Thanks for posting this, but gosh, I hope there is a better quality one somewhere else...this is horrible.....going in and out of focus all the time....
this is my all time favorite song, but they honestly didn't do it justice in this performance, Just kinda weird and awkward to watch, but still love em!
this isnt my favorite live performence by them but its a awesome song. mute math is facking awesome and really underated. you should pay attention to this band cuz they are great. i love each song by them!!!!!!!! so listen to mute math ((((=
I no! Maybe late in this year, my church mite get them, to play over here, but only for religious purposes, and stuff, but i think we can ge them to play something else, but who noes!
You're actually retarded if you believe "normal people" have plasmas.
You're actually an idiot for not recognizing that the quality of the performance is the same, just not the audio/video quality.
I do wish the sound guys mixed it better though, the only reason why Paul sounds not on, is cause he was basically left alone with the rest of the instruments being alot lower in volume.
Yes, I realised that after reading Roy's blog! - it's rather hard to tell the difference between a keyboard and a lap steel on a 'point a camera at the tv' type clip!*
And, yes, the guy at the back is Adam LaClave and the bass player guy is from his band "Club of the Sons". The piano guy is Jonathan Allen, who's been contributing strings and things to the upcoming new MM album...
Can I just say thank you for posting this. I missed it and wondered if I would ever get to see it.
I was curious how they would play the song live because they didn't have enough band members, and where the heck was Roy on bass.
It's also a little sad that Mute Math's biggest hit song had to be on the soundtrack of a (sort of) kids movie, when they've already put out a solid album and EP.
Anyway, thanks for holding the camera so still, so I could enjoy it!
well im not a huge fan of twilight but it seems to be doing great for a kids movie,, looks like its going to be the new harry potter series,,, i think it was a smart move for mutemath
This is obviously the first time a lot of people have heard them live. They put on the most incredible concerts. I've been listening to them since they put out Reset EP.
Did anyone notice Adam LaClave in the background???????????
adam laclave wrote chaos and was the singer for Earthsuit, which was a group that darren king and roy mitchell cardenas were in. how awesome did Paul look in his suit? AND cool was Greg Hill playing that slide guitar with effects??
Anyone who knows this band. Has seen them live or has watched their live performances from their first album knows that this was weak to say the least.
Watch the energy that they are known for. MUTEMATH are under-rated & should not be ripped on by amateurs. Trust MUTEMATH - they have it under control.
Some of the comments on here are coming from people who have no idea who they are "critiquing". No one should be concerned that MUTEMATH aren't putting there all into it or that the bass player is playing an acoustic guitar. These guys are professionals who play multiple instruments. The "extras" (Adam, Jonathan, Jeremy) should also be considered tip top. Even though I think this song is poppy & isn't my favorite, they convinced me to enjoy it anyway.
...mutemath in a band called "Earthsuit." For us Earthsuit fans, this is AWESOME. If you were to see this live. Mute Math is still a 4 piece band. And I disagree with people thinking this song is a different style than what Mutemath would normally play...it is a bit different from their last album, but i still find it to have that Mute Math sound.
I loved seeing adam and jonathan there. It makes me happy to see tha though earthsuit died, their relationship still exists in music and in life
guys, keep in mind, this is on late night tv. there are things to notice...1, I think darren's set is set up differently because of the micing of the drums, it's different, and oyu can thank the sound tech at nbc for that. they never seem to get a good mix on things, the vocals are dry and bland - well not the vocals, i should say the MICS are dry and bland, again, you can thank the sound tech for that. and as far as more people...some of those people use to play with the guys from...
To those who haven't seen MUTEMATH live onstage, this will seem tame and kind of bland. Just remember that TV talkshow studios are really hard to pull off a normal atmosphere in. They are 20 times better live. Also: the "extra people" are probably there to achieve the same sound they had on the soundtrack, since it's very important for sales for it to sound like the soundtrack so PEOPLE BUY IT (tacky, I know but what are you gonna do?. )
Please SEE THEM LIVE, and check out their other tunes!!
Does anyone have a decent version of the performance they could send me? Can't really tell from this, although it's much appreciated for putting it up. I live in Scotland and we don't get Leno, and obviously the slags at NBC will take it down on YouTube. PM me if you can help me out. Thanks.
I am a huge fan of mute math and I love the music they are coming out with. Unfortunately that was possibly the worst TV performance they have ever made, and the people on stage have me a little concerned as well. They had an amazing combination of talent as a four piece. I don't mind them changing their style, in fact I would encourage it. What would be unfortunate is seeing MuteMath travel down the road Earthsuit took, with inconsistent band members, lineup changes and creativity problems.
i agree with you. this performance wasn't great. that two other guys playing bass and guitar. its like wtf. its not the same when they do shit like that. and darren changed his awesome set up, which upset me the most. not as cool as i thought it would be. plus i dont even like this song that much but dont get me wrong everything theyve done as a band is absolutely incredible
love them. but i agree and do not think this was their best tv performance. actually it very well be their worst. it was nice seeing adam back there. the first glimpse of him that I sawi did a little double take it make sure it was him. I also hope they stick to their original lineup when they start touring again.
and God please may that time come soon! I need a little mute math energy boost!
they'll probably tour with just the four. they do tons of samples live with just the four of them, and have always sort of 'cheated' on the member count, because of the sampling and loop stuff they have set up. have no worries.
I've been following these guys since way back the Earthsuit days, and I KNOW they never disappoint live. I'm sure here, as many bands do in a TV spot, they were trying to "dress up" the tune just like the recording. Honestly? I doubt they'll play this live where a lot of soundtrack recordings never leave the CD, but we'll see. No need to panic about a crowded tour stage, guys. They'll probably sample scratch tracks for the BG vocals in signature fashion. This CAN be done by the four of them. :)
i'm an avid mute math fan, but what is this? i hope they don't tour with these other "members" this is not mute math. Why is roy playing guitar. not impressed.
This was the first live mute math performance where I thought to myself, 'That was no good'. I mean I was dieing for Paul to scissor kick over the bass drum. And the extra guys on stage weren't cool. But, I think mute math has a plan, hopefully they have to use plan b or plan c and watch it go. Or it may crumble into broken notes.
As talented as Mute Math is, If any of you witnessed how awesome they are during their live shows, this was a let down to me... BUT! they are still a great band. See 'em live
One of them is a hometown friend called Jeremy Larson on keyboards and the others are from a band called Club Of Sons. They're just helping out at the moment. They won't be full-time members, or at least officially placed in the Mute Math line-up. :)
Your very welcome guys. I love mutemath too! Yea, i was sorta like.... when i heard like when he was singing. Dont expect him to be perfect, but u no, maybe i was expecting more..
I also wondered about the people in the back, like who are they?

it sounds a little karaoke but he's actually not bad...
but his dance moves suck, and so des the little sound mixer guy. it looks like they have to pee/ having a spasm.
but i liked how that did the playing at the beginning, like all the musicians just rocking out then jump into the song.
