However it turned out that the person who was supposed to kill her was actually Sherlock,who whispered to her to run.

So in all likelihood she is still alive.

Remember that although the Reichenbach (sorry if spelled wrong) Falls portrayed his apparent death, he was ressurected for more stories. So even though this series has the Reichenbach falls in it, there's still a chance he could live for more series' .

Incidentally it seems a bit of a paradox, which may or may not be addressed in-episode. Sherlock is aloof and standoffish with just about everyone, even his own brother, and wouldn't say something as vulnerable as that if he actually didn't consider John a friend.

I've NOT seen this yet so I can't possibly be spoiling, but my interpretation of "I don't have friends" is that Sherlock's just spent half an episode being outwitted by Irene Adler. Possibly Mycroft too. Since his ONLY self-esteem comes from being smarter than everyone else and he feels it's the only thing he's got going for him, he now feels like complete and utter shit. But we'll see when it airs, I suppose.

@Jeowyn -- Actually, in the books, in canon, Irene is the only woman - and one of four people(?) - to have ever outwitted Holmes; this is one of the factors influencing his...affinity for her.  Also Mycroft is said - in the books, in canon - to be smarter than Sherlock, but lazier; and, therefore, does not appear [to be] as smart.

Sherlock is a most brilliant man. His smartness and wit, however, are only two of his wonderful aspects/strengths. :-)

@sierra087 Indeed, but he seems not to know that. Meeting strangers is an exercise in LOOKIT ME! I'M SMART! for him. Mycroft's abilities might be one of a few reasons why he resents him (there's apparently also backstory concerning their parents that will come out at some point.) Although he does come to respect Irene because of her mental qualities, he's still trying to outwit her here, and (from what I hear and it's only been vague) fails utterly and becomes depressed mid-episode.

I get the feeling that the 'no friends' is part of Sherlock's plan to get John away, if its in ep3. Knowing what the Reichenbach fall is and that even in the book Sherlock didn't want John there. In any case I can't wait!

I think it might have something to do with breaking ties with John, knowing that they're going to die (assuming the scene is from reichenbach and they are tied up due to moriarty). Up until this point, Sherlock hasn't really had anything important to lose, he thinks he's invincible. But knowing that they are in this situation, it could be that he either wants to break ties because he doesn't know how to handle this situation this relati
