This song reminds me of summer nights jelly sandals jumping double dutch, in front of the house where my mother can see me! It was fun growing up in Brooklyn.....107.5 WBLS America's Best... They use ta rock the radio wit Soul!
I recently heard an interview conducted by Mr, RobbieVincent interviewing Teddy Pendergrass, and Teddy stated that these 3 young ladies were one of his favorite groups and that he wanted to work with once he got back to the states, at the time he was doing a concert in the UK and this specific song "Night Over Egypt" was his favorite pick so i'm listening to this song on the strength of Teddy loving it, becuz i love him RIP
Thank you randomhajile for posting this track. Hey listen, as long as there are people out there who support good music, music companies are mandated to put it out there. I think.....
Now this is a complete singing group. Groups nowadays are nothing more than one singer coupled with a bunch of back-up singers with the singer basically singing the entire song and the back-up singers singing just the chorus line.
This is my favorite song back in the day. Theses were my girls. I loved nights of egypt. Yes, I have to agree AjlVchi that the bass line is BAD... Sistah's could sang..LOL.
OMGGGG....THIS IS MY SONG!!!! I LOVEE this song!!!! The music is BADD!!! LOOVE IT!!! I've been trying to fine this song on Itunes but I didn't see it. Maybe I'll look again! But LOOVE this song...that bass line is BAD!!! lol. "Nights over Egypt..."
I'm UK-based. I heard this when I was about 16. Had to buy it, so like you did back in those days, I bought the 12" version. You had so much good jazz-funk back then. I really miss it.
This is one of my top three all time favorite songs because of the lyrics and the MUSIC !!!!!! BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!! Heard it as a child in the 80's and still LOVE IT !!!!!!
I grew up with this on the radio station and it was a much simpler time. With all the chaos going on around me now, I am at peace when I hear this. Peace and Blessings.
ay this is a bit confusing, nights' is the bomb, but not on lp pictured. lol.. the lp pictured best track is without a doubt. "YOU CAN'T HAVE MY LOVE" in the same smooht vein as nights with a tad harder kick. nights is still my 2nd fav jones girls behind "u gonna make me" that song just gets under the skin.
i heard this song, on my drive home from work. i heard it before in the past, on very RARE OCCASIONS. i have always wondered who made this song. now i know. i want to find and buy this cd. awesome song. P.S.. i was a very young lad, in the disco era. thank god, my mom & her sisters played songs similar to this around me coming up.
@tiberiusgun Why do you think? Songs like this is the reason the world never has to worry about being repopulated. Sounds a whole lot better than some "booty" song, don't it?
@tiberiusgun U aint lying, any ol school R & B dance song is addictive,i call it music crack,so addictive you just gotta keep listening to it over and over and over and its just always fresh to the ears, you just cant get enough of this, wish music this day and age had this impact, this song just spreads all the goosebumps with its tight lush productions, middle eastern asian feel and harmonizing of the Jones girls,so love this!!!!!
Not only nights over Egypt, but nights everywhere in the disco with this girls, fabulous....MORE FANTASTIC ´80´s music at my channel!!! Take a look....
Dancing under the stars at an outdoor event in the park on a hot Summer evening...absolutely amazing.. a classic piece of music....Thank goodness we have a place to find such greatness....
The jones girls are my 3rd cousins.my mom n aunt use 2 listen 2 there albums like everyday when I was little.I remember I was about 5 n we went n saw them at the michigan state fair.like 3 of there songs have been remade from faith evans 2 excape 2 incocnito!
style, class & just beautiful. these ladies were from an era when it was about the talent (voice) not about jumping up & down half naked. they didn't need to do that to keep an audience attention. this song is in a class by itself.
How did I miss this one in the 80s? I only heard this song through the Incognito cover which is excellent, especially with Jocelyn Brown on vocals. If you want music like this in the modern world then listen to Incognito, fantastic band.
I make drum and bass and this beautiful soulful music is what inspires me - I was lucky my mum pumped these tunes into my brain when I was little. This era really can't be beaten.
The first time I heard this was back in the 80's late at nite by the ocean drinking wine with some girls in Newport beach. We all got really drunk and went skinny dipping, and then listen to Steely Dan's FM, and then this tune came on the radio and it was a timeless nite. Wish i had a time machine. I didn't realize then that I would only be young once. What a blast we had that nite. This song is amazing. It almost seemed to cast a spell on us that nite. Oh the Acupulco Gold, and the wine.
The Jones Girls were another fabulous group that didnt receive enough credit for their sound, But I do go back to junior high in L.A. with this album.
@BAMA2209HEISMAN because of so many great memories friends i've lost that i grew up with loves that i had loves that i lost! DAMN I WANT TO GO BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aweaome and captivating. music like this has totally faded out of the music industry. During this time it was music from Phyllis Hyman, Luther Vandross, Melba Moore, Stephanie Mills, Teena Marie and The Commodores to name a few that was giving us precious moments that we can reflect on today. This music is timeless. Thanks for the post.
Boy is this a great song! I remember when it came out in the eighties. This is the perfect late night song. Dexter Wansel produed this song and you can hear and feel his influence all over this song. Just awesome. Great song. Oh, how I miss the eighties!
@2009Denisem This is the first time i have heard this song, but what a great song it is, i see it's from 1981 which is not surprising as that was a great year for music. I miss the 70s and the 80s,I wish I had a time machine to go back in time. The music is gone for ever, our generation was the best ever, today everyone sound the same, well I still have my neo-soul,and Jazz music.
@faye439 You can say that again! Grew up on Long Island, and in NYC and used to rush home from school to listen to all of my records while I did my homework! LOL! The late 60's, 70's and 80's were the bomb! My sisters and brothers and I would drive my mom crazy with all of our music, but she loved it too. What a time and generation we grew up in! We will never see the likes of any of these vocalists again The Jones Girls were my favorite and they backed up so many vocalists back in the day!
I miss the 80s I was in the 7th grade when this song was out.I love the Jones girls music, the sound is soothing to my ears, today music is a joke the 70s and the 80s are the best years for music,I play this song at home and in my car all the time.
