I was listening to this from another room, and honestly didn't realize it wasn't Nick Drake singing--you're totally amazing, and personally, although I like your version of "Parasite" and think the video you made for it is EXCELLENT, I truly LOVE how impeccably you arrange and perform what I consider your tributes to my other "rare, rare find," Nick Drake.
The highest compliment I can give you is that "You're a rare, rare find--a troubled cure, for a troubled mind." You have captured every nuance of his hauntingly beautiful voice, and every note of the orchestration is spot on. So very impressed.

This is probably the best cover I have ever heard of such a complex song. You did a fantastic job with this hauntingly beautiful composition. The guitar, vocals and instrumental arrangements are exceptionally accurate. Well done!
Very good cover ,i've been trying to play that number since many years : can you tell me the guitar open tuning for this song thanks a lot (excuse my bad english , i'm a french frog eater!!!! )
This is absurd. Why have I never heard of you before? Should I have? Do you have recordings out there? If not, why not? This is the best thing on YouTube. This is absolutely first-rate. I hope to God you're doing this for a living, and not cranking out code in some cubicle somewhere. You've got a great voice and good looks, and this is damn sexy stuff.
Simply brilliant. You've completely captured it, from the soulful lyrics to the tender guitar and lush orchestration... possibly the best cover on YouTube!
I used to love how much you sounded like Nick Drake, but the more I listen, the more I love how you DON'T sound like him. You have a wonderful gift, not just for imitation, and not just for sensitive respect...but for making the movement both his and yet your own as well. Lovely...simply lovely. And THANK YOU!
ah! now i have my answer, tuning wise,i love the guitar on this version.... robert kirbys recordings were 1st done guitar& voice only, and are my favourite versions, compare river man on made to love magic, and of course pink moon tells us what nick thought of it,above all these quibbles(love that word)seeing how these songs are played helps those of us just learning, to realize &spread a very powerful love...unsy
This sounds very good! Very professional sound. I'd love to know what you used for the orchestration? Samples triggered by a midi controller? Its a very good quality realistic sound.
This is a very faithful cover and very well done. I like the extra instruments, but I think they should be turned down a bit; they are overpowering at parts.
wow, this is great! I suck at finger picking! but your guitar playing sounds just like Nick's! Also, is this tuned in BBDGBe? Im sure it is - but just checking.
dont get me wrong im not denying that its good im just saying that its better to put your own spin on things than co them note for note thats all, a bit more original, vary the arrangment or something and i wouldnt ask if he had any of his own tunes if i didint think he was good would i.
this isnt a live recording though is it its a studio version exactly the same as the record and if you had a choice what would you rather listen to an immitation or the real thing?
I agree to a certain extent that sometimes covers are better with a bit of originality, but especially in these cases where there are no footage of Nick playing his music I think it is great to be able to watch someone else play to such a high quality, I can play a fair few of Nick's songs but with only a few can I sing along and I cannot play them to such an excellent quality...
with you there. i too questioned the merits of these covers, but as a fan of Nick and a guitar player myself I'm intrigued by this. as you say, there is no footage of Nick playing, and though some covers are good there is always something awry with the tuning/picking/phrasing etc. people should stop getting so precious over Nick. he was a great musician and songwriter, but as this guy proves, no enigma.
i hate note for note covers. but this is alot more this is an amazing musician producing phenomenal music. this guy is a genius to capture the vocal and instrumental phrazing of nick drake. the only reason we all hate covers is that there are so many poor attempts out there even when they play note for note. anyone who writes anything negative about this dudes nick drake covers has very limited understanding of what msic is all about
his voice is nowhere near as good as Nicks and theres absolutly no point in doing something like this, its like saying you wish you were him, and a person who believes that this type of thing is the next best to Nick Drake knows nothing about "msic"
Thanks for your positive comments.Yes,everything you hear on this vid was played by me,including the guitar.I played the strings and woodwinds on my keyboard using plugins.
The string is great!! maybe too loud in the mix here. the singin i think is sometimes very personal and good overall. The guitar perfect. This song is so so so great.. THANKS
Thanks for subscribing.Yes,they're plugins,I'm always pleased when someone asks if the orchestral sounds are synth/plugins or live players because I do try to make them close to human sounding, especially on this track.
Any particular ones you would recommend? I record music myself and I am always looking for some nice sounding software instruments... at least while I learn violin in my spare time :)
What you're hearing on this one is mostly the EastWest SO which is probably the best value of the options out there...of course if you have the resources the full VSL is great but it's absurdly expensive.
It's not often that you find a good cover on youtube, but this, my friend, really is impressive. Thanks again for all your positive comments.Yeah, this one was fairly labor intensive, not just picking out the correct notes but getting them to sound something like a bunch of humans playing in a room rather than me playing each part on my keyboard. The credit for the original arrangement actually goes to Robert Kirby,an old college friend of Nicks who did all the arrangements(except Riverman)for his albums

Wow, I never knew that about Robert Kirby.
Whoever did the score for Riverman was very gifted as well.
That's the huge advantage of technology today.
You can simply push a couple of buttons and you have the arrangement all in front of you.
Not like in the day when you had the whole orchestra on payroll.
