  • Sounds like WALL-E having sex with a Speak and Spell!

  • Fucking gay FEATURE LOL!!!

  • A former car of mine was a 1986 Lebaron GTS sedan/hatchback with the 2.2 turbo, red inside & out. One day, my neighbors pickup went bad on him so he came over and borrowed my car. Upon his return, he told me "that's the first vehicle he ever had that talked to him" and took him by surprise and said that's the kind of vehicle his teenage daughter should have.

  • LOL I like the surprise of people's faces when my New Yorker "talks". ahaha Now imagine it with the voice of Night Rider's car. =)

  • Was it previously owned by John Voight?

  • I had this car. It was pretty cool until the head cracked. The seats were like lazy boy recliners...The voice was cool unless you had three in a row, then you were like STFU!!!

  • It there anyway I can buy this system so my car can talk? Where can I get it?

  • Grandfather got a 88 Lebaron Turbo that had the same feature. He got it for free from working on a old lady's car untill she couldnt drive no more. He and my dad own a shop. They work on mainly mopars. Alot of old women when they cant drive no more donate their cars from race prodjects. We get alot of 2.2/2.5's and some with the turbos :)

  • Great cars! Hey man, check out my music ;)

  • same here, I'm geting his car.

  • Wow, someone's told her "The Computer is malfunctioning, and will shut down"

This whole voice notification feature, I think was pretty ahead of its time.

There are a lot of people who are also freaked out by dingers, buzzers and chimes and don't know what they mean so this is great for the people that need voice commands. It's funny that it was phased out because I'd say lots of people on the road don't know how to properly operate a vehicle so lots of people these days could use this!

  • Apparently people couldn't deal with their car telling them what was wrong. I had an '85 Laser that once told me to check my coolant level. Turns out it had a bad head gasket and that warning saved my engine!

  • That's great! Chrysler was pretty ahead of their time back then. Most cars from that era didn't even have coolant level sensors that even trigger a warning light!

  • is that a secuuritysystem or what??

  • No security system

  • Does this car use a seperate key for the door locks and trunk?

  • Yes, they have a different shape

  • @youtoobe169 No wonder I can only open my trunk from the inside. Duh!

  • my grand parent use to own this car, my grand father crashed this car on the way back home to Salt Lake City because of Dimension so we stop driving

  • that fucking beautifull, Lexus don't come even close

  • Thanks, i'd have to agree :)

  • Thats what today's Chrysler luxury sedans should be like. Chrysler should have kept up with the e-body sedans. The New Yorker didn't even have the EVA in the 90's.

What happened to todays luxury cars?

  • For the most part I agree, but i drove a 2007 Mercedes S550 today for a couple hours and all I can say is WOW

  • I know you don't own it anymore, but if you can remember, was your New Yorker fuel injected or carburetted? If carb, do you know when Chrysler introduced fuel injection on the N.Y?

  • It was fuel injected, and I think the FI came out in 1984 on the turbo models.

  • Thanks.

  • all turbo's were FI, all 2.2 were fi 85+, all 86 2.5 were FI. Only the mitsu 2.6 in 85 was carb and an aweful motor to boot.

  • I wouldn't doubt it. I'm not a carb fan, anyway. Thats why I wanted to know. I would love to own a New Yorker sometime during my life!

  • Thanks for the video. It's been at least six years since I've heard the voice of a New Yorker.

  • Haha "The Voice of a New Yorker" sounds like a dramatic movie

  • yours car is nicer than the olds and shelby

  • thank you

  • Did the 1986 Chrysler New Yorker with the digital dash ever come with the regular chime or just the EVA system?

  • I am not sure if you could get it without EVA

  • I think that in 1986, the EVA was standard. My mom had an '86 New Yorker, and she said that there was a switch or a button in the glove compartment that turned it off.

  • I want your car!!!!!!!!!

  • lol I actually already sold it to friends

  • dude i want this car it is amazing!!!! it is more advanced than cars now a days

  • Yeah, they got rid og this technology because the average consumer didn't want it. I can't imagine!

  • This is so cool! I wonder why it never caught on with other car companies? I'm guess too expensive and would annoy most people. Plus putting a human voice to a machine is kinda creepy.

  • Apparently consumers didn't like it all that well because they only did that for a couple years.

  • this is too cool...

  • Totally Awesome!

  • hehe yeah i think its pretty cool

  • the voice chip in there is the same one from the speak and spell.

  • hmmm, now i want to hear a speak n spell!

  • My grandma had this car and it Talked to .

  • Is there a way to replace the chime in a 1996 Ford Aerostar or a 1996 Ford Taurus with the EVA system heard in this Chrysler?

  • I am sure there is, but it would require very extensive rewiring. There is someone online who has done something like it, you can try googling it.

  • it even said thank you when you took out your key! good 'ole 80's tech gota love it!

  • It says thank you when you put your seatbelts on too lol

  • Please post soms vids of the rest of sentences. Really would like to see how the rest of the dash looks like. Very nice car BTW.

  • does it say "please fasten your seat belts", if so post a video of it saying this!

  • There are videos where they are offroading with them <_<

Could you post soms vids of more sentences and from driving the car? :P

  • Sure, might take me a few days but I would be happy too.

  • Actually, you might be right. I've played your video about 10 times now and I still find it a great feature! XD haha

Are you taking good care for the car? It seems to be in good shape :)

My Le Baron has a chime. It would be fun if I could show off to my friends with that kind of speech thing :P But I already can do that enough. Most Dutch people are not familiar with American car standards (read: luxury) :P

  • Oh yes, I take great care of the car - I need to rely on it for 1000 miles per week :)

  • Why are you one of the very few Americans who like a car of that age? :)

  • I like the Chrysler K cars and derivatives quite a bit. I suppose if more people had a chance to drive a properly functioning turbo K car, they might see it is much more exciting to drive than to look at.

  • Very cool, but annoying after a while :P I still think the binging of newer cars is a better idea :P lol

  • This car has become my daily driver as of late, and I really don't mind it verbally reminding me that I left my lights on, my washer fluid is low, or whatever. I like it!

  • And back then it was very advance those famous electronic voice remeinders

  • I also find it interesting how the new yorkers like this have the beep instead of the chime. It kind of reminds me of how my microwave sounds.

  • Haha dinner's ready!

  • SWEEEEET!!! My Mazda just has an annoying BEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!

  • one of my friends as a 86 new yorker, but the voice reminder on it was the french canadian version.

  • all i have to say is SWEET!! all my turbo DIESEL beetle does is give me a loud annoying beeeeeeeP!!! when i leave the key in! LoL yup its a y2k diesel bug!

  • The BEEEEP is for the lights, the key-in-ignition reminder is a conventional BING-BING-BING. By the way, I have a 2001 EuroVan.

  • I don't know if it is just me, but those chryslers form the 80's always seemed to be really high-quality. Most of them had "tuck-and-roll" seats and woodgrain dashes. Too bad they don't make them like that anymore. Kinda funny though, the beeping noises it makes sound like the gas pumps we have here in Florida. Only the gas pumps don't say thank you after I pay $70 to fill up my tank. Bastards.

  • Har it actually thanks you!

All my 91 Fifth Avenue does is chime whenever the doors open, key in or not, im jelious

  • That's a nice car for an 86! Very Nice!

  • Thanks for the compliment, it has 34K original miles on it.

  • That's really low, did you own it all of it's life? I also love the digital displays!

  • It came from the estate of a lady who bought it new. Her nephew handled the sale. It had 27K on it when I got it. I fixed it up to be reliable to drive. I feel kind of guilty for putting so many miles on it lol!

  • I've GOt to show this to my sister. I've been telling her for months about these New Yorkers with the Electronic Voice Alert, as Chrysler called it. Now, she will be able to see it in action!

  • my parents had a 1986 Chrysler New Yorker and I have told people about it talking and hardly anyone belives me! Ours also said Good Morning and Good Evening of course depending on the time of day. My favorite thing to do was we would open the car at like a stop light to show people that it said A door is ajar It finally died when we were about 100 miles from home and It said "The computer is malfunctioning and will shut down" it did just that and never ran again.

  • The voice notification on this Chrysler New Yorker is very impressive. I wish Chrysler continued using the Electronic Voice Alert system on their newer cars like the Dodge Neon and the Plymouth Breeze instead of the boring warning chime. Then Chrysler would be really cool!
