OMG - this is astonishing! What immaculate coloratura! I have never heard her sing this before, but those top notes are so sweet and clear and accurate. It's completely beguiling!
I love how precise and shimmery her runs are... it's weird hearing it in German, but it sounds very pleasant, and oh gosh, those top notes!!! Love love love!!!!!!
Although Hallstein was NOT that well known in America, there is currently a commercial DVD avaialble containing of about three-quarters of the operetta WIENER BLUT with Hallstein absolutely MARVELOUS as Graefin Zedlau. Dagmar Koller as Franzi and Ferry Gruber as Josef, represent other not-that-often-photographed superstar of the period.
Didn't her 'Dunque io son' (also in German) used to be up here somewhere? I really miss that... she had some of the sweetest, most musical runs towards the end, replete with glittering staccati.
There is nothing NOT to like in this performance: Hallstein's creamy, soothing tone--a gentle "vipera"--is typical of that of German lyric-coloraturas (Kurz, Ivogun, Hempel, Abendroth, Koth, Streich) and her florid ornamentation is always neat and sometimes astonishing. She even sustains the high note at the end in contrast to Kurz, Hempel, and Ivogun. My only slight criticism is the fact her tone is generic, that is, similar to several other coloraturas of her school. But the singing is great.
Simple, fresh, technically perfect, musically too. Hallstein knew how to sing in a natural way (no matter if the piece was german, italian or french music). Sje is "il mio tesoro"!
Astounding! It's a pity about some fuzzy crackling in the recording. It's true what another viewer said: she's more than a vocal acrobat: she's also an artist. More, please!
Ich kann so zärtlich sein. For that she sings german, i would like to understand more text, even when it is meaningless love blabla. In a way its far better, when they sing French or Italian, what i dont understand to not get in clinch with the meaning(lessness). Always thought, that German is a horrible language to sing in, but she proves otherwise. Lakmè
and this little arie her are that great pieces of art, the way she does it, and whatever she sings she does it her own distinktness.
The world amazes me! Every day you can discover new talents that you didn't know existed. What a treasure she is. Her coloratura is crystalline, and her interpolated runs match the unique dna of her voice. Thanks Dillon!
@coloraturafan2 I have to agree this is totally whole to itself and Lovely.....hehe if it were not for the german....ehehe.....sorry....thanks coloraturafan2....
On est assez loin de Rossini et de Rosine mais sous forme d'air de concert la pyrotechnie de cette voix un peu vide est aguichante!

Could someone upload the Dunque io son? As wonderful as the Una voce is, I think she really shines when she sings the duetto!
