Whether it's real or make belief (though what they rap about is the total opposite of 2mex) there are some, if not, a lot of people that can truely relate to what they're rapping. As sadistic as that may be, it's true. Of course the majority of us outside the box cannot relate to such extremes. However, it is the beat that makes the booty clap. When you're dancing you move to the beat not the lyrics; therefore there is mass appeal & massive sales.

Yeah thats all true, but surely a definition of rap/hiphop will have something to do with lyrical meaning, stemming from the days of social/cultural protest and collectiveness, part of rap is meaning be it literal or metaphoric, and I feel thats totally missing from the "commercial rap" we see on MTV.
