  • My wife and I just listened to this and thought it was excellent, you have a great voice and you do the Welsh proud. Thank you.

  • As an Englishman I have nothing except respect for the Welsh, their patriotism is an example to behold in my opinion, akin to the Scots who again I hold in high regard. I've been to Wales, all over the south, the north and I loved the place and the people... They love their rugby and their country in tandem, what more could you honestly ask from men...??

  • its welsh it is a celtic language

  • The Welsh inbred Scum. I Thank You

  • @mutley0777 the english are genetically very similar to the welsh and cornish....so are you lot inbred as well?........I have a degree in genetics...what is your source?

  • Stunning scenery, stunning singing from a stunning country!

  • The Welsh are Khumric or Cymric, though there are are some Celts in Britain, I read from a book by researchers Alan Wilson and Baram Blackett. This Celtic version of the Welsh National Anthem is hauntingly good.

  • guys that is not Q-celtic right?

  • This is Beautiful. I am beginning a book and want to set it in Wales. Not sure why, it just drew me. I've never been there though, and since I'm blind the vids with scenery don't help. Any suggestions of vids or sites which describe your country? The music, food and lore I've found, so far is wonderful! Thanks...BTW is Welsh also Celtic? I've researched some Welsh, but I don't think I'm even close with pronunciation...Thanks for all your vids

  • Cymru am Byth!!!

  • Gorgeous

  • Yes, Brittany is Celtic. Actually BRITTANY has the SAME tune for their National Anthem as Wales.

  • the irich, scottish and cornish are all celtic, are some parts of france too?

  • UNDER WELSH LAW NO ONE COULD CLAIM THE RIVERS OR STREAMS NOT EVEN THE KING....look at us now :(

  • dwin cymraeg a dwin siwr bod hwn ddim yn 'celtic version'?

  • @llifs123 Point taken

  • @Johnfwake w ti yn gallu siarad cymraeg?

  • @llifs123 Sadly no.

  • @Johnfwake o reit. did you use google translate?

  • @llifs123 No. understand a little. JW

  • Celtic interpretation? If you mean that the rhythm is slightly changed, then say so. But it's hard to see how the Welsh National Anthem, sung in the Welsh in which it was written, and instantly recognisable as such, can be described as any sort of 'interpretation', let alone 'Celtic'. It's like saying that God Save The Queen, sung in English, is a Saxon interpretation of the song.

  • @Freimaco POINT TAKEN. We probably both agree that it is a superb and inspirational anthem. Your comment has legs. Thanks.

  • @Johnfwake hehe the word celtic is from the greek keltoi, the so called celts never knew about the word :) until celtic revival of 1700-1800s.....welsh are brythonic albeit latinised language

  • @mutley0777 the only stain that is obvious is you! and people like you. you obviously are of little intelligence and live your sorry life in a low and dreary world. you poor looser. I bet it takes you ten minutes to work out who it is when you look in a mirror. will be interesting to see what filth you come up with next.(looser) how many breeds in one mutley is 0777 the answer!!!!!!!!

  • @redhotror So that's how a Welsh mind works Sheep's arse's I am not surprised Thank you for proving my point Taffy

  • @redhotror

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and only annoys the pig.

  • @brethynda123 I don,t know about pigs! but there is a mongrel that can write and posts up on utube. what about that??

  • @mutley0777 ps.I will also tell you that when one welsh person dies one thousand daffodills bloom!!

  • @mutley0777 the dirty drible still runs out his foul mouth ! that scum bag mutt bloted by inbred acid of envy.

  • @mutley0777 None taken you stupid English prick.

  • @twlthteg Can you explain why do the Welsh not wash ?

  • @mutley0777 Mystery to me dear. Can you explain to me why so many English folks seem to have such a well balanced view of things? I mean, they seem to have a large petty racist chip on both shoulders. Don't forget to open that parachute now.

  • @mutley0777 Come on Poppy, not in there with that witty English reply concerning cleanliness? Or have you been killed in Afghanistan? Get a move on!!

  • @mutley0777 It's quite simple really. Because England took all our water.

    That's right I went there.

  • @dtrez09 I wish you would hurry up and break away I only hope The Conservatives speed up kicking you Smelly buggers out

  • @mutley0777 lol like the conservatives can do anything right. I'm happy to leave the union. It's your country who dragged us into it.

  • @dtrez09 Good Fuck Off then

  • @mutley0777

We wash our dirty underwear in the reservoirs that send water to England. Next question?

  • @brethynda123 So that's it is it That's the best you can do THE WELSH WHAT A LOAD OF CUNTS No offence

  • @mutley0777

I never take offence at comments made by idiots. :-)

  • @brethynda123 The Welsh The Brown Stain on English Boots

  • @brethynda123 No Offence

  • @mutley0777 Assuming you're English, You can't say anything about inbreeding. Your own royal family have interbred since before England even existed. You are here because you are allowed to be. God help you if the Celtic nations unite and decide we have had enough of this blatant racism and being treated as second class on our own islands.

  • Amazing

  • where did you get this version from??

    diolch

  • @MrJazz56 Hi. Released on a CD by Lorraine King

  • Hello Johnfwake! You say, PROBABLY the finest anthem in the world. No it is not! It is the finest anthem in the world! Cymru Am Byth!

  • This is my favourite version of the National Anthem.

  • This isn't a celtic version this is the anthem!!

  • @llanberis100 Hi. Yes, I take your point. Ta.

  • @llanberis100 of course this is a celtic version cant you hear the music

  • Quine beroia cansou aquere :)

    Salutat d'occitinia à tots los Celtas :)

  • One of the most beautiful anthem I,ve ever heard. Very serene and I guess must be refering to the resolute determination of the welsh people. I wish I understood gaelic.

    Bertrand, Canada

  • @BDeiste all the way to canada. type in say somthing in welsh and go from there (good luck )

  • @redhotror

Thanks being a french canadian I am interested in surviving cultures. The Welsh are interesting for me. They are an example of a culture that has survived both the roman the anglo-saxon and norman persecution.

  • @BDeiste

Yes, It is beautiful~ and what a nice comment :D But the language of Wales (Cymru) isn't Gaelic (Gaelic has 2 versions, Scottish and Irish), it is called Cymraeg which is a Celtic language. Cymraeg is the oldest language in all of Europe. I am trying to teach myself the language, its my ancestory, Wales is my passion~

    Diolch yn Fawr! Gail

  • @MaxfieldMini i thought the language of the basque was the oldest of Europe anyway it certainly must be among the first ones . There was a very interesting series by the BBC called the celts. In this serie they present the celtic civilisation as the first concept of a unified europe. Mainly because the celtic language in spite of regional differences could be understood from hungary through Ireland.

    Diolch yn Fawr! Gail

  • @MaxfieldMini Me too! I'm taking up Welsh, and really learning about the place my ancestors called home.

  • Glad you've posted this, but isn't a 'celtic interpretation of the Welsh national anthem' a little redundant? The Welsh are celtic, if its Welsh it is celtic

Either way- diolch, Cymru am byth!

  • Diolch. Understand your point. Ta. JFW

  • @cyfartha its stereotype celtic...irish? or maybe the old sounds of irish and welsh before chruch music took over

  • Absolutely gorgeous! Lord, I Wish I Was Welsh!

  • WOW! I do not know Welsh, so I do not understand the words but what a beautiful Anthem!

  • The Welsh language is one of the original languages given at Babel.

  • @aTruster

Just wondering, how do you know this was one of the languages given at Babel?

Is there scripture to back it up?

  • @MaxfieldMini

    Hi MfM,

Welsh is an original language and is one, if not the, oldest in Europe and therefore would have been given at Babel to add confusion. It's still fulfilling it's purpose!

  • beautiful

  • you cant beat the welsh only at rugby.

  • Great anthem, cheers for posting it.

    Tapadh Leibh.

    Greatings from Scotland

  • Thanks McAndy89. Was up in the Orkneys recently. Beautiful land. JFW.

  • This is the version we use in Wales.. I didn't even know we had a English version?

  • Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad

  • Diolch

  • hun chan 'r enilla Cymraeg canau cer arnat reds

  • This is a beautiful rendition of a beautiful anthem, Im Irish and proud, this song srikes a chord of all people from celtic countries. Brilliant

  • Us Celtic people are spread far and wide... even "Down Under"

  • my ancestors are Spaniards i don't know why but Irish music touches my heart is so wonderful :)

  • Before the Romans bullied their way across the land the Celts (Irish and Welsh) occupied most of Europe between the Rhone and the Mediterranean. the Atlantic Ocean and Turkey and there is a bit of the Celt in all of us.

  • Ok butty its Welsh....but Celtic.......our Irish bruvs are nearly as good as us in singing !

  • FANTASTIC!!!! LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!

  • This was recommended to me by a friend, & I'm thrilled to be privvy to such a gorgeous reading. I'll investigate more, definitely. Thanks for the posting.

  • This is a lovely rendition of 'Hen Wlad fy Nhadau' - thanks - bedigedig!!

  • i mean no offence by this at all but land of my fathers shouldn't be sung by anything or anyone other than a male choir. i'm not sexist...it's just the way i see it.

  • i disagree totally. i think the national anthem should be sung by all welsh people, men, women, young and old. i enjoy many versions of it. a song for all our nation to sing with pride.. . . but we all got our own opinions.

  • I think the world should sing it.. but that's just me! :D

  • i see your point bud and i agree with ya. it's just down to my own personal taste, the sound of the old choir back home in glyncorwyg singing it when i was a kid still sticks with me today.

  • yea, i like the sound of the choirs too, especially on match day.

  • im english i love land of my fathers and i want 2 here katherine jenkins and a choir 2 sing it coz it such a great song and im disappointed with god save the queen it just no where near as good

  • Beautiful. Makes me want to go back home.

  • Diolch,

    Aled ydy f' enwy.

    Yr hen iaith, Hefydd.

I am Welsh but unfortunately I was not born there in

    hen wlad fy nhadau, Cymru.

    Wales.

  • O bydded i'r Hen Iaith barhau :) x

  • I'm watching from Adelaide, South Australia, where i was born. I'm the daughter of an ex-pat Welshman. I sang this (dissappointingly in English) with our combined primary-schools choir over 35 years ago. This is truly beautiful & I thank you for the posting. I shall investigate more about Lorraine King. Now I need to reconnect by embracing the Welsh language. Cheers!

  • Thanks for comment. Lorraine has just returned from Vancouver, Canada where she undertook a concert. Type in 'I Cant forget my Wales', or 'Alan Cunningham, Erwood' for more Lorraine Welsh songs. JW.

  • Cymru am Byth!

  • does anyone knows where can i found the tabs?

  • Born in a state with twisted origins

,born welsh by the grace of God/Mam :)

  • This song is actually quite good!

    Cymru Am Byth!

  • To be born Welsh is to be born blessed...... nuff said init !

  • CYMRU AM BYTH!!!!!

  • Da iawn

  • I haven't been stirred to tears since Borodin's 'Nocturne', but this slayed me. My pride welled up and erupted; and I was left in a lovely red, white and green puddle. Diolch y fawr, cariad xxx

  • This is a fantastic version of the anthem. Beautiful.

  • The location adds to the effect. Thanks for your comment, I will pass on to Lorraine. She's a Swansea girl and a very proud Welsh woman.

  • Beautiful comment. Thank you.

  • Ardderchog, da iawn

  • A long-standing rule banning athletes waving unofficial flags at the Olympic Games has been criticised by politicians in Wales.

According to an International Olympic Committee (IOC) rule, competitors should not have flags which could be perceived as a "political gesture".

This means the flags of Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland are effectively banned.

Team GB will be represented by the union flag

Time for Welsh Independance boys !

  • @mush1955 And why the hell do we sing "God Save The Queen"?

  • @TheEJDavies ....I don't........The only other national anthem i sing is the Danish and thats out of respect to the people of the land I live in.....plus the Danish Vikings helped us kick the shit out of the Mercian Saxons

  • If you want to download this song. GO TO - DOWNLOAD FACTOR LORRAINE KING - on web. Cost about £1.50p sterling.

  • fantastic!

  • Trackingtracker spoken like a true englishman...Obviously proud of your german queen and scottish prime minister....and that dirge of an anthem you ve got

  • Da Iawn!!

  • cellweirus

  • Naughty boy John ! you got me blowing my nose and wiping the tears from my eyes again.... best wishes from a Rhondda woolieback in Denmarc.

  • The River Edw is a magical river flowing through the most rural and peaceful landscape. There is another super river running through Camlan Field in Mid Wales. Type in 'Camlan King Arthur'on You Tube and have a look.

  • There's also the River Rhondda, once commonly known as the " Dirty Dick " because of pollution from the mines. Its become much cleaner these days.......they tell me even the fish have stopped coughing !

  • i'm wondering whether lorraine king is someone famous in wales. i'd never heard of her till i found this video. i enjoyed her singing, and i'm wondering whether she sings anything else.

  • Hi. No, not famous. Rather an unsung heroine of mine. Released a few CDs with bands. This is one of her few single CDs. She is the lead singer in Tribute bands also, Abba, Californians etc. Plays all over the U.K. in this guise. A brilliant performer and songwriter. Regards to you, John

  • my interest in wales was sparked a few years ago. one of my cousins married a welshman that came here for college. when her husband moved back to wales, she went with him, and she now has children. i think she became a welsh citizen. she probably renounced the u.s. actually, i've never met her. i wonder what she'll do if the u.s. gets into a war with wales. i have a feeling that most welsh are not all that frightened by u.s. power. at the moment, i think the u.s. has good relations with wales.

  • Good relations with the Uk *shivers* you mean. Half of them don't know Wales is a country of it's own, or even what Wales is. *sigh*

  • If you want to see good relations between Wales & the USA try seeing the reaction that Donny Osmond ( Welsh ancestors from Merthyr ) got when he sang in Welsh in Cardiff. :- Donny Osmond sings welsh verse of myfanwy in Cardiff on youTube ( no chance of war between US and Wales.......we ain't got any oil LOL ! )

  • thanks. i just took a look at it. i'm pretty familiar with the osmonds, yet i didn't know about his welsh connection till you mentioned it. the osmonds are pretty famous singers here, yet i didn't know much about them, aside from their religious activities. you don't have oil, yet you do have coal. lol; actually this isn't really a matter to be joking around about. well, maybe it is.

  • You can't have our coal !........the English will be back again to steal that once they've finished robbing the Scots of their north sea oil ! LOL.

Have a look how many of your presidents had Welsh ancestors .. eg.,at least eight U.S. Presidents of Welsh extraction including Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, John Adams, John Quincy Adams, and James Garfield. Confederate President Jefferson Davis was also of Welsh extraction check On Wikipedia under

" List of Americans with Welsh ancestry "

  • yea, i think there's a decent amount of welsh ancestry over here, yet the welsh language has been virtually non-existent here. also i doubt that any u.s. president spoke welsh as his best language. i think all u.s. presidents spoke english as their best language, except for martin van buren, who spoke netherlandish dutch. i assume my family was of english ancestry, because my grandparents didn't know any language other than english. supposedly my family were english-speakers who lived in ulster.

  • although i don't know of any welsh ancestry in my family, i enjoy this music a lot. the other day, i played it on my keyboard in front of some friends without telling them what it was. they liked it. then i told them that it was the welsh national anthem. then some of them said stuff like, "who are the welsh?" they were familiar with england, but not with wales. i also like llanfair and cwm rhondda and ar hyd y nos which i have used as church music.

  • I couldn't understand a word of it. Is she foreign?

    Angry Janice.

  • ..She's singing the Welsh national anthem...it's in Welsh.

  • No she's not " foreign "...... she's singing in her own language in her own land.

  • like pixies do?

  • it does have a catchy tune. i'd never heard it till about 3 weeks ago, and i've tried it on keyboard.

i'm wondering why sizeable numbers of welsh people have english surnames. for example, that singer has the name 'king". obviously it's not celtic. maybe her ancestor was an englishman that moved to wales and started thinking of himself as welsh.

i like that hissing "ll" sound that the welsh use.

  • Thanks for your comment. Its also interesting how many English have Welsh Surnames, Davies, Jones, Griffiths, Powell, Lloyd etc., It could be that their ancestors were Welsh and moved to England and started thinking of themselves as English. The hissing LL is made by putting your tongue at the top of your mouth and saying Llanfaircaerionion for instance or Llanfairpwllgwynwyth...... By the way I love Coventry Cathedral and the original one next to it. Always pop in to see them when in Coventry.

  • i need to clear something up. i'm using "coventrygardens" and i'm using the name "jone coventry" as pseudonyms, not my real name. i picked the name "coventrygardens" and "jone coventry" because i used to live in a place called "coventry gardens" which is located near detroit, michigan, u.s.a. in "coventry gardens", michigan, the streets are named after places in england. i lived on surrey street, next to the funeral parlor. my forefathers left england and scotland in 1600s and 1700s.

  • Thanks for telling me. Were they Quakers? Those years were the highspot years for the Quakers leaving England and Wales. John

  • the english side of the family came here in 1600s. i don't know what religion they had back then. around the year 1800, they became wesleyites. the scottish side came over in 1700s. they were presbyterians. around the year 1900, they became baptists. i was a non-denominationalist so-called evangelical Christian till about 5 years ago, when i switched over to the Catholic Church.

  • gwrymiau forever! 'i ewyllysia erioed darfod!

  • I'm spent all day yesterday walking around the house singing this arrangemant. I can't get it out of my head (no bad thing) Well done

  • Excellent/Campus! A gentle version that maintains heaps of passion. I really enjoyed it - Da Iawn!

  • Diolch. Your comment will be passed to Lorraine. Take care, John

  • Thank you for posting this. It's a beautiful arrangement. I went straight out and bought Lorraine's CD of songs from Wales. Diolch.

  • Where can I get hold of that album? I couldnt find it on Amazon....

  • Thank you so much. Hello Holland from Wales.
