There are some great white people and some great black people and on the other hand there are bad white people and black people. I am glad that in our day and age we can all sit down together and enjoy our differant human variations.
People cry when they meet Nelson Mandela because people understand(as much as possible) what he went through. Then after all that they understand Mandela pervades humility and a warmth while many have lost such temperament under less pressure or difficult situations. People cry because he is one of the best examples in humanity in the face of some of the worst human rights violations in the worlds history. They cry because they want to be that way, and many dont know how.

i did not personally meet Mr Mandela but I stood right next to him. Everyone was cheering and shouting his name but all I could do was just stand in awe and watch. I was overcome by this man's presence, moved by his spirit that I just started crying. I couldn't help myself. I will never forget that day.
As a white south african I too got very emotional when I met Nelson Mandela who was walking down the street in Rosebank with his entourage. He was so friendly with everyone around. It still is such a wonderful memory.

It's quite easy. Those people who don't like South Africa and especially non-Africans who disapprove of the freedom enjoyed by Africans are free to pack and leave South Africa. Africans will remain with their own problems which by far have been created by Europeans pre-1994. For many years Africans were used as cheap labour and many who were eductade were deprived equal opportunities to get jobs in corporations and government departments. Thank goodness non-Africans are free to leave S Africa.
To answer the question: Ask a social psychologist. People made up as an public icon, do have that kind on common people. Icons harp on emotions. And concerning the ANC and politics in South Africa emotions and not rationality are in demand. Because nobody would support the ANC and multiculturalism, if he'd follow a rational benevolent approach.
How is one-man-one-vote, ending state-sanctioned torture and terrorsim, ending state-sanctioned break up of families, giving equal rights and education to all for the first time ever in South Africa - how are those not benevolent or rational approaches?
you have a great camera personality - it was fun to watch you speak. I bet meeting Mandela would be such an emotional experience. His lifes dedication to the cause and his experiences probably formed the energy he has today.
I've heard this before, someone told me they had their back to where Mr. Mandela entered without fanfare, and just felt something different and wonderful. He turned to see him in the room.
I believe it is the same reason why girls cried when they saw the beatles or tokyo hotel. The media painted such a wonderful picture you can't really help to be flooded with emotions to meet this so called modern day saint. I am sure some people cry when they meet bin Laden as well
I believe it is the humility and gentivity with which he portrays his sacrifice. His lack of bitterness and above all else his acknoweldegment of falibility
are you nuts, he gave up his freedom for 25 years, so that his people could be free of aparthied, you are from there, you should know that. Man if someone gave up his freedom, so that I can have a better life, i would cry and be grateful to him or her, and I would make sure that he is remember and respected. i hate to say it, but i think your a bit arrogant, and self centered to wonder why people cry when they meet Mendala. George Bush could never earn that kind of respect. He's too retarded, greedy, and corrupt to earn that kind of respect except from the religious crackpots in the rural areas. Now Mandela...That's a respectable man.
One day, a guy named Nelson Mandela was walking down the street when some random KKK member screamed "Fuck you" from the top of a building. All of a sudden, he fell off of the building and landed right on a railing, then a meteor fell down on his head and the building collapsed on top of him. Now that you have read this, your nuts will explode unless you follow these directions:

good thing i searched for the word onion before i posted my comment about how badly mandela stinks of onions. if there's an original thought out there...
He has become a figurehead for triumph over adversity, pride and quiet dignity. Crying occurs when people are emotionally overwhelmed, and seeing mandela and recognizing what he stands for is an overwhelming experience.
A vocal minority of deranged lunatics will always try to defame great statesmen like Mandela. But the majority of of the world will always know what a truly remarkable man he is. (Remember, the British called Ghandi a terrorist too.)
Nelson Mandela is a man of great courage and love. He is as great as Ghandi in his time. I could imagine myself crying if I ever had the opportunity to actually meet him.
Khaya: Might you ever imagine that you might have just such a kind of charisma that might even approach that of Nelson? I mean ... you are wellspoken and smiling and life-loving and ... well you got your own charisma, Dude ... I know you didn't spend two-thirds of your life in prison for "speaking out" but, ya never know, Ya might just yet. Just don't get assassinated in the process. There are evil people out there, Dude. Just ... keep reading ... and watching and listening and ... smiling.
Great vlog. Some people just have that light about them. You'll meet him and you'll have that camera going with your tears to show on youtube someday.
greet blog .maybe the reason everyone cries is the fact that people who have been through such hardships and struggles have a link to each and everyones soul and we therefore connect with them on a deeper level i dont know it is a good question maybe its the way your body reacts becuase of so much excitement. i love seeing the serious side of you . makes you think hey why do people cry? ok you can answer it then when you eventually come up with the answer let me know lol
People cry when they meet him because humans are weak and stupid. They attribute false changes and images to a man who is no different than you or I. He is just a man. Nothing more, nothing less. Unless you're some yogi master then any "aura" felt is nonsense and false.
You need to re-review what I said cause you obviously have little grasp of it. & don't tell me what I am or am not aware of. I never said that ppl who cry are weak. I said that ppl who cry WHEN THEY MEET MANDELLA are weak. Dont give me any of that empathy bullshit. People see others suffering/dying every day on their local news & pay no mind, why should they cry when they meet some guy whos alive & fine? It has nothing to do with empathy. It has everything to do with celebrity & idol worship.
Yes, you are 100% right! Mandela was caught red-handed, legally tried in terms of the terrorist act, found guilty and sentenced to jail. Your tears are wasted on a violent criminal.
Great story! I have been in the same room as the Dalai Lama twice and something changes when he arrives also! I went to Robben Island and felt like crying there! (I think that's different though!) Hey, I'm old enough to remember the song and T-shirts "Free Nelson Mandela!)
Nelson Mandela fought against the Apartheid-System (segregation of the races) in South Africa, spent 27 years in prison for this, got the Nobel Peace Prize, and became the first black president of South Africa.
Honestly, I think using google or wikipedia before asking a question isn't always a bad choice...
Nelson Mandela may be a "Avatar", in the sense that he has developed a very high level of consciousness/being. Some people have developed that, others haven't so much. It may be a modern myth that we live just one lifetime and instead the truth may be that we are evolving souls over many lifetimes. Nature seems to be always cycling higher and higher, so why not consciousness/soul also?
Because he's the real deal. He's been through a lot, done a lot, inspired millions, kept his core values, rose above the BS that was thrown at him. Just an awesome dude. There's not that many truly awesome human beings out there. Meeting the real thing can be a (good) shock to the system.
Maybe that's it. The shock to the system. It's weird cause, even when people know that they are going to meet him, they still cry. I would be very uncomfortable if people cried whenever they met me.
I'd say it's that -- and the fact that people have such a strong emotional connection to these distinguished people. People feel that Nelson Mandela represents this great accomplishment and embodies an achievement they all feel is theirs. (Hey Khaya, maybe when you meet the guy, you'll break down sobbing, too!)
Some people just have that effect on others -- like Mother Theresa and Pope John Paul II (when they were alive, of course). Sometimes people like to say that these people just have something powerful in their characters and overall being, an aura, so to speak, that causes this reaction.
My guess is, when you meet someone who truly is "living history", it must be just overwhelming, but, there's nothing wrong with crying when you meet people who you have maximum respect for. He defied the entire system and lived to tell about it. One man against many. That truly is awe inspiring.
stevenjenova thay had F1 there in the seventis when tom price died bad memoris lets have spar back allways a good race lets setal for footie 4 now wid SA
maybe people get challenged by the fact that Nelson Mandela has actually done something truly meaningful with his life... much more meaningful than the achievements of any hollywood celeb
I've seen people affected by this several times, but I think I am just "too laid back" to become overwhelmed by greatness or even celebrities.
Bill Clinton stayed in the hotel I worked at during his first campaign trail and everyone was so excited.
We talked to George Stephanopoulos in our bar that night. But I was having too much fun watching the Secret Service guys doing their thing. I kept wanting to ask them questions.
You're right. There's such an emotional connection between Mandela and the people of South Africa that I could only describe as pure love. I just think that the energy he has, which fills a room as he enters ... that is unique to only a few people. He has a gift and I think with his people around him it makes him powerful.
I know what you mean about the temperature changing in the room. In the late 90's, I had the chance to see Mandela speak outside at Harvard Univ.-When he came to the stage to speak, it was as if you could sense the collected feelings and emotions of the crowd at that moment. An amazing experience. Yes, there were many people there who were crying!
Say Khayav, here in the America we hear that South Africa is really coming apart and has a horrible crime problem that is only getting worse, so much so that people are feeling the country? Is this true? Have you noticed a change? Whats going on down there?
I know that's what you are hearing. If the country was falling apart, why would the economy perform as well as it is? People are just hating. That's all.
Like any country, South Africa has some crime. Like any country, some areas have higher crime rates than others. Some people in these areas are demanding that something should be done. This is the origin of the stories you are hearing. The same thing happens in America every day. In the greater New York area alone, at this very moment, there are hundreds of people demanding that something should be done about crime. Does this mean America is coming apart? No. It's great living in South Africa.
Hmm, I would be really shocked if he just walked up to me. Then Id be excited and interested, but Im not sure what I would say to him, cos the sort of questions I have are not the sort you ask on a first random meeting.
I dunno why people cry, its a shock/awe thing, I guess. I feel sorry for him, I dont think he will enjoy that sort of thing.
he smells like urine thats why they cry

Get it time. I bet Mr Mandela and your self will be see on TV together. I do not think you would cry, but I see the both of you telling jokes.

He is hysterical actually.

I know I'll cry when I meet Khayav.

Of course you will. As you should.

Has the man been checked for onions on his person? Exposed onions hidden in his pockets is how he does this. It's an old con trick.
DrLemur 4 years ago
I think I'll try that trick when eventually meet you.
khayav 4 years ago
LOL I can just imagine a big line of you tubers in New York, single-file bawling their eyes out when meeting you Khayav.
DrLemur 4 years ago
Yes, you are 100% right! Mandela was caught red-handed, legally tried in terms of the terrorist act, found guilty and sentenced to jail. Your tears are wasted on a violent criminal.
Deurikak 4 years ago
Why diss on Nelson Mandela, you must be one of them pro Aparthied KKK redneck inbred bastards.
Saleucami 4 years ago
He persevered. That is why people cry, but also SMILE when they see him. So no, their tears are not wasted.
liketelevisionsnow 4 years ago
True, that.
khayav 4 years ago
You are probably a member of the AWB.
khayav 4 years ago
I bet you didn't think Hitler was a criminal when he was released from Landsberg prison in 1924.
Randomambusher 4 years ago
I'd love to meet Nelson Mandella. Something that will sadly never happen, but in any case, I really admire him.
I'd probably fricken cry also.
kungfucolin 4 years ago
Great video. Felt like i was there.
ace1800 4 years ago
Great story! I have been in the same room as the Dalai Lama twice and something changes when he arrives also! I went to Robben Island and felt like crying there! (I think that's different though!) Hey, I'm old enough to remember the song and T-shirts "Free Nelson Mandela!)

Honestly I know this guy, I just wanted to see your reaction.. =)

You got me :)
khayav 4 years ago
wait, was he wearing a ring of onions or something around his neck? that could be why.
or maybe he just whispers horrible horrible insults to people.
nathew 4 years ago
Ha ha ha ha! Maybe he does insult them :)
khayav 4 years ago
The feeling you get from Nelson Mandela reflects the person, just like how you feel more stupid in the presence of Bush.
Saleucami 4 years ago
Ha ha ha! Good one.
khayav 4 years ago
Because people like him brings peace to the souls that hear him, scientifical evidence not needed.
Saleucami 4 years ago
Sorry for this answer, but who the f*ck is Nelson Mandela?
dimiltergo 4 years ago
Nelson Mandela fought against the Apartheid-System (segregation of the races) in South Africa, spent 27 years in prison for this, got the Nobel Peace Prize, and became the first black president of South Africa.
Honestly, I think using google or wikipedia before asking a question isn't always a bad choice...

Do you have any idea how embarrassing the question you just asked is? Perhaps you need to make google your friend :)

He is such a courageous man, & has been subjected to some really horrible things, for the cause, & still lives to tell his story.
I would cry, if I met him. What a strong person.
Peace,
Teresa

Nelson Mandela may be a "Avatar", in the sense that he has developed a very high level of consciousness/being. Some people have developed that, others haven't so much. It may be a modern myth that we live just one lifetime and instead the truth may be that we are evolving souls over many lifetimes. Nature seems to be always cycling higher and higher, so why not consciousness/soul also?
SatwaDude 4 years ago
You're making me blush. *blush*
khayav 4 years ago
Because he's the real deal. He's been through a lot, done a lot, inspired millions, kept his core values, rose above the BS that was thrown at him. Just an awesome dude. There's not that many truly awesome human beings out there. Meeting the real thing can be a (good) shock to the system.
elmolincoln 4 years ago
Maybe that's it. The shock to the system. It's weird cause, even when people know that they are going to meet him, they still cry. I would be very uncomfortable if people cried whenever they met me.

I dig that man. He is a great soul.
khayav 4 years ago
(2nd part of my post, lol)
I'd say it's that -- and the fact that people have such a strong emotional connection to these distinguished people. People feel that Nelson Mandela represents this great accomplishment and embodies an achievement they all feel is theirs. (Hey Khaya, maybe when you meet the guy, you'll break down sobbing, too!)
BlossomingViolet 4 years ago
Nah, boys don't cry :)
khayav 4 years ago
Some people just have that effect on others -- like Mother Theresa and Pope John Paul II (when they were alive, of course). Sometimes people like to say that these people just have something powerful in their characters and overall being, an aura, so to speak, that causes this reaction.
BlossomingViolet 4 years ago
Psssht! You dont' have any friends...
iAlta 4 years ago
My guess is, when you meet someone who truly is "living history", it must be just overwhelming, but, there's nothing wrong with crying when you meet people who you have maximum respect for. He defied the entire system and lived to tell about it. One man against many. That truly is awe inspiring.
1usadefender 4 years ago
You've said it well.

I cried watching him on TV once. He's an amazing orator, and really... it's like meeting Gandhi or MLK Jr.
calicatty123 4 years ago
...or the Dali Lama. There are just certain people who are on a whole other level of existence.
D4Shawn 4 years ago
Probably, it must have been the same for Gandhi and MLK.

LOL We call that "presence", Khaya.
I kept wanting to ask them questions.
j0eg0d 4 years ago
But I think for him it goes beyond presence.
khayav 4 years ago
You're right. There's such an emotional connection between Mandela and the people of South Africa that I could only describe as pure love. I just think that the energy he has, which fills a room as he enters ... that is unique to only a few people. He has a gift and I think with his people around him it makes him powerful.
j0eg0d 4 years ago
Gawd, comparing Bill Clinton to Nelson Mandela?
No Comparison.
SatwaDude 4 years ago
Lol, ditto, no comparison, Bill had an affair with Monica, he would have an aura of lewdness.
Saleucami 4 years ago
I made a comparison ? It was unintentional. Khaya probably remembers how I really feel about Clinton LOL
I agree with you there is no comparison; to Mandela or to the love, the South African people have for him.
I wish the United States was MORE of a nation with people celebrating individuals like Nelson Mandela.
Unfortunately America is MORE of a country that celebrates wealth, beautiful people and fame.
j0eg0d 4 years ago
*shrug*
Never knew people cried when they met him.

Stoink99 4 years ago
I know what you mean about the temperature changing in the room. In the late 90's, I had the chance to see Mandela speak outside at Harvard Univ.-When he came to the stage to speak, it was as if you could sense the collected feelings and emotions of the crowd at that moment. An amazing experience. Yes, there were many people there who were crying!

Say Khayav, here in the America we hear that South Africa is really coming apart and has a horrible crime problem that is only getting worse, so much so that people are feeling the country? Is this true? Have you noticed a change? Whats going on down there?
Newpagan11 4 years ago
I know that's what you are hearing. If the country was falling apart, why would the economy perform as well as it is? People are just hating. That's all.
khayav 4 years ago
Like any country, South Africa has some crime. Like any country, some areas have higher crime rates than others. Some people in these areas are demanding that something should be done. This is the origin of the stories you are hearing. The same thing happens in America every day. In the greater New York area alone, at this very moment, there are hundreds of people demanding that something should be done about crime. Does this mean America is coming apart? No. It's great living in South Africa.
Shrog1 4 years ago
Did the temperature in the room go up or down?
DRW82 4 years ago
It seemed to get a little warmer.
khayav 4 years ago
Hmm, I would be really shocked if he just walked up to me. Then Id be excited and interested, but Im not sure what I would say to him, cos the sort of questions I have are not the sort you ask on a first random meeting.
I dunno why people cry, its a shock/awe thing, I guess. I feel sorry for him, I dont think he will enjoy that sort of thing.
nes018 4 years ago
I don't think so either. I'm sure it's a tad bit disturbing.
khayav 4 years ago
Maybe they cried because deep down they know, they've met someone great who has made a significant change to society within their lifetime.
stargateforever 4 years ago
Probably correct.
khayav 4 years ago
khaya, you should run for president!
abc7536 4 years ago
