I'm afraid I don't completely understand your response. Are you describing me as articulate and specific or as arrogant and belittling? If the latter, then I'm sorry; that was not my intention. It doesn't take a conservatory education to appreciate that the intonation is unaccceptably off in this performance. The ICCA's adjudicators' tastes and personal style preferences are irrelevant; if they elect winners who manifestly can't sing in tune over those who can, they're going to look like idiots.
@leoleoleo7859 Only second time ever hearing them, not really a committed loyalist. Why wasn't your first comment as articulate and specific as the 2nd one, instead of the degradation? The arrogant tone of the "Let me show you my amazing conservatory education to belittle you with my "facts", is what really draws the ire. If you're gonna go flat, go flat together. My experience with attending the ICCA; they're not crazy about the full on acts. Agreeing with that is another argument all together.
Sorry, but it's time to call a halt to the formation arse-licking in these comments. In technical terms, these performances are as ropey as hell. Call me old-fashioned, but I do think ICCA might have chosen a winning group that knew, for instance, how to hold pitch. PS's intonation here is very far from perfect, especially in the second and third numbers. How can you possibly have a "champion" acapella group that can't sing in tune?
@StateOfTheInitiative No, it's nothing to do with the recording quality. The two lead singers in the first song can't keep their head voices in tune; the second song starts in Fminor and drifts WAY flat (and the modulation is a disaster); the third song starts in C and finishes very nearly in Dflat. Holding pitch is simply about discipline and technique, and these PS "musicians" haven't got any of either. And don't get me started on their rhythmic and tonal shortcomings....
@StateOfTheInitiative And who mentioned American Idol?? If you want to compare PS to something, why not try the (equally bootleg) recording of Vocal Point's performance in the same competition? VP's singing is bang in tune and time throughout (and no, I'm not a VP groupie - I'm just pointing out that VP clearly wiped the floor with PS on this occasion).
It's a shame that so many commenters are so unthinkingly partisan that they allow their loyalties to cloud their judgment.
this is just my opinion but i thought that vocal point was a lot more entertaining than these guys. but regardless congrats to theses guys for the win
@StuddHoss VP is loads of fun--love their choreo, and Tanner kicks ass on percussion. But musically, imho, Pitch Slapped was definitely better--their vocals and arrangements were flat-out soul-stirring.
I dont understand why they got the last place on Sing Off if the are the best on ICCA

@leoleoleo7859 Probably because it's through a shitty home recording and your stereo is broken. You should check that out.
It's a shame so many seem to think American Idol is the standard for how music is to be performed.

How did the "Taking it to the Streets" soloist not win the best soloist in the competition? Definitely right up there with the kid from Vocal Point.

How on earth did Ingrid not win best soloist for this? That's just wrong...
