Actually, white tigers are almost exclusively a zoo phenomenon. White tigers come from a mutation in genes, and are rare in the wild. They're bred extensively in zoos because of their popularity. Unfortunately, this leads to inbreeding, as the trait is recessive. White tigers do not survive well in the wild as their lifespans are much shorter than their orange counterparts.

Not only are they bred for the colouring but by inbreeding them most of the white tigers born have terrible deformities and recessive diseases that give them poor quality of life and a very short life-span. All white tigers in zoo populations are descended from the same original pair because of the fact that white tigers are NOT found in the wild because wild populations naturally will not inbreed as much as is needed to display this deformity.

And they may be cute when young, but many private owners who raise cubs have no clue what to do when they reach adulthood. So sad... and something to keep in mind.

Me, I visited a preservation stattion where we got to interact with the baby tigers for a short time. Awesome. :)

beautiful yes, but rare because they are an accident. they do not exist in the wild. they are man-made, not natural. they are the result of inbreeding - the beautiful white tigers you see are the few that breeders chose to keep, after the many other white tigers born are killed because of birth defects meaning they're not "pretty" enough. any zoo's who breed and display these tigers, PLEASE complain and don't go back! research "white tigers inbred" and you'll see.
