy to his house for what seems like a Halloween party, and they all get killed one by one in the manner of Edgar Allen Poe's stories and the guy explains their mistake was burning the books without reading them otherwise they would've known what he was doing. So it's kind of an extreme but it's a good example of why ignorance is dangerous.
The report was wrong about one thing. There was irony, but it wasn't about banning a book about banning books. Fahrenheit 451 was about how television destroys interest in reading literature, leading to knowledge being composed of factoids (partial information devoid of context). This describes the father's list of complaints: "talking about our firemen" doesn't mention these firemen start fires, not put them out.
The book didn't even show disrespect for the bible. Besides, the way I see it, This book was actually respecting the bible. The woman at the beginning stated that in the book, NO FREE THOUGHT was allowed, and the author had the bible be burnt, which means, the author knew about the power and effect the bible had on people, and thus, it's importance. Oh, and by the way...God and Science ARE 2 SIDES OF THE SAME COIN, don't you athiests see that? Think about how far humans have come...
ugh people will do anything to take a stab at christians even lumping christians with the majority are all athiest alike? are all muslims? do all hold the same truth or do some think this and others that its utter ignorance to use stupid and pointless videos like this that have a not so serious issue to bully christians everywere thats irony in and of itsself
I may have mentioned this before, but in cases where people want the book banned due to language, and that was the justification another family in Ohio used a few years back, you know, if you have a problem with your kid reading or hearing choice words, do you let them watch TV? Movies? Do you let them go out in public? Do they think everybody's using sweet widdle words at school everyday? Of all the dumb reasons to say ban a book, that is among THE dumbest.
I honestly view this girl and her father as terrorists and criminals. If they had their way they would create laws that if any school or library chose to violate it by keeping the book, they would face armed nazis with badges who would arrest them and jail them for refusing to violate the first amendment and kill them if they refused such unjust arrest and met them armed. This makes the girl and her dad terrorists for pushing this shit and the the girls dad at least, should face prosecutution.
if this book of fiction is to be banned then shouldn't some other books of fiction be banned? like the bible, the biggest book of fiction, for instance?
A lot of Christians are anything BUT Christian; hey are Old Testament Fundamentalists, in the sense that they believe more in the fire and brimstone of the Old Testament rather than following in the footsteps of Jesus and doing good in the world.
I myself am a christian. BUT! BUT!!!! I freaking love this book. I honestly never felt like my very soul was being threatened by reading this book.. but for all of you easily offended christians out there i want to share with you a technique that's always worked with me: DON'T. READ. THE. BOOK. works on tv too. if i feel offended by something, i simply don't read /change the channel. i don't make a fuss. i don't rant. i don't burn things. and i don't force my beliefs on others.
@lucyinthesky16 I'm a Christian too and I actively sought this book out of my own accord when I was 14 because I'd heard about it from TV, and I read it in one night and LOVED it. There is NOTHING in this book that for a Christian to like it it can be considered a conflict of interest; that dad and his kid need to get a clue. She especially does because she complained about the language, well in 10th grade books DO have bad language in them, to say nothing of movies and TV!
Why do these "Christians" think they have the special right to inflict their own stupidity down everyone else's throats? They don't have to read any book they dislike, they don't have to think, learn or grow intellectually, but why do they insist that the rest of the society remain as intellectually handicapped as they are?
@MattFrame hey there, actual sane christian here. I think a lot of "christians" are really messed up on the message. it's true, the bible does say that we have to "witness". but what that actually means is to just make sure everyone know christianity exists. now, a lot of christians are misunderstanding it as "make sure everyone does what you tell them." and i don't go for that. everyone in america knows what it is. if they want to be a christian, cool. if not, cool.
If the dumb bitch would have read it, the main character memorizes books of the bible to help preserve mankind's idea of theology. Fucking religious nuts always jumping the gun
ow! so this is happening in the so alleged to be the advanced civilized country invading the rest of the world to impose the principles of democracy and install secular regimes?! GREAT!
So Bible-burning is in the book. BUT THE BOOK TREATS BURNING BOOKS AS WRONG! The message in the book is clearly that book-burning (including the Bible) is wrong.
@finalsmasher Really! I swear, it's like when the show Dinosaurs came out in the 90s, and this senior citizen group wanted to boycott the episode where the 72 year old grandmother gets hurled into a tar pit, the creators of the show were saying 'did you even SEE the episode?', she didn't go into the pit, she went to live with her family!
Fuck that shit! Fahrenheit 451 is one of the best books I've ever read. Plus that bitch is ugly, nobody likes an ugly, closed minded, easily offended bitch
Right wingers like this guy are simply and truly unamerican and should be punished. They seek to manipulate what others can read in order to manipulate what they can think. For his attempt to violate the civil rights of others, he should face execution by hanging. He and those like him are total pieces of shit and are a defamation to this country and to the real values that are worth fighting for. He is totally unchristian and is no real texan by any means. Nor a real American.
Hominem unius libri timeo. The man obviously didn't even read the book. The protagonist Guy Montag was the back up copy of the Book of Ecclesiastes. I feel sorry for the girl though, I can relate to being raised by ignorant people who don't understand literature.
wow, it's a book, like when people say movies aren't real then video games aren't real (of course there not) but then they act like a book is a real thing. I guess stupid people are more influenced by books (the bible)
DON'T READ THE DAMN BOOK IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, BUT DON'T TRY TO BAN IT. Americans trying to ban a book just because it talks about burning their bible are IDIOTS and should get out of AMERICA. America is a free country. Every book published should be allowed.
@ACCSESS247 WRONG!! No books should be removed! In a free society we give kids acess to a variety of material that is appropriate to their age and then let them decide for themselves what they agree/disagree with.
who cares if gods name is takin in vain. ITS A BOOK PEOPLE, HOW DUMB CAN YOU BE!!!! THE BIBLE CAN BE MORE OFFENSIVE THAN THA, TEACHIN KIDS ABOUT VIOLENCE MURDER WAR RAPE AND FALS HOPE, WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!
stupid people usually breed stupid children as seen here and in some of these comments in approval of banning books. their precious bible is one of the most violent and corrupt books ever conceived by MAN.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE FUCKING MORONS? The book is entirely dedicated to how wrong it is to burn books but the stupid fucking bitch objects to literary DEPICTION of a bible burning? I guess stupid can't be washed off with soap huh!?
Now, I know what you're thinking, something along the lines of "you fucking idiot", but bear with me for a second.
Banning books give them that "forbidden" factor and encourage people to read them, if only to find out what all the fuss is about. In every case I've seen, an attempt to ban a book results in an increase in its readership.
@givingmantoo What does lobbying to have a dystopian future novel banned from school have to do with not having their faith challenged? I'm a Christian so please explain that to me, I find it very interesting since my faith and this book have nothing to do with one another.
Talking about how Christians are idiots and shouting slogans like, "BURN THE BIBLE!" aren't going to make anything better. Most of the people in the United States of America are Christian, they have the power and when you target them and sling mud at them it'll just make them worse. Be patient, be rational, and be kind. Help them to realize the message behind the books and stop being a jerk.
I feel so sorry for this child. She has no choice but to honor this misguided fool under threat of eternal torture.Be patient with her. If she can wrest control of her own thoughts from her parents one day she might have a chance, but not without some maturity and understanding from her more fortunate free-thinking peers. Please be kind and be grateful it's not you.
@UnstableNinja constant complaining his how they plan on turning the US into a Theocracy. That's why i left America!!! It's doomed to Christian Crazies!!!
WTF? I haven't read this particular book, But I'm assuming that the books message is AGAINST the burning of literature, INCLUDING the bible. So why would christians be AGAINST something that stands for freedom of speech, expression, and RELIGION? But then again, I never read the book, so excuse me if I am incorrect.
she only read the first couple pages, she doesnt even understand what the book is about! people need to not be so touchy and easily offended by stupid shit. if they woulda read the book they would know that it has a very good and important message. but once it says something about burning a bible they go "Lets get rid of it, its poison to our blessed ears!!"
@xbryman92x thats what the whole book is about. people censor books because they are touchy. the irony is fucking awesome here! this whole thing is funny. people need to stop being pussies.
I've lived in Houston my whole life and had to deal with people like this. Their parents are mostly repressed shells of their own parents who in turn are shadows of their own ancestors. Trying to speak with them about anything outside of the Christian bible is futile. They live in a cult.
"Wow, have you seen the photos from the Hubble?" "Oh those photos are just doctored propaganda that the heathens of this country use to try and discredit our great lord." "But...we live next door to NASA."
I am choking on my outrage here. My shock at the stupidity literally sits in my stomach like a bad case of indigestion. The irony being so completely lost on them was bad enough, but to then impose their own ignorance on others. Every time I think I have seen all the stupidity or sleazy deception these fundies are capable of, one of them will plummet to new depths and prove me wrong. Just makes me glad to live in a country that is both secular and where fundies are mostly laughed at.
My friend told me a few years ago that this group tried to ban Fahrenheit 451. I laughed at him and thought: "Who would be stupid enough to censor a book about censorship?" Honestly, I thought it was impossible for anyone to conceive of doing it. Then I saw this video......
Eventually all the religious idiots like this will be breed out, and the world will belong to the intelligent and rational, and from that point the human race can get on with evolving as one
All these people in the comments are hypocritical idiots...
You say that this book is not at fault for what people take from it, yet you are willing to say certain songs, marijuana or any drug for that matter, porn, fatty food, celebrities etc etc are responsible...
Until the system allows people to harm themselves we will always be steering towards dictatorships, its never the governments job to force someone to do what the government see's as best for them, ur all mindless idiots.
It's genius literature but you say there's no reason for it to be read?! Okay... Well maybe intelligent students will pick up the message you obviously failed to interpret, try reading farther than several pages please.
No expects the Inquisition!

TheBookWorm1718 2 months ago
@TheBookWorm1718 I agree!

READ. THE. BOOK. works on tv too. if i feel offended by something, i simply don't read /change the channel. i don't make a fuss. i don't rant. i don't burn things. and i don't force my beliefs on others.
lucyinthesky16 2 months ago

MattFrame 2 months ago 32
@MattFrame hey there, actual sane christian here. I think a lot of "christians" are really messed up on the message. it's true, the bible does say that we have to "witness". but what that actually means is to just make sure everyone know christianity exists. now, a lot of christians are misunderstanding it as "make sure everyone does what you tell them." and i don't go for that. everyone in america knows what it is. if they want to be a christian, cool. if not, cool.

I think banning books could be a good thing.
Also banning Fahrenheit 451? Fucking irony fail.
