  • I like this

  • @glowNthedarkkid he did a quad toe in his freeskate, which he underotated, so he was marked down on his GOE. So I can't imagine him doing a quad triple double if he can't do that. Just saying...I like him, don't get me wrong, but I don't think this is the right jump.

  • I think it's a triple triple double, I didn't know he could do quads.

  • Comment removed

  • @noey1965 he did a quad toeloop at the 2006 world championships, which i'm pretty sure is where this video was taken

  • i really wish he would have put a quad in one of his programs.. i know he could have landed it!

  • What a GORGEOUS combination. He makes all jumps look so easy.

  • Yup Johnny rotates the opposite way of most skaters.

Like Rafael Nadal...antoher uber-genius who is naturally right handed has made millions & millions of dollar playing tennis left-handed.

Love Johnny. Love Rafa. They do what they do --- backwards.

  • wow this girl can jump.

  • @princessjo86 i think its a guy...

  • @princessjo86 its a guy...JOHNNY weir...there are a lot of male skaters...

  • In my opinion>>Yes Johnny Weir is better style than Lysacek

  • Wow, perfect!

  • The way he took his time throughout that combination and still had the speed, only something Johnny Weir can do.

  • Johnny is so full of 'awesome' it's insane. :)

  • He's a very enciteful guy. And a talented skater. Hard to believe that he started at 12 and is that good then and now. He's a skater that people need to listen to instead of believing what the media says about him.

  • Guys, it **WAS** a 4-3-2. Look closely!

  • That was a triple, sorry to break it to you.

  • perfect.!!!

  • it was 4-3-2 he could've made the double loop into a triple but i guess not?

  • it's quad double double

  • @drolederic it's a 4-3-3 look closer

  • @brstith yeah right......dont tell anyone let it be our secret

  • @brstith 4-3-2, I meant

  • @brstith

    FAIL

    4-3-2 noob

  • how come he didnt do the quads at the olympics? i thought he couldnt do them, but seeing this, he's great at it

  • @rumpole33 i practice at the same rink as him sometimes! And i saw him try a quad be4 the olypics and it wasnt to pretty

  • @devonport1029: i see, that's a shame. if he could have done it, he would have at least placed 3rd, maybe, instead of 6th.

is it because he doesnt have a lot of leg muscles? i know he has some, but he's awfully thin.

  • I think that for most of russian figure skating fans (not just sport fans who switch their TV only beacuse of Olympics) that undermarks, this pervert judge that left Weir the 6th was more disappointment than Plushenko silver medal.

  • He is absolutely the most beautiful skater the sport has ever seen.

  • amazing

  • As much as i love Patrick Chan, Johnny Weir is absolutley talented. And im sorry to say that i dont udnerstand why patrick placed ahead of him... but i guess its ok. GO CANADA :}

  • His Quad was so easy..Good luck, Jonny, from Russia. And see you soon at Pljushhenko show 31.03.2010 in Moscow!!!!!

  • I guess Johnny will feel upset if he hear some of his fans saying he should have taken the silver medal instead of Plushenko...

  • He is like, my gay boyfriend haha

  • I much prefer Johnny Weir to Lysacek. Johnny was terribly under marked in Vancouver, how they could have put Chan ahead of him is a mystery.

  • I agree, he got underscored. He should have gotten at least bronze. What really gets me is how disrespectful Placenko was with his silver. They should have given it to Weir.

  • Well, Plushenko maybe said some things in the heat of the moment that he now regrets, however I do feel, on balance, that he should have won and obviously if you feel you were robbed you might feel a bit sore for a while. Can any of us truly say that we've always been gracious in defeat when we genuinely believed we should have won? I didn't have Lysacek in the top 3.He was slow, uninspiring and frankly boring.

  • @npe1

we all know lambiel and weir got robbed more than plushy, who did not execute jumps beautifully.

  • I completely agree. Lysacek did really well in his long program, I will admit, but Johnny's performance deserved the silver, at least. He outdid Plushenko, especially in the long program.

  • @npe1

    I totally agree with you....

Judges pushed Chan ahead of him just to let him do exhibitions...

and plus, he is Canadian and Olympics was done in Canada....

what a bullshit.... Well... Audience knew his marks were way too low.

  • @yi81 Didn't the audience boo his marks? Lots of people were saying how low they were, but Johnny was so gracious about it, which makes me want him to have been marked better even more! If he had been bitter or offensive about being marked down everyone would have been less sympathetic, but the fact he appeared to be marked down and then was so nice about it. I seriously admire him. Class skater, classy person.

  • @subtlemagic

Yeah, there was an OBVIOUS booing.... I even booed with the audience over the television. I love Johnny Weir. I love his skating and his personalities. I heard that new senior boy named Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN) is fan of him too and got his costume designed by him! Johnny is the figure skater to be admired by next generation :)

  • @npe1 I completely agree. Johnny was just something special to watch, his grace, flexibility, and artistry just surpassed most other male skaters for me, including Evan.

  • skillz

  • It makes me so angry how the news tries to de-legitimize his accomplishments and only focus on how "flamboyant" he is! He is so much more than that!

  • It's true. People only see him crying after performances, or wearing his overdone outfits, or flicking his wrist when he talks and they completely ignore how completely effortless he can make skating seem. He does quads and triples without a bobble. I've never seen him fall. His footwork as as clean as I've seen any skater manage, and his spins are very good. If he conformed, he'd get solid 10s. But he doesn't, and he gets downgraded for being 'too gay'. It's such a JOKE!

  • cap,.... its just like in a primitive civilization now, in a stoneage, when people are not able to understand such a thing scientifically like beign gay, its just hypothalamus in brain is femalish in a gay man, and this makes the boy behave like a girl, its just proven scientifically and yet dinosauruses of today (all religious crapy people, all conservatives) understand nothing. its just sad... so sad... johnny is a great skater...

  • @vicko77 Femalish???? what a scientific word!

  • @raynen2003 i like the made-up words... its just too intelectual, just leave it :D.

  • @capnquack

that's crazy that all judges and sport journalists they know for sure that the greates male figure skaters of 60s-70s and partially of 80s they were gays or bisexuals

And they are still GREAT, so pity Johny did not get Olympic medal

  • I just can't get over how fantastic this guy is. He makes it look so effortless - and I know it's not!!!

  • That was an amazingly graceful effort! So relaxed and fluid!

  • You're nuts if you think this is "easy" for ANYONE. Just look at the injuries typical professional skaters suffer through their careers. And the muscles needed: major back muscles to sustain all those archs and forward leans, MEGA core muscles for balance, and of course the leg muscles. Stamina too. I don't skate, but I dance, and you'd be amazed the amount of working out I have to do to develop the muscles to do spins and jumps (it's WORSE as a girl, because I don't develop muscles as easily).

  • There's nothing 'easy' about figure skating-for anybody.

  • @IowaBabe13

    Oh, ya. Thanks.

  • that was amazing

  • Hey actually did a Quad toe loop, triple toe loop, double loop.

  • Quad lutz, triple flip double loop. Can someone please comment if I got that wrong, thank you.

  • WOW hes amazing i tried a single and i fell i thought it would be easy becasuse johnny makes it look that way but trust me its not lol ROCK ON JOHHNY

  • soooooo good. love you Johnny!

evan lysacek is great too, very powerful and precise...but no one touches johnny! well...except other men LOL!

  • I love Evan but Johnny has this artistic aura that's soo capturing lol

  • @donadthegonad - I doubt that at your advanced age you can even reach down to lace your own skates, much less "quad-triple-double".

  • wow, amazing!!!

  • Holy mother of god he made that look easy.

  • Johnny can do it all, and is one of the most artistic skaters of all times.

Pressure in competition is something most of us humans don't confront. Doing a quad on TV in front of judges & zillions of people & competing with other great champions...

    hard.

Doing it in practice, relaxed, and beautiful as Johnny is...

    Thanks for posting!

  • that was wonderful !

  • i never realized he's a lefty skater

  • He learned to do quad? Really? WOW! Super :)

  • he's my favorite male skater!

  • Huh. is it just me or does he rotate clockwise? that's so interesting!

  • He rotates the opposite direction of most figure skaters, I rotated in that direction when I skated too. =)

  • Yeah, I thought so. That's really cool and unique! :D

  • aww why dont u skate anymore? were u good?

  • @Shatterpoint I do as well. I was a nightmare for my coaches!

  • @Shatterpoint

Nooo most skaters are righties. Johnny is a lefty. Like me! ^_^

  • @MieMegaLove I'm a beginning adult figure skater, just starting work on my waltz jump and two foot spin. I can't wait to figure out which direction I'll be jumping and spinning "for sure." Right now, I can somewhat spin in both directions, and feeling more comfortable jumping right-y (although have jumped some to the left). Thank goodness my coach can jump and spin in either direction equally well. :)

  • @RubikCuber1 He's always rotated clockwise.

Johnny did everything different. He came to skating older & with no money. He was born to do it.

To me, he's one of the most beautiful skaters/athletes/artists I've ever seen.

  • WOAHH!!! DAYUMM!!!

  • whoa! that was so effortless. I wish he would finally do it in competition.

  • Sasha Cohen and Johnnny Weir are my favouritez 4 life

  • DAMN that man is the most beautiful skater EVER!! he is my favorite :)

  • I didnt believe it at first, but counting his head spinning on each jump it goes down 1 each jump and the second one is most obviously a triple so I am convinced finally that Johnny can do a quad/triple/double combo. BRAVO JOHNNY! I LOVE YOU JOHNNY!!

  • that was good !

  • I am only doing a double Axel and double Lutz, but I had always wondered if I can do it as a clockwise/counter-clockwise combo.

It is theoretically legitimate, but nobody practically tried, and I've had trouble just landing a counter-clockwise Lutz by itself.

  • I've always felt a great jump combo would be a triple axel followed by triple lutz. Its perfect, you land the axel on a back outside edge and you begin the lutz on a back outside edge, it would just be awkward to jump the opposite direction but wow how cool that would be to see it in action. toss on a double loop and you got the hardest combo. Even harder than a quad which is so common place now.

  • well johnny does all his jumps "the other way." it is like being left handed. Some people roatate one way, some feel more comfortable the other way.

  • why cant he do it like that in competition... wait... never mind... dont answer that... =]

  • wat?

  • LOL nothing...

  • no rlly, wat

  • i was just wondering why he cant do the quad triple doeble combo like that in competition but then it make me realize why i cant land my triples in competition so i just was like ok...

  • haha, same. but im working the double axel and triple sal. got any tips for me?

  • oh thats cool!!! im working on triple flip, triple lutz, and triple axel. but i dont work on triple axel very often. i kind of just started working on it.

sure... well... how close are you to it? if you find your self under rotaiting, you are probably not staying on you left toe pick long enough so you can go to your right side and get into the rotation quick... um... idk if thats helpful to you cause idk how it looks and yeah.. want to end me a video? i can try to video my jumps and yeah..

  • thanx! i actually dont have a video camera. sals and loops are my favorite. i hate toe jumps! i looooove edge jumps. and wow, triple axel!!!!!!!! wat level are u?! im intermediate

  • oh really? i like all jumps but sals. they are a pain in the butt. HAHA well... its a little confeusing.

i just moved up to novice.

i skated for like 7 years but only once a week then one day i skated a public session and saw a girl doing axels(and at the time, i was only on a single toe loop) then i said i want to do that so when i turned 15 i started working on it then now im 17 and can do up to a triple lutz and working on triple axels.

i know... im super weird. =] LOL HAHAHA

  • that is kinda weird. did u make it 2 nationals!!!

  • no...=[ i was competing at centrals and i fell on so many things. =[ but i was sick and injured so whatever. my coach said i didnt have to compete because of that but i did anyways.

  • oh cool!!!!!!!! i struggle with sals... they arent my favorite. their my least. LOL i can give you tips... but idk how your jumps look like... want to send a video? i want to video my triples and upload it. but i always forget... =[

  • AWESOME! I LOVE YOU JOHNNY!

  • I think it means something. It proves he's capable of landing not just a quad, but a quad combo.

Besides, he got credit for a quad at nationals, albeit not in combination. I think it's only a matter of time until he pulls off an entirely clean one, and then put it in combination.

  • Except it doesn't really set him apart from other skaters; most of the top men should be able to do it. 4-3-2 isn't a new thing either. Some people have landed the quad lutz or loop in practice-- but its not newsworthy unless its in competition.

  • True, but I like how he jumps much better than some of the other skaters who simply muscle through it, his seem more graceful. I think the grace of it might set it apart a bit.

  • oh it definitely does, and he has such edge quality, it's not all about the quad. he has a gorgeous triple axel-triple toe. he's a very unique skater. i think he's just beautiful :-)

  • Who's landed the quad loop in practice?? I'd love to see that! I've seen Elvis Stojko land the quad lutz in practice, but who else has done it cleanly (as in fully rotated)?

  • evgeni plushenko can do all of the quads!

  • he can't do a quad axel

  • well except that of course. if he landed that it'd be all over the news! when miki ando landed the first quad by a lady it was all over the news

  • yeah that's true.

  • OK, but is this actually based on reality or are you just a crazy fan lol

I remember Plushenko trying the quad lutz, but aside from his usual toe-loop, that's it. Is there actual video or evidence of a real human being landing a clean quad loop?

  • actually he can do quad loops! he was in an interview and they were showing all of the quads he can do. he can do the quad salchow, toe, loop, and lutz. im actually not sure of the quad flip though

  • I wish I had seen that. Too bad he never pulled them out in competition. I'd imagine that the flip and the loop would be the most difficult to rotate 4 times...

  • yess.

  • When people want to count rotations they don't need to look at how easy it looks, how deep it is picked, or the quality of the body position, they just COUNT THE ROTATIONS. 1, 2, 3, 4 . . . it is a quad.

  • leaning forward is a horrible thing to do and u shouldn't drive your toe in the ice either. it's not good. it's all about how much knee bend u get.

  • check again.

  • gawd. *sigh* he's really good, i wish i could be that "fluid" on the ice!

  • he's BRILLANT.

  • Wow! I hate Johnny Weir, but I have to say that was beautiful!

  • omg why do u hate him?

  • WOW!! YAY JOHNNY!

  • WOW! Why don't we see this in a competition??? You can do it, Johnny, so go and kick their a**** the world's!!

  • johnny makes EVERYTHING look easy...if he gets through all his programs cleanly at worlds everyone else better watch out!

  • I love this...you can see his hands are still poised the entire time...unlike Plushenko, who has barely any artistry.

  • i think plushenko is a beautiful skater but not necessarily in an artistic way. he has his own form of artistry

  • that is so gorgeous!

  • was this a warm up for a competition or a practice?

  • he probably has one of the nice quad i ever seen. but thats just my opinion.

  • thats like the perfect quad ever! it's flawless!!!!!

  • Amazing. That's as clean as it gets. He made that look very easy.

  • i know rite!!!

  • ok it's a quad....but can he land it in competition?

  • shut up! i doubt you can't do one or even close to one. can't you just say that it was great? your jealous, and don't deny it. oh and yes, he has done it in competition before

  • lol...don't get al fussy; it's a legit question. I don't think I've ever seen him land one in competition. BTW; do you know that you really said: - I'm sure you can do one of those - when you said: "I doubt you can't do one."

  • Maybe squirrelmilk has a point; it is a perfectly legitimate question!

  • he's never actually landed it cleanly in competition, he's only two-footed it in competition.

  • yea, but even two footed its still amazing. im sure it'll be even better this upcoming season

  • true. he'll always get better, i just know it.

  • Let's just hope that he can be consistant enough this year to land in competition and kick Lysacek's ass! Maybe he'll surprise us all at Nationals this year- who knows?

  • dude this is a PERFECT quad

  • It's technically a Quad but he pre-rotated on his toe-pick quite a bit...

  • hey, It's a quad for sure. You don't need the slow-motion video, you just need media player for seeing it's a quad. Count rotations with Freezing frame it. Then You'll see it's definitely a quad.

  • This is just perfect.. He did a quad combo beautifully in the 2007 Nationals warm up along with the 2006 CoR warm up as well for anybody interested in seeing a video. They are both uploaded on youtube.

  • The video was taken in the fall of 05 I think and I'm pretty sure it was a quad, otherwise it would have looked even easier for Johnny.

  • Does anyone have a slow-motion version of this, or know the place where I could download one? I'm very excited for Worlds . . . if he has a quad combo -- there's no doubt that he could be the next World Champion! :)

  • If you need slow motion to tell, you have no business telling others what it is. it's a Quad, triple, double combination. I fail to see the ambiguity.

  • What's the matter with being skeptical especially when he makes so many excuses not to do it in competition? Unless he does it in competition, it's worthless!

  • That's not what I have issue with. I have issue with you telling people, quite ignorantly, that it's not a quad when it is. You simply aren't informed enough so please, stop preaching.

  • How immature are you? The issue is whether this is a quad or not. I could care less what your other issues are, and I'm sure nobody else here is interested. If you're going to post, do it to rectify the issue and preach crazy elsewhere.

  • If being able to tell that 4 rotations = quad is crazy, then call me crazy. If your version of sanity is blindness, then have at it.

  • wasn't his quad underrotated in worlds this year so it got downgraded to a triple? At least he medaled though...

  • Yes, it was downgraded... though I haven't watched his freeskate from Worlds in awhile, I remember being surprised... I think the quad from Nationals and the quad from Worlds were about the same quality, but the one from Nationals was given credit as a quad.

  • That has most likely to do with them being stricter internationally than nationally.

  • Perhaps, though I am pretty sure that at least one of the quads he's tried internationally was fully rotated, but he didn't get credit for the full rotation.

  • That's not a quad -- it's a tripe toe, triple toe, double loop. Count the rotation by the number of times you see his face during the first jump of the combination.

  • its a quad compair the speed of the rotation to the triple afterwards

  • Yeah, definitely a quad. He would open up much earlier if it was a triple. Wow, beautiful!

  • mhh I am not sure the first jump is a quad.

  • when was this video taken?

  • wow!
