I know that. You can actually use search even without opening the dialer.
But what's the point of opening Phone application default on dialer, if almost every time you'll look for a contact and never dial the number directly ?!?!
You need to shift your paradigm. The phone dialer is just that...a key pad. Search your contacts for names to dial. You can also star your favorites and the phone is smart enough to keep track of your most used numbers. Additionally you can create a folder in which you can place dial shortcuts to you most frequently dialed numbers.
After opening the dial pad click on the search button on the bottom right. Start typing the person's name you are trying to find. All matches will appear in a drop-down. Problem solved.
that sucks man, is it so dificult to do a smar dialer?? come on google. htc did a great job.
