I've been playing for a week now and I was getting really discouraged until I heard you play. Man I don't care what it takes I have to get that sound. Thanks!
A simple soothing song that sounds so right on a harmonica. I played this song a lot when there was tension developing at my job at a state mental hospital. A number of staff members and patients would join in and sing. Great choice Ronnie.
hay your good shure wish you had some how to play blues harmonic stuff on line i have been trying to get the chugging as they call it down but i just can't get the reverb effect , can you give me any advice here ? jer
That was really good. I've watched your other videos like the funky blues ones and somewhere over the rainbow. Earier this week me and my friend decided we wanted to both play harmonica, and so I decided to start looking some stuff up. Well, now that I've watched you, man, I have no choice but to buy one! You've really inspired me! I think I'll probably go for the Hohner special 20 marine band harmoica. I've heard it's a good and solid one to start with. Man, I can't wait to play!
I have finally decided to stop putting it off and get myself a harmonica and play the heck out of it like my main men Sugar Ray Norcia and Kim Wilson. I know nothing about the instrument but really want to play it so can you reccomend a good harmonica for begginners that is still good enough to get a lot of use out of? Particularly one I can play the blues with. You are awesome man. Really, really cool and an inspiration.
Like Ronnie said, I like the Hohner Special 20. Mine was best after I took apart and got some 600 grit sandpaper and rounded off the edges of the plastic corners. It was hurting my hands. Also, the plastic doesn't make my mouth as raw like the wood of the Hohner Marine Band. I bought a Golden Melody and don't really care for it. I find it hard to hold and my mouth gets lost on the ends and overshoots the holes. I think the next one I get (when I try a new key) will also be a Special 20.
Ronnie, your grandmother sang this to you, as she did to me. Your mother also sang it to you and now sings it to her grandchildren. Hopefully, this will continue for many more generations. Dad
Let me be the first to post some criticism on my own video. I played this song in cross harp..learned it right before recording the video. Then I played it in straight harp and ya know i really prefer the straight version much better(no bends). Just seems to fit the song better...oh well..maybe i'll re-do it or at least post the other version.
I didn't even notice. but now that you mention it I can sorta catch where you did those bends. either way it still sounds great to me. key of d huh? that means i can play this song too haha.
This is still my favorite.

Hey runnie, are you left handed?
I'm left handed, is it a problem for playing harmonica?
And i love all of your song!
chefdux 3 years ago
no..left handed is not a problem at all.
If you play the holes with the 1 to the left and 10 to the right, you should always hold the harmonica in your left hand to get an effective cup/wah
RonnieShellist 2 years ago
what are the holes for this?

Cool, it was simple but it sounded nice. Did your father ever play a harmonica?
StevenT0 4 years ago
No, he did buy the first harmonica that i ever played.
He was going to learn himself but i ended up with it instead. He did play some nice tunes on the organ when I was younger.
RonnieShellist 4 years ago
Cool, so in a way he helped influenced your interest in the harmonica? Wow, the organ huh? Thats pretty neat.
