I have to say, this is my favorite album that Metallica ever made, (my opinion) but they let all true hardcore Metallica fans down at the start of the Black album, everything from that album and up sucked, from And Justice for All and back is what put Metallica on top of the metal food chain. In those days, if you listened to Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer, you were considered very extreme metal. Most of the other kids were into Motley Crue and all the new wave stuff on MTV at the time. And the break dance music, early rap and Michael Jackson. I lost a lot of friends for listening to Metallica. Today, I know that sounds impossible, but it was a very freaky thing to be a fan of in 1985.

In 85, I brought back my copy of Scorpions Blackout to Camelot Records for an exchange. The store didn't have any other copies. Then at random I picked up this cassette off the wall and told the yuppie guy at the counter to put it in the front desk tape player to make sure the tape worked. He yanked out his Police or Blondie or whatever tape and stuck in Ride the Lightning. The soft part started playing and he's like, "Is this classical music?" Then the next part came & he yanked the tape out.
