@cbohar84 In the Soviet cinema was forbidden to show the religious iconography only if the action of the story happened in the USSR. In the film, which is set, for example, in England, the use of Catholic elements was not forbidden. Plus, this cartoon at the western theme.
@MultiDarkness12 I think you mean Iraq and you. And you know...kicking ass killing terrorist. Though if it was a terrorist vs a communist id join the commununist.
@Deleau777 Well, you got a point there. Communism is just another (more restrictive, but internally peaceful) way of life. Terrorism is a new way of kill. And, if we meant about Cold War, MAD would have destroyed both Americans and Soviets.
I find the degree of religious imagery used in this, both Christian and Buddhist, amazing to see in a society that encouraged atheism. It's an interesting attempt to find common ground in the chaos of war.
@VanSisean Perhaps one purpose of this ad was critic to religion; like saying: "you trust in religion to give you peace and justice, but too often it is used to support or justify war". However it's not a disrespectful critic. The need to find a common ground for all ppl, is still enormous. We forget so often (and we're led to forget) that every soldier in a war starves and dies in a very similar way, be him from any nation. As all their national leaders get rich and build personal power
@lunacomputacion Arguably, religion and irreligion have both been used to justify massive and perhaps equal amounts of bloodshed. Christianity, Islam and the other Abrahamic faiths, Hinduism, Confucianism and even Buddhism and Taoism, among others, have been used in the justification of violence and the pursuit of empire. Likewise, the Communists in Russia, China and elsewhere killed millions in support of their cause.
@VanSisean Yes, it's not the cause but the act what matters. I think the film plays some game about that, very "a la russe"... the big brasses and warmongers are blessed by all religion symbols and ceremonies, but it's their victims who resemble the religious imagery. Not that I think that all Soviet material is as agreeable as this. The red army missile parades meant "something", too. And they had their own dose of witch hunt and red scare (in their case, "green" scare)
@canuckleful no because U.S. hates communism and masscres innocent civilians that are communist , this capitialist goverment (U.S) saddens and they say its for national security. only showing me that capitialist= man slaughter
@Jackerarg yes. power to the people. in soviet russia, there is no freedom... but they did do a good job to show us how the US war pigs profit out of wars...
@expotl, it is avery powerful propaganda video for sure. Regardless of its Comunist origin its value as a true depiction of the mindless violence of the war in Vietnam is priceless.
My favorite part of the video is the playing of Ave Maria with police brutality to the peaceful protesters. Theirs no such thing as freedom of assembly in this country, our politicians say you have these freedoms but then when you go out in the streets to use these freedoms the politicians send out the fascist police to beat you up as if you did something wrong. Anyways great video. *Thumbs-up*
@FQBeast I don't know what country you're in, but protestors are protected by the Freedom of Speech in the United States- that is, until the protestors break the law by either pillaging personal property, harassing citizens, disrupting other people's business, etc, as they so often do. Americans enjoy as much freedom as possible- until it starts taking away from others.
@ludicrus32 So what harassment did the protesters at Kent state university commit when 4 innocent students were shot down by the national guards men? What harassment did black civil rights protesters commit when they were marching completely peacefully at Selma and brutally beaten up by national guards men?
Yes you do have freedoms, until the government says otherwise. And they can say otherwise whenever possible.
@Jacque118 I never said the Soviet Union gave people freedom you fucking moron, where the hell in my comment did I say that! Communism was a disaster and the Soviet Union perfected totalitarianism. But just because the United States was far better than the Soviet Union doesn't mean it was great. Franco was better than Hitler, but does that make Franco good? No, he was a Fascist dictator aswell. The government of the US gives you an illusion that you have true freedom. Capitalism is not freedom.
@FQBeast someday, the fat fucks of the american government will just have everyone who isn't closed-minded redneck shot, they're already attacking the internet with their goddanmed SOPA, i feel as if i'm being watched sometimes, someday the government's going to have the american people fucked in the ass! the fucking economy already failed because of ignorant hick george w. bush! someday, it'll go beyond incompetence, someday, they'll be just like nazi germany! damn the american government!

The Soviets were financing and supplying the very war they were decrying in this film . Talk about being two-faced !!!
No they didn't, the supposed North Vietnamese attack on the US navy has been irrefutably proven to be a false flag attack. The US are sure good at those to stir up national pride.

those commies are demonizers i can tell you. The Soviet union mad this only for the name of Stalin. Back in the cold war, Russia remained a Stalinist State. Stalin caused a genocide two times as worse as Hitler.

As well as socialists btw. In this world, the best political solution is that where nobody gets too much power. Not capitalists, nor goverment. And also, too much power for goverment is far more dangerous than more power to the capitalists..
We shouldn't have been in Korea, we shouldn't have been in Vietnam, we shouldn't have been in Kuwait, we shouldn't be in Iraq, and we shouldn't be in Afghanistan, but the soviets shouldn't have been in Afghanistan either.
we shouldn't have to be the worlds police force, but we are. War is an ugly thing, but sometimes it is necessary. Are we in the Middle East for oil, perhaps. But the point is, we are making a difference in peoples lives.
no russia was protecting south ossetia from georgia but of cource nato and america where quick to point out that russia was trying to be mr. big and evil.
all the other yeah we shouldn't be in. 9/11 was horribal but we invaded with out proper intalligence and without the nessecery will to get rid of the al quada and the talibian. but now most are in pakistan, india, saudi arabia, iran, and eygept maybey.

A very interesting video, but I think that the director missed an opportunity with the child's ghost. She just kind of walked around, but I kept thinking she would haunt the soldier that shot her. Oh well, the best art that came from Soviet Russia was the classical music anyways.
the message of the video is peace, well it propagates a message of peace, but if the little girl haunted the soldier, one it would provide a killer with a conscious, and two it would take away her innocence, the depiction changes.
I love the beautifully paranoid comments for this video. "well no doubt dubious americans of all types write on there" will pass down into Internet Legend.
Russia had a DAMN GOOD REASON TO GO TO WAR IN WW2 THEY STOPPED THE HEARTLESS SOULS OF THE TIME: THE NAZIS. I SALUTE TO RUSSIA FROM AN AMERICAN. but that defeats the purpose of my last comment but it was for a good reason to save Germany from it self. BURN IN HELL HITLER
Although Hitler and Stalin signed a non aggression pact they were never in an actual alliance. Also Hitler and Stalin did not jointly invade Poland if that is what you are saying. Hitler invaded Poland and Stalin did nothing because they had the non aggression pact. Stalin did later invade Poland to defeat the Nazis but that was after the war had started.
He did not pull out of Poland because Stalin was a ruthless dictator bent on creating an empire. However he did not jointly invade Poland and was not allied with Hitler.
I guess your right they did divide up Poland, (not really a joint invasion but oh well) however they were NOT allies due to the fact that when England and France declared war on Germany, the USSR did not declare war on England and France
@SocialistBob Stalin did invade in 1940 the part of Poland that wasn't still occupied by the nazis. The final attack against Hitler, through Poland, is a different story.
we had no businesses in Vietnam and what happened?....... we gave up we lost too many men there is no point of war just senseless onslaught of people and in fucked up ways. and i was NOT in any war whatsoever. it was
entering the cold war and i was glad the us and USSR didn't go to war it would be worse than the other wars bombing. AND WHAT HAPPENED?!!!!!! WE SETTLED OUR DIFFERENCES AND THE WAR WAS PREVENTED WAR MAKES ME SICK!!!!!!
goddam america and their stupid pointless wars for profit! well many vietnamese were catholic even tho those were usually in favor of the americans. buttt stilll, annd great part at the end with the brutal violence against US protesters, its funy how the west always focuses on the same exact things that occurd in east.
Quote from Wikipedia: "In January 1959, the North's Central Committee issued a secret resolution authorizing an "armed struggle". This authorized the southern communists to begin large-scale operations against the South Vietnamese military. North Vietnam supplied troops and supplies in earnest, and the infiltration of men and weapons from the north began along the Ho Chi Minh Trail."
wiki in english! LOL! hahahahahha! well no doubt dubious americans of all types write on there. anyhow soo if u must know because well this is no longer confidential for cccp, communists were all over country and north viet namese mearly acted as the cccp did in corea or as the americans did in somalia. most pple dont know americans purposefuly aided fascists militarist anti-french groups in the begining who made terrorist attacks against the french and civilians blamed them on coms.
What do you mean by "English please?"? Wikipedia uses different sources. Of course it can be changed, but the fact that Norh Vietnam started military action against South Vietnam cannot be changed. You can argue that it was ok, that they had right to do so, but you cannot deny that they started the action.
Beautiful animation and very well made. I don't know much about the history or the message of this video, but anyway I like the style of this movie. ;-)
The message is that the world we live in is one big lie. They contrast the tranquility of Maria (a reference to the significance of Christianity in the US), and the way the soldiers just go fight a meaningless war...
The soldiers go to fight, believing that they have Maria's blessing and that they are doing a good thing. But in fact, they are just slaughtering innocents...
No wonder most Vietnam veterans went insane after they returned...
yeah but it wasnt the choice of the communists they set up a group in the 20s called the militant godless to attempt to reduce religion as its according to Marx the opiate of the people. Although the real reason the U.S.S.R. or the F.S.R.D.R. as it originally was called was because of the alignment of religion to the tsarist regime and hence the whites and hence the capitalist powers. these two factors lead to frequent purges and attacks on the church starting before party purges.
I strongly disagree with Karl Marx, but he was a product of its time. The robber barons, the abuses against workers during the height of the industrial revolution, the collusion between church and capital. You can see why he had some crazy ideas.
In USA, under the patriot act, or terror act, anyone can be taken by the secret forces, without judicial proceedings and tortured in a foreign country. What right is that? Americans pay the black tax, a tax that funds secret policies, etc. If you ask me, these are clear signs of a nationalism, all powered and run by the economic giants, who intelligently hide amongst the shadows of the government while the government take the heat and the public never know who the real 'rulers' are.
Ron Paul, the darling of left-wingers, parading as a Republican. Don't make me laugh.
Yes, I support Israel, as most other mature non-crazy left wing people that have any idea about politics. Given the freaks that support the Arab Islamists and dictatorships surrounding it, it makes all the more sense.
No the reall purpose of the Vietnamese invasion was MONEY. America WANTED to go to war. War means MONEY! Thats really why the nations even go to war,Greed. Some day it will kill us all.

We shouldn't have been in Korea, we shouldn't have been in Vietnam, we shouldn't have been in Kuwait, we shouldn't be in Iraq, and we shouldn't be in Afghanistan, but the soviets shouldn't have been in Afghanistan either.

and the russians shouldn't have been in Georgia and the Americans shouldn't have military bases worldwide to act lyk a police of the world...
Denmarkforever1 2 years ago
we shouldn't have to be the worlds police force, but we are. War is an ugly thing, but sometimes it is necessary. Are we in the Middle East for oil, perhaps. But the point is, we are making a difference in peoples lives.
KitsuKyo 2 years ago
Don't ever give ME that "war is necessary" thing ok?
WAR is something people did 2000 years ago. It is not necessary, ever. There is always a better way, we just dont see it..

You think that in USSR people didn't know English? lol
Scoutrussp7 2 years ago
A very interesting video, but I think that the director missed an opportunity with the child's ghost. She just kind of walked around, but I kept thinking she would haunt the soldier that shot her. Oh well, the best art that came from Soviet Russia was the classical music anyways.
TehSplinterCell 2 years ago
the message of the video is peace, well it propagates a message of peace, but if the little girl haunted the soldier, one it would provide a killer with a conscious, and two it would take away her innocence, the depiction changes.

BURN IN HELL HITLER
flyinghammer360 2 years ago 13
That is funny considering Hitler and stalin formed a alliance and both invaded Poland.
ArnoldSlate 2 years ago
Although Hitler and Stalin signed a non aggression pact they were never in an actual alliance. Also Hitler and Stalin did not jointly invade Poland if that is what you are saying. Hitler invaded Poland and Stalin did nothing because they had the non aggression pact. Stalin did later invade Poland to defeat the Nazis but that was after the war had started.
SocialistBob 2 years ago 5
Sorry: read something about Katyn
read: Molotov-Ribbentrop treaty.
Stalin invaded Poland two weeks after Nazis to grab the land which they (Molotov+Ribbentrop) agreed on.
pm0820 2 years ago
And I suppose he got out of Poland after the war ended?
henrythesteinberg 2 years ago
He did not pull out of Poland because Stalin was a ruthless dictator bent on creating an empire. However he did not jointly invade Poland and was not allied with Hitler.
SocialistBob 2 years ago
I guess your right they did divide up Poland, (not really a joint invasion but oh well) however they were NOT allies due to the fact that when England and France declared war on Germany, the USSR did not declare war on England and France
SocialistBob 2 years ago
@SocialistBob No, Hitler and Molotov signed a non aggression pact.
AcidWorks95 1 year ago
@SocialistBob Stalin did invade in 1940 the part of Poland that wasn't still occupied by the nazis. The final attack against Hitler, through Poland, is a different story.

we had no businesses in Vietnam and what happened?....... we gave up we lost too many men there is no point of war just senseless onslaught of people and in fucked up ways. and i was NOT in any war whatsoever. it was

goddam america and their stupid pointless wars for profit! well many vietnamese were catholic even tho those were usually in favor of the americans. buttt stilll, annd great part at the end with the brutal violence against US protesters, its funy how the west always focuses on the same exact things that occurd in east.

North Vietnam attacked South Vietnam first. Why people forget about this?
OlenkaWagner 2 years ago
cause its not true! LOL! why dont u look up all the stuff that happend after they won their indipendence and the french left.
BijiApoCheHugoChavez 2 years ago 2
Quote from Wikipedia: "In January 1959, the North's Central Committee issued a secret resolution authorizing an "armed struggle". This authorized the southern communists to begin large-scale operations against the South Vietnamese military. North Vietnam supplied troops and supplies in earnest, and the infiltration of men and weapons from the north began along the Ho Chi Minh Trail."
OlenkaWagner 2 years ago 2
wiki in english! LOL! hahahahahha! well no doubt dubious americans of all types write on there. anyhow soo if u must know because well this is no longer confidential for cccp, communists were all over country and north viet namese mearly acted as the cccp did in corea or as the americans did in somalia. most pple dont know americans purposefuly aided fascists militarist anti-french groups in the begining who made terrorist attacks against the french and civilians blamed them on coms.
BijiApoCheHugoChavez 2 years ago
English please? Also try not to use wikipedia as a source because it can be changed and such.
fromdirttodustpro1 2 years ago
What do you mean by "English please?"? Wikipedia uses different sources. Of course it can be changed, but the fact that Norh Vietnam started military action against South Vietnam cannot be changed. You can argue that it was ok, that they had right to do so, but you cannot deny that they started the action.
OlenkaWagner 2 years ago
thx I said English please because it was a little confusing about what you said. You put it much clearer now.

Beautiful animation and very well made. I don't know much about the history or the message of this video, but anyway I like the style of this movie. ;-)
Darksteel85 2 years ago 2
The message is that the world we live in is one big lie. They contrast the tranquility of Maria (a reference to the significance of Christianity in the US), and the way the soldiers just go fight a meaningless war...
The soldiers go to fight, believing that they have Maria's blessing and that they are doing a good thing. But in fact, they are just slaughtering innocents...
No wonder most Vietnam veterans went insane after they returned...

The USSR didn't despise religion, they had Christianity, and, Orthodox (most common)...
Now there is more and these pictures predate the USSR. These pictures show our part of our past, and can't be forgotten.
SGeekS 2 years ago 3
yeah but it wasnt the choice of the communists they set up a group in the 20s called the militant godless to attempt to reduce religion as its according to Marx the opiate of the people. Although the real reason the U.S.S.R. or the F.S.R.D.R. as it originally was called was because of the alignment of religion to the tsarist regime and hence the whites and hence the capitalist powers. these two factors lead to frequent purges and attacks on the church starting before party purges.
selurbrainonebay 2 years ago

Truthseeker1412 2 years ago
This is actually very touching and beautiful.
The only difference between Soviets and USA is that Soviets were honest: ''join us or be destroyed''
American rights are nothing more then a illusion.

What is the tie in with such Catholic imagery and communism. The communists were atheist, am I right?
musiknouvel 2 years ago
Yes, the Soviet Union was officially atheist, so the religious imagery is likely meant to be ironic, considering the brutality of the film.
drkissinger1 2 years ago
No religion. I have read in National Geogrphic, that most Russians are getting baptised now, most of them, adults, who lived in Soviet Rule.

Why? You think Vietnam was nothing other than a profiteer war?
drewd1987 2 years ago
"You think Vietnam was nothing other than a profiteer war? "
Great usual black and white response from a stupid close-minded left wing loud-mouth.
Like in Korea, the Communist dictatorship in the North was trying to invade the South.
In the context of fighting Communism, the USA was absolutely right and justified in standing up for the South.
gurufabbes 2 years ago
lol.. first of all I'm a Ron Paul supporter. I don't believe sending Americans away to die in wars for no real reason.
The north won, and what have the consequences been? NOTHING.
Nothing has happened. Stop justifying it. You can't. Did you fight in the war?
No, You're a 21 y/o canadian MORON who supports Israel!?! FUCK Israel.
drewd1987 2 years ago
Ron Paul, the darling of left-wingers, parading as a Republican. Don't make me laugh.
Yes, I support Israel, as most other mature non-crazy left wing people that have any idea about politics. Given the freaks that support the Arab Islamists and dictatorships surrounding it, it makes all the more sense.
gurufabbes 2 years ago
So you support the attack on the us liberty conducted by the Israel government?
ArnoldSlate 2 years ago
What a stupid question.
I don't support the 'attack' on the us liberty and nor does anyone else given the simple fact that it was an accident.
It took place during the 6th day war, when Israeli planes mistook the ship for an Egyptian vessle and opened fire, sadly killing several US sailors.
gurufabbes 2 years ago
Accident right.
As much of an accident the attack on pearl harbor.
I wasn't aware that us ships did not carry national flags.
ArnoldSlate 2 years ago
You can think what you want.
To me it makes zero sense why Israel, the USA's number one ally in the region, would attack its ships.
gurufabbes 2 years ago
Because if they didn't ,i wouldn't have a purpose in my life and would have to get a real job instead of being on you tube 24 seven.

stop making excuses. The purpose of invasion was to stop the spread of communism in South East Asia...
There was no other purpose...
