  • I too was near Nelson Mandela. It happened on an airport tarmac.

  • Its all about freedom. People who desire freedom and have connected to the spirit of freedom see that in him.

  • People would cry when they met him because he was imprisoned for 30 years by whites, and came out loving every single person he met.

  • @cjbirk he came out empty basically. these days he is wheeled from continent to continent like a museum statue.they need to love him the hell alone.

  • Hey man you been smoking too much zol. You're not making sense. Eish

  • Mr mandella is an amazing man i am so glad he was determined and focused on changing the ways for black people. I apsolutely love black people and i believe it is not our genetic attributes which divide us but what kind of person we are. There are some great white people and some great black people and on the other hand there are bad white people and black people. I am glad that in our day and age we can all sit down together and enjoy our differant human variations.

  • Obviously you don't know who he is.

  • People cry when they meet Nelson Mandela because people understand(as much as possible) what he went through. Then after all that they understand Mandela pervades humility and a warmth while many have lost such temperament under less pressure or difficult situations. People cry because he is one of the best examples in humanity in the face of some of the worst human rights violations in the worlds history. They cry because they want to be that way, and many dont know how.

  • @Bradwin84 aaahhh shut up! blah blah blah mandela blah blah cry cry cry, blah blah, humility blah blah.

  • @Bradwin84 i respect people who have been though more or the same kind of stuff ive been throught and nelson did good things but he doesnt know what struggle is like me and lots of people i know. and he never will

  • @Bradwin84 creature from the depths of hell, so you percive odour with your eyes? Sure it was not the smell from ur master satan still lingering from the hole u crawled from?

  • Why Do People Cry When They Meet Nelson Mandela?

'Cuz he's one of the greatest human beings to have ever lived.

  • @Gewondvijver not even close man sorry hes nothing compared to me and others i know who have been beaten as kids and cut with knives and tortured for years and didnt end up in prison. our will and strength is that of greek gods themselves.

  • And Handsome please post more videos? I want to hear you speak more about Nelson Mandela. Peace, Mia

  • Can I just say how absolutely, gorgeous and shiny you are? You have that beauty that you just know you were made in the image of the Most High! Wow I was fascinated with every word you said and carried away with your vibe and your face omg You have even an appeal of sexiness that Michael Jackson has (had). he lives on with LOVE now really living. I 2 would b honored to meet Nelson Mandela. He too shines in Love. You make me want to come to Africa it must be breathtaking for now Im in Babylon USA

  • i did not personally meet Mr Mandela but I stood right next to him. Everyone was cheering and shouting his name but all I could do was just stand in awe and watch. I was overcome by this man's presence, moved by his spirit that I just started crying. I couldn't help myself. I will never forget that day.

  • lol funny how racists watch these videos even though they "hate black people", I hope all you racists die a very stupid and painful way

  • As a white south african I too got very emotional when I met Nelson Mandela who was walking down the street in Rosebank with his entourage. He was so friendly with everyone around. It still is such a wonderful memory.

  • hey your videos awsome, i would love to meet him one day

  • ill laugh when YOU will cimmit suicide

  • Its just wise to shut your mouth sometimes

  • most of those who passed stupid comments are british.they show the ignorance of there leaders, blare and brown.

  • ESTUPIDO IGNORANTE

  • i am willing to bet that you do t know jack shit about mandela. so stfu taco

  • haber, haber por favor escribe bien lo que tratas de decir por que no puedo adivinar las palabras que no sabes escribir, puedes pedir ayuda a algun adulto, si niñito ?? por que creo ke apenas vas a entrar a la primaria no es asi ?

  • I'm willing to bet that he knows more about Mandela than you do, you red neck piece of shit. Go Shoot some guns.

  • It's quite easy. Those people who don't like South Africa and especially non-Africans who disapprove of the freedom enjoyed by Africans are free to pack and leave South Africa. Africans will remain with their own problems which by far have been created by Europeans pre-1994. For many years Africans were used as cheap labour and many who were eductade were deprived equal opportunities to get jobs in corporations and government departments. Thank goodness non-Africans are free to leave S Africa.

  • id cry if i would meet khayav. or laugh.

    xD

  • I would cry if I met George W Bush

  • i would pass out foaming at the mouth if i met him, every last one of the founding fathers bare a grudge towards that bastard

  • To answer the question: Ask a social psychologist. People made up as an public icon, do have that kind on common people. Icons harp on emotions. And concerning the ANC and politics in South Africa emotions and not rationality are in demand. Because nobody would support the ANC and multiculturalism, if he'd follow a rational benevolent approach.

  • How is one-man-one-vote, ending state-sanctioned torture and terrorsim, ending state-sanctioned break up of families, giving equal rights and education to all for the first time ever in South Africa - how are those not benevolent or rational approaches?

  • uncle toms have that effect on people I've seen it before where the psychology takes over when reality dissapoints

  • i wud also cry if i was to meet him.

  • you have a great camera personality - it was fun to watch you speak. I bet meeting Mandela would be such an emotional experience. His lifes dedication to the cause and his experiences probably formed the energy he has today.

  • mandela is like Jusus reallife jesus

  • Your Uncle presided over the wedding?!! You're kidding right??

  • I've heard this before, someone told me they had their back to where Mr. Mandela entered without fanfare, and just felt something different and wonderful. He turned to see him in the room.

  • I believe it is the same reason why girls cried when they saw the beatles or tokyo hotel. The media painted such a wonderful picture you can't really help to be flooded with emotions to meet this so called modern day saint. I am sure some people cry when they meet bin Laden as well

  • Get a stand for your cam.

  • he gave up his freedom for 27 years actually

  • more taken away from him than him giving it up.

  • I believe it is the humility and gentivity with which he portrays his sacrifice. His lack of bitterness and above all else his acknoweldegment of falibility

  • are you nuts, he gave up his freedom for 25 years, so that his people could be free of aparthied, you are from there, you should know that. Man if someone gave up his freedom, so that I can have a better life, i would cry and be grateful to him or her, and I would make sure that he is remember and respected. i hate to say it, but i think your a bit arrogant, and self centered to wonder why people cry when they meet Mendala. G

  • the lacrymal effect is triggered by his voice and what people associate him with in their minds..hence the emotional outburst.

  • It's so rare to meet a famous person who not only meets, but exceeds your expectations in real life. Mandela is clearly one of these special few. Great video.

  • Black Eyed Peas met Nelson Mandela and cried? Hahaha, I would've loved to see their faces!

  • you have beautiful eyes...LOL they're really quite stunning. sorry...bit jealous here LOL my eyes are green...damn red hair/green eyes thing...grrr! lol

  • what is occuring every body hahaha i love it and i love listening tyou =D

  • George Bush could never earn that kind of respect. He's too retarded, greedy, and corrupt to earn that kind of respect except from the religious crackpots in the rural areas. Now Mandela...That's a respectable man.

  • It looks like you have cigarettes and a urine sample on the table behind you =P

  • at the end of your vlog, i was waiting for nelson mandela to walk into the frame and you to burst into tears. ;)

  • Maybe his bodyguards secretly chop onions nearby whenever he starts to introduce himself to someone?

  • Really funny,

  • The temperature drop you experienced is a very real thing. It happens with the release of emotional energy. It is a common experience in spellcasting.

  • I have fallen in (a non-stalker way)love with you, khayav. I shall subscribe.

  • I wanna say that I wouldnt cry, but Im getting teary eyed just thinking about it. I mean come on, its freaking Nelson Mandela! I need a tissue...

  • Because he suffered for the people to make a difference in the world.

  • mandela has a mixed history for sure..

  • Because he represents the suffering in most people's lives.

  • valid question...

  • good thing i searched for the word onion before i posted my comment about how badly mandela stinks of onions. if there's an original thought out there...

  • He has become a figurehead for triumph over adversity, pride and quiet dignity. Crying occurs when people are emotionally overwhelmed, and seeing mandela and recognizing what he stands for is an overwhelming experience.

  • your teeth are blinding me

  • A vocal minority of deranged lunatics will always try to defame great statesmen like Mandela. But the majority of of the world will always know what a truly remarkable man he is. (Remember, the British called Ghandi a terrorist too.)

  • Nelson Mandela is a man of great courage and love. He is as great as Ghandi in his time. I could imagine myself crying if I ever had the opportunity to actually meet him.

  • Still watching the video, but I think I just heard you say "It's weird. It's f***ing weird"

  • Khaya: Might you ever imagine that you might have just such a kind of charisma that might even approach that of Nelson? I mean ... you are wellspoken and smiling and life-loving and ... well you got your own charisma, Dude ... I know you didn't spend two-thirds of your life in prison for "speaking out" but, ya never know, Ya might just yet. Just don't get assassinated in the process. There are evil people out there, Dude. Just ... keep reading ... and watching and listening and ... smiling.

  • I cried when I met Pope John II and I'm not even Christian. Great men have great auras. Powerful stuff.

  • Great vlog. Some people just have that light about them. You'll meet him and you'll have that camera going with your tears to show on youtube someday.

  • Nice one. thanks for making it.

  • hey khaya

greet blog .maybe the reason everyone cries is the fact that people who have been through such hardships and struggles have a link to each and everyones soul and we therefore connect with them on a deeper level i dont know it is a good question maybe its the way your body reacts becuase of so much excitement. i love seeing the serious side of you . makes you think hey why do people cry? ok you can answer it then when you eventually come up with the answer let me know lol

  • People cry when they meet him because humans are weak and stupid. They attribute false changes and images to a man who is no different than you or I. He is just a man. Nothing more, nothing less. Unless you're some yogi master then any "aura" felt is nonsense and false.

  • The old everyone's stupid but you theory. Gotcha.

  • I said "humans" are stupid. That would INCLUDE me you dumbass. Lord, you just proved my point.

  • Just because you are stupid doesn't mean everyone is, there are just some problems you can't solve but others could, that's why you ask.

  • You obviously misundertand what I'm getting at here.

  • Saleucami: I have been reading your posts for quite a while and you are definitely the last person which should be calling other people stupid!

  • OMG a stalker, everyone has opinions and the right to have fun.

  • People cry because they have empathy not because their weak and stupid. It takes a strength that your unaware of of, or lack, to cry.

  • You need to re-review what I said cause you obviously have little grasp of it. & don't tell me what I am or am not aware of. I never said that ppl who cry are weak. I said that ppl who cry WHEN THEY MEET MANDELLA are weak. Dont give me any of that empathy bullshit. People see others suffering/dying every day on their local news & pay no mind, why should they cry when they meet some guy whos alive & fine? It has nothing to do with empathy. It has everything to do with celebrity & idol worship.

  • I love Nelson Mandela and he is amazing but I kind of agree with you.

  • your teeth are sooooooo white

  • It's the light!

  • Lol so random Khayav.

  • :-)

  • Get it time. I bet Mr Mandela and your self will be see on TV together. I do not think you would cry, but I see the both of you telling jokes.

  • He is hysterical actually.

  • I know I'll cry when I meet Khayav.

  • Of course you will. As you should.

  • Has the man been checked for onions on his person? Exposed onions hidden in his pockets is how he does this. It's an old con trick.

  • I think I'll try that trick when eventually meet you.

  • LOL I can just imagine a big line of you tubers in New York, single-file bawling their eyes out when meeting you Khayav.

  • Yes, you are 100% right! Mandela was caught red-handed, legally tried in terms of the terrorist act, found guilty and sentenced to jail. Your tears are wasted on a violent criminal.

  • Why diss on Nelson Mandela, you must be one of them pro Aparthied KKK redneck inbred bastards.

  • He persevered. That is why people cry, but also SMILE when they see him. So no, their tears are not wasted.

  • True, that.

  • You are probably a member of the AWB.

  • I bet you didn't think Hitler was a criminal when he was released from Landsberg prison in 1924.

  • I'd love to meet Nelson Mandella. Something that will sadly never happen, but in any case, I really admire him.

    I'd probably fricken cry also.

  • Great video. Felt like i was there.

  • Great story! I have been in the same room as the Dalai Lama twice and something changes when he arrives also! I went to Robben Island and felt like crying there! (I think that's different though!) Hey, I'm old enough to remember the song and T-shirts "Free Nelson Mandela!)

  • Honestly I know this guy, I just wanted to see your reaction.. =)

  • You got me :)

  • wait, was he wearing a ring of onions or something around his neck? that could be why.

or maybe he just whispers horrible horrible insults to people.

  • Ha ha ha ha! Maybe he does insult them :)

  • The feeling you get from Nelson Mandela reflects the person, just like how you feel more stupid in the presence of Bush.

  • Ha ha ha! Good one.

  • Because people like him brings peace to the souls that hear him, scientifical evidence not needed.

  • Sorry for this answer, but who the f*ck is Nelson Mandela?

  • Nelson Mandela fought against the Apartheid-System (segregation of the races) in South Africa, spent 27 years in prison for this, got the Nobel Peace Prize, and became the first black president of South Africa.

Honestly, I think using google or wikipedia before asking a question isn't always a bad choice...

  • thanks for info...

  • Do you have any idea how embarrassing the question you just asked is? Perhaps you need to make google your friend :)

  • hes the cousin of willy nelson the country music singer.

  • That was a very cool and interesting vlog...thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  • Good to cya again mate.

Nice beard you have going there.... :-)

Out of interest, what do you do for a 'Day Job'?

    Cheers,

    Sam,

  • He is such a courageous man, & has been subjected to some really horrible things, for the cause, & still lives to tell his story.

I would cry, if I met him. What a strong person.

    Peace,

    Teresa

  • I'd give you klinnex.

  • See ya in NYC, babe! *wink*

  • Nelson Mandela may be a "Avatar", in the sense that he has developed a very high level of consciousness/being. Some people have developed that, others haven't so much. It may be a modern myth that we live just one lifetime and instead the truth may be that we are evolving souls over many lifetimes. Nature seems to be always cycling higher and higher, so why not consciousness/soul also?

  • You're making me blush. *blush*

  • Because he's the real deal. He's been through a lot, done a lot, inspired millions, kept his core values, rose above the BS that was thrown at him. Just an awesome dude. There's not that many truly awesome human beings out there. Meeting the real thing can be a (good) shock to the system.

  • Maybe that's it. The shock to the system. It's weird cause, even when people know that they are going to meet him, they still cry. I would be very uncomfortable if people cried whenever they met me.

  • Awesome video khayav!

  • Thanks Shawn.

  • You could read the sincerity in your eyes.

  • I dig that man. He is a great soul.

  • (2nd part of my post, lol)

I'd say it's that -- and the fact that people have such a strong emotional connection to these distinguished people. People feel that Nelson Mandela represents this great accomplishment and embodies an achievement they all feel is theirs. (Hey Khaya, maybe when you meet the guy, you'll break down sobbing, too!)

  • Nah, boys don't cry :)

  • Some people just have that effect on others -- like Mother Theresa and Pope John Paul II (when they were alive, of course). Sometimes people like to say that these people just have something powerful in their characters and overall being, an aura, so to speak, that causes this reaction.

  • Psssht! You dont' have any friends...

  • My guess is, when you meet someone who truly is "living history", it must be just overwhelming, but, there's nothing wrong with crying when you meet people who you have maximum respect for. He defied the entire system and lived to tell about it. One man against many. That truly is awe inspiring.

  • You've said it well.

  • i would totally bang nelson

  • Ha ha ha ha ha ha! You're silly!

  • You'll have to tell us if YOU cry if / when you Meet him.

  • :-)

  • I cried watching him on TV once. He's an amazing orator, and really... it's like meeting Gandhi or MLK Jr.

  • ...or the Dali Lama. There are just certain people who are on a whole other level of existence.

  • Probably, it must have been the same for Gandhi and MLK.

  • stevenjenova thay had F1 there in the seventis when tom price died bad memoris lets have spar back allways a good race lets setal for footie 4 now wid SA

  • maybe people get challenged by the fact that Nelson Mandela has actually done something truly meaningful with his life... much more meaningful than the achievements of any hollywood celeb

  • True. True.

  • haha

  • LOL We call that "presence", Khaya.

I've seen people affected by this several times, but I think I am just "too laid back" to become overwhelmed by greatness or even celebrities.

Bill Clinton stayed in the hotel I worked at during his first campaign trail and everyone was so excited.

We talked to George Stephanopoulos in our bar that night. But I was having too much fun watching the Secret Service guys doing their thing. I kept wanting to ask them questions.

  • But I think for him it goes beyond presence.

  • You're right. There's such an emotional connection between Mandela and the people of South Africa that I could only describe as pure love. I just think that the energy he has, which fills a room as he enters ... that is unique to only a few people. He has a gift and I think with his people around him it makes him powerful.

  • Gawd, comparing Bill Clinton to Nelson Mandela?

    No Comparison.

  • Lol, ditto, no comparison, Bill had an affair with Monica, he would have an aura of lewdness.

  • I made a comparison ? It was unintentional. Khaya probably remembers how I really feel about Clinton LOL

I agree with you there is no comparison; to Mandela or to the love, the South African people have for him.

I wish the United States was MORE of a nation with people celebrating individuals like Nelson Mandela.

Unfortunately America is MORE of a country that celebrates wealth, beautiful people and fame.

  • *shrug*

Never knew people cried when they met him.

  • They need to put that monkey back in jail.

  • not a very cool thing to say dude.

  • (this was my reply to thetruthsquared's comment)

  • I know what you mean about the temperature changing in the room. In the late 90's, I had the chance to see Mandela speak outside at Harvard Univ.-When he came to the stage to speak, it was as if you could sense the collected feelings and emotions of the crowd at that moment. An amazing experience. Yes, there were many people there who were crying!

  • Ha ha ha ha!

  • Say Khayav, here in the America we hear that South Africa is really coming apart and has a horrible crime problem that is only getting worse, so much so that people are feeling the country? Is this true? Have you noticed a change? Whats going on down there?

  • I know that's what you are hearing. If the country was falling apart, why would the economy perform as well as it is? People are just hating. That's all.

  • Like any country, South Africa has some crime. Like any country, some areas have higher crime rates than others. Some people in these areas are demanding that something should be done. This is the origin of the stories you are hearing. The same thing happens in America every day. In the greater New York area alone, at this very moment, there are hundreds of people demanding that something should be done about crime. Does this mean America is coming apart? No. It's great living in South Africa.

  • Did the temperature in the room go up or down?

  • It seemed to get a little warmer.

  • Hmm, I would be really shocked if he just walked up to me. Then Id be excited and interested, but Im not sure what I would say to him, cos the sort of questions I have are not the sort you ask on a first random meeting.

I dunno why people cry, its a shock/awe thing, I guess. I feel sorry for him, I dont think he will enjoy that sort of thing.

  • I don't think so either. I'm sure it's a tad bit disturbing.

  • Maybe they cried because deep down they know, they've met someone great who has made a significant change to society within their lifetime.

  • Probably correct.

  • khaya, you should run for president!

  • Very few people usually like a president. And even those that do want to kill the president ^_^
