  • What's the song at the two minute mark, guys?

    Thanks.

  • @4543563 The tape was from the radio on Long Binh of an Army knock-off of a real song from the 60's...but I can't come up with the name or group... Maybe someone remembers and will let us know...

  • @Olinux

These are the lyrics I figured out:

Woke/ride up this side today, to make all the/our ****, but there are moments sad/said, **** ride/right away, nows your chance to travel, pick a place and school you want, but theres **** ****, with your record ****.

The star sections are where I couldn't understand the words at all.

  • Hey uploader! Great job on this!

I'm surprised how clear the audio turned out.

  • That's right, you are in the Nam and you need a radio show to tell you to learn how to clean your weapon. Little late .

  • @bohdi316

    You're kidding? xD.

  • @bohdi316 Back then, they don't know how to clean their M16 because that's an automatic...

  • Wow. I just ran across this. I was at Long Binh Dec., 1969 to Feb 1971. I was a personnel clerk in Head Quarters Company. Attached to 56th APU. Your video really brings back memories.

  • Been down that road at 0:23 to 0:35 up to USRV many times 69-71 in a V17. Always had to down shift about half way up the hill. I think USRV aka "the house on the hill", is still there, but that is about all out on MacArthur Blvd. Thanks for the video, great work.

  • This is really great 8 MM. You always had to down shift the Duce and a half to make it up to USARV. It is one of the few places that have not been torn down. "Yet". A pallet of Carling Black Label fell off a PX truck on this street. So it got winched on to one of our Duce and a halfs. (For safe keeping of course) The Mps never did find out where it went to. The party was great.

  • I MAY HAVE THIS ON A SOUND CLIP: In April, 1970, a battle-damaged F-4 fighter-bomber, returning from a reconnaissance mission to survey a road being built by the Chinese toward Burma in northwest Laos, crashed into the AFTN station, killing nine of the Air Force broadcasters. This incident was the single worst catastrophe in the history of military broadcasting.

  • great stuff very interesting i like stuff like this-i have During a disturbing report of North Koreans knocking an American soldier to the ground at P'anmunjóm, what one might wonder to be the North Vietnamese chiming in on the issue occurs, as a mighty crash as loud as anything that came out of Fibber McGee's closet completely disrupts this AFVN news announcer's broadcast. & The AFVN "Dawn Buster" starts off with a bang -- or, really, a crash. HAVE AUDIO CLIPS MYSELF

  • Interesting Video! My Daddy was stationed there in the year 1971. He has had a relationship with a Vietnamese Women - she gave me free for adoption after my birth 1972. I'm searching my American Daddy. May he is reading this: Daddy, I'm alive, I'm living in Switzerland, I'm married, mother of 2 small children. You're a grandpa now. I'm missing you, Daddy!

  • GREAT AUDIO! I remember those radio broadcasts well.

Where did you get the audio track? I recorded some music off of the Armed Forces Network with my portable cassette recorder in the hooch but my tapes degenerated (much like I have) after 3 and a half decades since Long Binh. Great footage too. Thanks

  • @tuutuutango I made a reel 2 reel back then. converted them to cassette in the 90's and digitized the mp3's a few years back. They make interesting background audio for the old 8mm movies. Olin

  • Do you remember Cpt. Gober? He was a surgeon there. My father.

  • Thanks for posting - the video brought back memories - I use to eat at that "Loon Foon" restaurant - shark fin soup and other goodies. I served in Long Binh in 1970 for the 327th signal corps - not too far from that new PX that they opened in 1970. I have some footage of the Bob Hope Show there as well as random stuff. I was lucky though because I did not have to serve a full year there - I got a 2 month early out - thank you Nixon

  • A real blast from the past. I, too, was a "combat typist" with USARENGRCOMDV in Long Binh from '71 to '72. This does bring back "hooch life." Thanks for posting.

  • I worked in USARENGRCOMDV personnel in 1971. Lived in HHC USARENGRCOMDV. CW4 Fender was our Personnel Officer. SFC Fudala, Specialists Knapp, Hamer, Olson worked with me. Any of this sound familiar?

  • Ah, yes USRV HQ. I Worked for the Engineer Command pushing a typewriter in the office that was planning projects to be built through the late 70's. Later transferred to AFVN. That M-60 announcement is me. The Chu Hoi Program was recorded by Phil Davies.
